24.01.2022 Tips to stop a car when one of the tires explodes when speed exceeds 100 km/h 1. First tip: When a tyre explodes try to stay as calm as possible and hold the st...eering wheel firmly with both hands. 2. Second tip: It's the most important keep your foot off the brakes and don't push it at all. Don’t even look at the brake pedal, don’t even think about it. 3. Third tip: Stay on your path and try not to change it or get out of anyone’s way, stay on a path as straight as possible. 4. Fourth tip: If your car has a manual transmission, gradually change to a lower BUT ONLY do so if you feel that the car is completely under control. If your car has an automatic transmission, stay in the Drive (D) gear DO NOT change. 5. Fifth tip: Don't use brakes, the drag from the exploded tire will slow you down. 6. Sixth advice: When speed drops to 50 km/h, you can gently press the brakes until the car stops Spread the message! You may save a life. #ccto

15.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM MURRAY RIVER POLICE DISTRICT COMMANDER, SUPERINTENDENT PAUL SMITH This health crisis is nothing like anything we’ve ever experienced, and I can u...nderstand members of our communities are anxious. But I want to assure you police are committed to using all the powers available to us to enforce all COVID-19 related public health orders and play our part in stopping the spread of this virus. I am encouraged to see most members of the community are taking this situation seriously and heeding the social distancing advice of the government. This includes businesses and individuals who have made enormous sacrifices in the process. Police HAVE the powers we need to enforce the Public Health Act, and we have ADDITIONAL powers thanks to new legislation put in place by the NSW Government. Police can now issue a Penalty Infringement Notice, or an on-the-spot fine, for the offence of not complying with a ministerial direction or a public health order. This on the spot fine is $1000 for individuals and $5000 for businesses. I want to assure the community we WILL be using this power if required. This means if someone is ordered to self-isolate and they do not comply, or if people do not adhere to social distancing rules, police WILL respond and issue them with a fine. This new power is in addition to the options that were already available to us a person may also be issued with a Court Attendance Notice with a penalty of up to $11,000 or 6 months imprisonment if convicted. Ministerial Directions we will be enforcing include: Self-isolation of diagnosed persons Self-isolation of incoming travellers Mass gatherings and social distancing rules Closure of social gathering places (pubs, clubs and restaurants) Over the weekend, we moved to ensure people could report non-compliance with public health orders through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. This has been well received, and I want to encourage people to use this service RESPONSIBLY, and help us reduce the spread of COVID-19 you can report instances online at www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au I also want to reassure you the NSW Police Force is well prepared to protect our citizens and continue our law enforcement capability throughout this pandemic. Police last week launched Operation Coronavirus state-wide to guide our response. We have highly specialised officers providing practical and logistical support to our 17,000 strong workforce as they respond to this crisis. Murray River Police District officers are conducting proactive patrols across our communities. These patrols also form part of our ongoing work with retailers, to ensure calm and fairness at the checkouts. You as a community can assist in keeping our officers on the road by using existing reporting options for non-emergency calls for assistance. Police Assistance Line on 131444 or our Community Portal https://portal.police.nsw.gov.au/ We continue to receive many calls at our stations across the Murray River Police District in relation to the NSW-Victorian border. At this time the border is not closed, and as we are all aware the border means little for us in our border communities who operate as one. What I must stress is for the entire community to re-consider any NON-ESSENTIAL travel in and between our communities. We will continue to work with our Victoria Police colleagues on this and the COVID-19 response. Please stay safe and continue to follow the official government advice so your police DO NOT NEED to intervene. This is a very contagious virus and we all need to do everything we can to play our part to stop its spread.

04.01.2022 The NSW Police Force will launch a large-scale operation to enforce the closure of the NSW/Victorian border tonight. The Public Health (COVID-19 NSW and Victori...an Border) Order 2020, under section 7 of the Public Health Act 2010, will be issued later today (Tuesday 7 July 2020). It will direct that from midnight (Wednesday 8 July 2020), no one can enter NSW from Victoria, unless they can fulfil specific exemption criteria. At present, the border is closed to those from Victorian ‘hotspot’ postcodes, with the entire greater Melbourne area now deemed a hotspot. As the scope widens and the border closes entirely, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has appointed Assistant Commissioner Scott Whyte as Operation Commander, to lead approximately 650 police officers in support of local police. The high-visibility operation will include General Duties officers from across NSW, as well as Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and other specialist units, such as the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit. Police will also be assisted by the Australian Defence Force with 350 personnel to be deployed from Thursday (9 July 2020). Assistance will also be provided by other government agencies; including Transport For NSW, and NSW National Parks as required. NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said that as always, safety remains the top priority. The aim of this operation is to keep NSW safe the broader NSW community, as well as NSW Police officers and operation support personnel, the Commissioner said. I know this closure will inconvenience many on both sides of the border, but the dangers and flow-on effects that accompany a second wave of COVID-19 are not something we want to see for our state. We have engaged with Local Members of Parliament and the Mayors of Albury and Wodonga to ensure local communities understand how the Public Health Orders impact on them and so we can work together to minimise disruptions to everyday lives. We anticipate the first 72 hours will be challenging, so we ask the community to be patient and work with us. Importantly, if you don’t need to cross the border, don’t, Commissioner Fuller said. There are 54 border crossings within five Police Districts across two Police Regions (Southern and Western), which will require both static and mobile policing strategies. Of the 54 crossings, 34 have been prioritised into three categories (A, B, C) depending on the traffic flow, location and characteristics, while the remining 20 crossings are tracks and trails. The six category ‘A’ locations which are the main crossings are: Wodonga Place, South Albury Hume Hwy, South Albury Cobb Hwy, Moama Newell Hwy, Tocumwal Sturt Hwy, Buronga Princes Hwy, Tambillica Police will also continue to assist NSW Health at Sydney Airport and regional airports with the screening of passengers arriving from Victoria, who have exemptions under the Public Health Act. Travellers who are departing from or arriving at airports in NSW are urged to adhere to the directions of airline staff, airport security, and NSW Health practitioners/officers. The Public Health Act 2010 (NSW) provides police with the power to enforce Public Helath Orders. It is an offence for a person to fail to comply with an order, and severe penalties apply, which include a maximum penalty of up to $11,000 and/or six months imprisonment for individuals. The standard penalty will be a $1000 fine by way of a Penalty Infringement Notice (PIN). Anyone wishing to travel into NSW will need to apply for an exemption online via Service NSW. It is an offence to provide false information when applying for exemptions. A substainal fine applies. Police continue to appeal to the community to report suspected breaches of any ministerial direction or behaviour which may impact on the health and safety of the community. Anyone who has information regarding individuals or businesses in contravention of a COVID-19-related ministerial direction is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.

02.01.2022 COVID - 19 UPDATE There are a few changes that have taken place with the way Deniliquin Rescue Squad operates that you might notice. We hope you understand and can help us through the next few weeks.... Some of the changes include: We are cancelling all non essential community engagements, training and meetings for a while. If you come to our rescue shed for any non life threatening issues we are not going to be able to let you in. Please call by phone instead. We wont be able to show you or your children through our vehicles and let them sit in it for a while. And unfortunatly we won't be out and about due to the Social distancing rules for a while. Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of hard work to continously decontaminate our Rescue vehicles, uniforms and headquarters to ensure we (the Rescue team) and you (the community) are protected. We are still 24/7 responding to emergencies and have plans in place to keep you (the community) and our team safe. Thank you for your ongoing support we could not do this without everyones support and understanding of the community. A Helping Hand Anytime Anywhere #covid19 #vrarescue

02.01.2022 UPDATE - WATER BOMBERS AT WORK @12.10pm: From District Assistant Gerard James: "So it's about a 100 hectares, or 2,500 acres. We had about 10 appliances there ...last night with probably 30 crew members. Now we've got another 8 appliances out there today with another 30 crew members. We've got the RJ80 from up at Richmond, which is a medium large air tanker and he's been working on the eastern flank dropping retardant. He's got another plane working with him called the Bird Dog which flies him in and gets him on line. We've also got a medium size helicopter bucketing water onto those big trees that are on fire and a small air tractor which is what operates out of the local airport to work on the flanks as well. So we've got 4 aircraft in the air. "We've got two road graders working around it, putting a perimeter right around the whole fighter. Plus an excavator knocking over some of those big dangerous trees because especially down against the river, we can't afford to spread over the river, that Bullatalle side. It's all that cropping out there in the bush it would just burn for weeks. So we're really trying to keep it this side of the river." BUSHFIRE @7am : Local RFS brigades were called to the location 10 kilometres south of Deniliquin along the Cobb Highway at around midnight, with the fire out of control and in danger of spreading. The fire has burnt around 1000 hectares and was caused by a fallen power pole. As of the last half hour, crews have managed to get the fire under control, however it is still burning. A crew change-over occurred 10 minutes ago, with firefighters expected to monitor the fire into today and create protective measures. Well done to all our firies!
