09.01.2022 #challengeaccepted thank you for the nomination. This movement started as a stand against femicide - especially in light of gender-based violence in Turkey & the #Istanbul Convention With #Covid19 lockdowns the numbers of women brutally killed are expected to rise. ... #PnarGultekin was one of the most recent victims - murdered by her former partner at 27 years old. That’s three years younger than I am now. https://www.msn.com//what-supernumberchallenge/ar-BB17jcCN Turkey’s legal system has been giving the murderers reduced sentences. So-called ‘honour’ killings are deeply rooted in the culture. And it could get even worse as the government now tries to back out of the Istanbul Convention. The Istanbul Convention was signed in 2011. It is a European human rights treaty criminalising several offences as violence against women, including forced marriage, psychological violence, stalking, sexual and physical violence. So #challengeaccepted is a movement of women sharing black & white photos in support of the Istanbul Convention. Against the Turkish government’s stance. Against the violence. But hey, we really shouldn’t have to remind people to not be violent to women. So let’s get involved until we no longer have to. Until men stop abusing women. Perhaps not a female-only issue either, as we all have mothers and sisters It has grown to be a female empowerment, confidence and positivity hashtag which I’m all for as well. Friends check your DMs for noms Let’s unite in this time of imposed distancing, share your photo in support and read up on what’s happening https://www.msn.com//what-supernumberchallenge/ar-BB17jcCN #turkey #femicide #genocide #empowerment #womenforwomen #feminist #womenempoweringwomen #womenempowerment #istanbulconvention
