25.01.2022 Soooooo.... I tried to walk out of the supermarket today with this handful of food. But they stopped me, apparently you have to pay for these physical items. ...I said but we’re friends, surely I can have the bread for free? apparently not. Mates rates? They said no. I let them know that I am on a tight budget at the moment, so asked if I could get a discount? Apparently not. I offered them some fitness classes in exchange, they already had a gym membership. They refused the lemons fresh from the tree too. I let them know that I’m just new to shopping, so maybe they could let me take them for free this time, so I can expand my knowledge. I offered them a coffee in exchange, they said no that won’t pay for the materials needed to make the products. Ok, so if I’m honest, I didn’t really try and walk out with them. They were paid for and direct from my pantry. But I really wanted to find a way to highlight what business owners face on a daily basis. And you could replace this with any number of other businesses, what about a major department store or a clothing store like Just Jeans or Lorna Jane? Would you walk out with their clothes without paying? If you are an employee earning an hourly wage, no one questions you. No one says you earn too much per hour. No one tells you they refuse to pay for your service. No one questions your worth or asks you to drop your hourly rate (fair work would be on their doorstep I’m sure if they did!). When we go into a supermarket, we don’t barter them, ask them for mates rates on our trolley load or a discount. Yes we may shop around still and find the price that best suits our budget, but we accept the price on the shelf. So much goes into the pricing of a product or service. And very rarely when I delve deeper have I seen something completely overpriced. While a product can be a little more easy to understand the price. Services are harder, you are not just paying for an hour of someone’s time - you are also paying for knowledge, skills, experience and potentially years of study too. And then there things like rent, wages, utilities, freight, travel etc. so many layers!! When you pay a small business appropriately you: - help to create new jobs (one of which may be yours one day!). - help an owner buy from another small business, creating a circular local economy. - Help a business sponsor your child’s or your local sporting club. Or support a charity. - Help a business innovate to future proof jobs for our next generation. - Help an owner buy and support their families directly - feeding their kids, clothing and putting roof over heads! And so much more! So next time you are purchasing from a business, think about the analogy above and the ways you can support your local community just by valuing what is on offer. Appreciate the effort that goes in to the product or service you buy. The business will truly Thankyou. Xx Carly Important Note. If you can’t and your budget won’t allow - that is ok! I’m not saying don’t shop around, go for it! Nor am I saying to spend beyond your means. But just don’t have the expectation of asking for it cheaper, it’s that price for a reason. Or think that someone’s time and knowledge is worth nothing, services may not give you a ‘physical’ product, but just as much goes into them! Oh and contra has a place... when the exchange is fair, equal and needed by both parties. ;)

16.01.2022 Hi guys, As most of you who follow me are mothers, you’ll completely understand this.. I’m going to be a little quiet on this page for a short while, as I need to catch up on work and be a present and less stressed mum to my sweet boys.... I’m feeling super unsupported in my current situation as a solo parent and it’s resulting in me feeling very overwhelmed, emotional and completely burnt out. I am still here and still taking bookings but i am just not going to post daily or even at all for a little while as I feel I need to take the pressure off a little. Please feel free to email me with any enquiries and thank you for your understanding
