25.01.2022 Well that’s a wrap for #DementiaActionWeek2020! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the chance to listen to each and every story about living with dementia this week. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, and most of all we’ve learned a little more about what it’s like to live with dementia, which is the first step towards enabling a more dementia friendly community. Thank you very much for sharing your stories with us. Do you have a story to share? 23.01.2022 Digging deep for Dementia Amazing news for our community with the NSW Government investing $5 million to build a village specifically designed for peop...le living with Dementia. This village models a world-first Dutch Facility and is the first of its kind throughout Regional NSW. Port Macquarie has one of the highest prevalence rates of dementia in NSW and this will offer transformational care for our elderly. There will be no wards in the Emmaus Memory Support Village, which will instead have the appearance of a regular suburb, with shops and cafes which will be staffed by carers. St Agnes' Care & Lifestyle has been given the green light from Council and works are expected to commence later this year

20.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK - www.naidoc.org.au We are proud to be sharing in the spirit of this year's NAIDOC Week celebrations as we embrace the expansive history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists.... NAIDOC 2020 celebrates and recognises the fact that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years. Always Was, Always Will Be.
18.01.2022 "If we don't look after the carer, who looks after the patient?" Kath Storey provides much needed support to carers living on the Mid North Coast. I spoke to Kath, and past carers Brian, Pam and Brian B about supporting fellow carers and how we can become a more dementia friendly community here in Port Macquarie. Local businesses, there's some great tips in here for you too!... Do you have a story to share? Would you like to come along to the carers catch ups? Perhaps you would like some information on making your local business more dementia friendly? 15.01.2022 Our local member of parliament, Leslie Williams, is the patron of our Dementia Friendly Alliance here in Port Macquarie. I spoke with her today to find out what being a dementia friendly community means to her. This week we've heard from people living with dementia, plus people that care for those living with dementia, and the common thread through each and every story, is that you're not alone. A little patience and support makes a big difference. Our new Dementia Friendly ...Port Macquarie website, www.dementiafriendlypmq.com.au has local support contact details, and the 24 hour national dementia helpline 1800 100 500 and website, dementia.org.au is a great reference for any information you may need. Send us a message if you'd like to share your story, which will help our community understand and be patient with people living with dementia. Just like Leslie says, everyone deserves a fair go #DementiaFriendlyCommunity #PortMacquarie #MidNorthCoast
