23.01.2022 I remember a book like this years ago that I would give each carer to support their journey. Great to see this new free downloadable version. You can also order a printed version. Thanks Carers WA for sharing and Dementia Australia for developing this.

23.01.2022 Some great examples of ways to stay connected during these times. Well done Clarence Estate. Thanks for the great story Albany Advertiser.

22.01.2022 Albany based respite

22.01.2022 Thankyou Marlane for this heartwarming although sad blog. Hugs at Hawthorn House are second nature. I can feel how tricky it must be to have to withhold this special touch. Something people living with dementia appreciate for all sorts of reasons. https://www.marlaneainsworth.com/post/pandemic-tears

22.01.2022 These cannula sleeves are great for those in hospital who have an "IV drip" and feeling agitated. Out of sight and other things to fiddle with. They have been knitted by volunteers at the Albany hospital ready for patients on the ward and in ED.

21.01.2022 As we all adjust to alternative ways of connecting during this time of COVID-19, I am also aware that not everyone will be at ease with using modern technology. This is where Sarah's new business, based in Albany, will come into play. Sarah will support people in their homes to set up their devices. She will also assist with navigating essential websites such as My Aged Care and My Gov. Contact Sarah to discuss your needs: [email protected] or 0474 317 545

20.01.2022 This story touched my heart with my Dutch background. Jason and his family is maintaining his Oma's identity through the experiences he is able to offer her. Just beautiful More videos can be found at https://www.facebook.com/omasapplesauce/

20.01.2022 Its one of the biggest issues faced for many people becoming older or living with a dementia that is progressing. Telling a person they cannot drive anymore will not usually result in the person agreeing. In the country its a large part of their independence and routine. Check out some ideas from this article. Share your questions or tips that have worked.

19.01.2022 A beautiful poem to help us remember the importance of just being present for someone in the later stages of dementia

19.01.2022 This is super cool! A radio station that you can listen to anytime that targets your age-group. Just pop in when you were born and enjoy music for reminiscing

17.01.2022 Some great tips on how to keep someone safe and more orientated in their home. Thanks Alzheimer's WA

13.01.2022 This is a lovely one

13.01.2022 During times of stress we often hold our breath without even realizing it. My 13 year old son often reminds us to take a deep breath and start again. There are so many times in a day when a few deep breaths can go a long way in calming a situation, allowing us to think more clearly and respond rather than react. Love this little technique to help a younger person. And hopefully all your efforts will be repaid when they remind us to breathe when they are older.

12.01.2022 For all the amazing women taking on caring roles, often sacrificing other parts of their lives. Parts maybe, that they always imagined doing at this time of their life. You have my utmost respect.

12.01.2022 Although this is more directed towards alternatives in America, I wonder about our community needing the right people with the right skills to be available to respond to various incidents in a timely and effective manner. Taking the pressure off the police, who may not all have those skills. One that hasnt been mentioned below is supporting an older person who has dementia or delirium and being able to call on a person who will know the best way to respond. We do have a 24 hr helpline to support families, hospital staff and residential care facilities who will provide over the phone advice and support. They can be contacted on 1800 699 799 or check out their website. https://dementia.com.au/

10.01.2022 This article highlights the need for contrasting colours to assist people living with dementia who often have issues with visual perception. One way of changing the environment to support increased independence and wellbeing.

08.01.2022 My take on this is similar. My experience and wisdom from others is that often the person does know the person has passed on (maybe subconsciously) so it's best not to outright say they are still alive. The message often is about connection for the person living with dementia. Connecting with someone who is familiar and, who they feel safe and secure with. An excellent opportunity for reminiscing good times and firing those brain pathways. Can open up lots of extra communication.

08.01.2022 I often get asked what are the early signs and symptoms of Alzheimers. This page also decribes what are the normal age related changes we might notice. There are many benefits of getting an early diagnosis, or even just finding out if the changes are something that are caused by another illness that can be treated. There are many conditions that can look like dementia - even as simple as a vitamin deficiency. https://www.alz.org/alzheimers-dementia/10_signs

04.01.2022 Some wise advice and ideas for friends and families of those who are taking on the challenge of caring for someone with dementia.

02.01.2022 Reversing of Alzheimer's - research in Australia. Looking at 5-10 years. How amazing would it be to see this in my lifetime and be out of a job My wish for those who live with this disease

01.01.2022 The best advise comes from those who are or have lived with the experience of caring. . Such an amazing effort and often sacrifice.
