16.01.2022 Hi Deni On a different note. Please share if you think someone in our community would be interested. ... Re: Looking for volunteers to run physical activity classes The Health Promotion Service of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is recruiting volunteers for its physical activity programs for older adults. MLHD is committed to the wellness of its communities. As research strongly suggests that regular physical activity is important to remain active and independent, the Local Health District offers low cost physical activity options to older adults living in the rural and remote communities. MLHD provides training for volunteers to run classes with their community peers. All classes are beginner friendly and everyone is welcome to join. Training is available in March 2021 for Tai Chi and Gentle Exercise volunteers. Further details are available in the attached flyer. We would appreciate if you could please distribute this flyer widely within your professional and personal networks. Should you have any query regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0409 781 326 or email: [email protected].
13.01.2022 Morning Deni On a very different note, we wanted to share this with you, for those who might have missed this through Covid Madness! Today Brenda Norman attempts another great challenge and that is to swim the Derwent River in Tasmania. ... This is what she said about the swim: On Saturday (9th January), I will be attempting the Derwent River Swim. It is a 34km swim starting at New Norfolk Bridge (pictured below) and ending at the Tasman Bridge. The Derwent River Swim is included in the toughest thirteen T13 marathon swims in the world. The changing weather and water conditions can be extreme. There have only been 7 people successfully complete the swim. I haven’t publicised my swim because of the uncertainty around COVID. I’ve been training for this swim since March 2020 but closely monitoring health advice and travel restrictions to know if my attempt was even possible. I have now arrived in Hobart, so things look very promising. Richard Jones, her training partner, successfully completed the swim 2 days ago. Brenda started her swim at 4am this morning. Over the past year we worked collaboratively with the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness to bring a number of mental health initiatives to Deni. Some of his was the #deni5in5 campaign during mental health month. Some of the work Deni MHAG continues to do in our community is made possible and supported by Channel4Change. This is an initiative started by Brenda Norman, a DHS teacher , to raise awareness of mental health in rural areas, in particular with regards to youth. Brenda approached Deni MHAG prior to her English Chanel Swim, stating her wish to raise funds for a charity through her swimming endeavours; and so this partnership began! Through her swimming endeavours Brenda has raised well over $50,000 to enable MHAG to do the fantastic work they do in our community. We spoke to her yesterday and she was feeling strong. Although we conveyed our good wishes to her on behalf of Deni MHAG and LHAC and the community, she would no doubt be needing support from all of us today. Jump onto her Channel4Change Facebook page to wish her well and see some live video updates. This is the link to her swim for those wanting to check her progress.
