24.01.2022 And then... DEMOLISH
24.01.2022 DEMOLISH is elaborate. Erected in the Bendigo Showgrounds, a team of lighting designers, choreographers, video artists, dancers, acrobats and demolition experts will construct (and destruct) a fragile homestead in the centre of the shed. What follows can only be seen to be understood. "We're kind of reluctant to give too much away, because we want to create a powerful and violent shift from something that's quite familiar," says creator Rebecca Russell. "A visceral sort of hard-hitting feeling is what we're going for." Thanks Broadsheet Melbourne
22.01.2022 Go behind the scenes of Demolish. Coming to Bendigo Showgrounds this December.
20.01.2022 The original premise for the show DEMOLISH, was to bring two women elders together to walk country, here on Dja Dja Wurrung land. One a Dja Dja Wurrung elder whose ancestors have always walked this country and the other a land owner whose family ties to this land go back to the 1860’s. We were never sure if this would actually happen. It did! And here they are, Aunty Linda Ford and Christine Rowe, two strong women, about the same age, with two very different stories. Walking country and listening to these women on Christine’s property that has been farmed by four generations of women and at Aunty Linda’s beloved Bendigo Creek, actually changed the direction of the show. Their words are the quiet truth that book end DEMOLISH.

12.01.2022 As local residents (from the town of Clunes), co-creators Rebecca Russell and Ken Evans are well versed in the region’s golden history and its economic lineage of nuggets, farming and tourism. The gold rush is something that’s celebrated, and there’s references to it everywhere, Russell observes, but one of the things I found most interesting when we first moved here was that it was difficult to find stuff about the First Nations people here. Discover DEMOLISH - opening this week at Bendigo Showgrounds. Thank you to Dance Informa magazine for this article.

08.01.2022 "Gold [mining] is always celebrated but what about the destruction that went alongside it? We wanted to go some way in capturing that in a visceral way for the audience. We thought of demolition."- Rebecca Russell.
