25.01.2022 Ivy Attwood’s family gathered in Cobden on Friday morning to say their goodbyes to a much loved daughter, sister and aunt. Ivy spent much of her adult life helping her sisters and brothers care for their children, spending weeks and when necessary, months, doing the hard yards together. Sisters June and Colleen, along with nieces Jaimie and Piper shared treasured memories of this generous, fiery, talkative woman who loved Licorice All Sorts, Twiggy Stix, jubes and surrounded herself with photographs of her family. Ivy will be sorely missed and forever loved.

25.01.2022 Family and friends came from New Zealand, Cobrico and other local communities today to pay their respects to wee Barrie Molloy, who passed away last Tuesday. Barrie had fought the Beast that was his brain tumour for one year, one month and one day, so his family’s description of his as a fighter was not a hollow boast. His friend of nigh on 40 years, Brett Goodger, told stories of his little mate; from losing his bedroom to Barrie as a 17 year old because his mum had rented h...is room to Barrie, to yarns from the racecourses they visited down the years........with mixed success. Barrie’s wife Angela, children Thomas and Grace, along with Barrie’s parents and sisters proudly celebrated his drive to succeed in his new home and on the dairy farm he and Angela had worked so hard to develop into a thriving business. The family will take Barrie’s ashes back to NZ at a later date. Thank-you, Angela, for allowing me to be part of your parting gift to your, strong, big man. See more

22.01.2022 On Saturday 28th March, the first week of the new restrictions on weddings, Kellie Neal married Paul Coverdale in the yard of their lovely home in Walls Street. Kellie’s children, Jaylee and Taylor, were their witnesses and I can assure you all that 5 does a meaningful wedding ceremony make. Paul and Kellie had originally planned to marry a week later, but decided to move the ceremony ahead a week to ensure a lovely sunny day for their celebration. The ceremony was always going to be a 6-7 minute one anyway, so apart from absent family & friends, nothing else altered. Their first wedding anniversary party will be spectacular, so all is fine. Thanks Kellie and Paul for a wonderful afternoon.

21.01.2022 A fine, if windy, day greeted the family of Pearl White today as they gathered at the Cobden Cemetery to farewell the matriarch of the White and Boyd families. In her 97th year, the last of Mary and John Boyd’s 9 children was remembered as a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be greatly missed. Widowed twice, Pearl and husband Peter raised 4 boys on their dairy farm in Cooriemungle, as proud members of the vital Heytesbury Settlement fami...ly. Son Russell shared fond memories of his mother, to much laughter, as did Pearl’s grandchildren: Emma, Hannah, Sarah and Robert, with Pearl’s baking skills front and centre in their minds. Stories of sponges, lemon meringue pies, lamingtons, eating freshly picked passion fruit and a shared appreciation of Euchre and 500 will echo down the years. Pearl’s active pride in her grandchildren’s educational successes is something I am sure Russell and Linda will replicate in the years to come. She has set the standard for them all. See more

21.01.2022 Received a lovely card from Tracey Morehouse (Sullivan) today, which is greatly appreciated. Just a quick note to again thank you for your support with our final goodbye to Dad. Your compassion and professionalism makes a difficult and heart-wrenching experience one that we can look back on and know we did the best we could for Mum and Dad in trying circumstances. Many thanks to the Sullivan girls for allowing me to help them farewell their parents this year.

19.01.2022 Many thanks to Tracey Morehouse and her sisters Vicki, Debbie, Colleen and Wendy for the lovely thank-you card that arrived today. Helping you and your family bid farewell to your mum, Christina, was a pleasure and your kindness is truly appreciated.

19.01.2022 The sun emerged from the clouds to bathe family and friends in its warmth, as Claire Dagley married Davey Hill. While Camperdown is their current home, Warrnambool features in the future of these two gentle people, who began their relationship via Tinder and sealed it at the Camperdown Botanic Garden yesterday. Claire’s brother, Michael, and Davey’s sister, Kristien each read a poem in celebration of love, marriage and the commitment required so both continue to bloom down the years. Parents Nerolee and Ian, and Lyndel beamed throughout the ceremony; their guests shared a laugh and rose petals showered Claire and Davey’s first few steps as husband and wife. Isn’t life wonderful!

18.01.2022 Arthur Justin was farewelled by his son Robert, daughter Faye and surviving brother Clifford on Tuesday 31st December in a simple graveside service. Arthur lived a quiet, honest and upright life in the Camperdown area, farming with his father at Skybo and then his wife, Marion, at their dairy farm on Cross Forrest Road. Faye said Arthur used to sing to himself in the dairy and when driving the tractor, something few of his friends and family knew about, so it was lovely to be able to offer this simple insight into his personality. Faye and Robert offered their sincere thanks to neighbours Bevan and Steve for keeping an eye out for Arthur in recent years; their support allowed him to remain at home a bit longer. Arthur was buried with his beloved Marion. Thank-you Robert and Faye for allowing me to help you honour your father.

17.01.2022 Nell Edge passed away peacefully a week ago in Terang, after battling bone cancer for 5 year, and was buried with her husband Norm yesterday. As with all funerals at the moment, only 10 mourners were allowed, so her children Carolyne, Leslie, Cheryl, Graeme and Allison, along with their partners, bid her farewell. Nell’s love of gardening was highlighted in the service, with her children laying camellias from her garden on her coffin, so she was surrounded by their blooms in death as she had been in life. Other members of her extended family formed a guard of honour for Nell at the entrance to the cemetery, but respected the current restrictions by not attending the graveside service. I thank the Edge, Cook, Willsher, and Rylance families for allowing me to help them say goodbye to their matriarch.

16.01.2022 Look what just arrived at my door! Not only did the lovely Zoe write a generous review of her wedding ceremony, she and Sean sent me these beautiful blooms and scrumptious chocolates to say thank-you. Life is indeed wonderful.

16.01.2022 Warrnambool put on her best spring frock today for the wedding of Natasha Podger and Chris Grayland at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. Blue skies and a gentle breeze were in stark contrast to the rehearsal the week before, where the wind swirled around us like a spinning top and the cold bit like the devil. Natasha, Mel, Holly and Elizabeth shone in the sunshine, while Chris, Jack and Luke looked dapper in their relaxed attire. Chris promised to stand by Tash’s side, during the racing season and the off season, which in a Speedway family is a crucial task. Family and friends will party at The Lady Bay long into the evening, as this cruisey couple embark on their next escapade together.

16.01.2022 Wednesday 1st July saw the Clarke family bid farewell to their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maxine. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions and considerations of COVID-19, only 3 of Maxine’s children, along with their partners and 3 of her grandchildren were able to be present. But that did not mean Maxine’s service was not filled with love and gratitude for a life lived for her family. The funeral service was live streamed; 7 family members shared poems and fond memories of Maxine; her country music favourites were featured, along with her sense of humour and generosity. She was laid to rest with her husband Arthur and infant daughter, Sharon, in Camperdown. Thank-you Kristy for allowing me to share this day with your family.

15.01.2022 2020 has been a difficult year for many families, but none more so than the family of Christina and Allan Sullivan. Christina died in late February and Allan died last week, so their daughters have had a daunting year. Allan’s funeral service was live-streamed as only 10 could be in attendance, but that did not mean the service was any less meaningful for his daughters Debbie, Vikki, Colleen, Tracey and Wendy; it was just quieter. Christina’s service and wake were more lively, but she was the colourful parent. From what I learnt about Allan, I doubt her quiet, placid husband would have minded a more sedate farewell at all. Thanks to the Sullivan girls for allowing me to play a role in farewelling both their parents; a true privilege.

15.01.2022 A lovely surprise arrived today: June and Colleen called in to say, thank-you for making a hard time much easier to say good-bye to our Ivy, from Millard family. It is always a humbling experience to be able to offer support to others who are in the midst of grieving. I am the one who needs to thank the individuals, and families, who put their trust in me.......and I do.

13.01.2022 Lilly Rose Doherty, the Purple Princess, slept blissfully through her Naming Ceremony yesterday. Parents, Brooke and Taylor, along with family and close friends, gathered in their Dover Street backyard to celebrate her first birthday and commemorate her entry into their lives. Grandparents, Rose and Shaun, along with godparents, Mandy and Thomas, promised to be her life-long allies and protectors. There were a few tears of joy and much laughter in the story of a young couple and their hopes and dreams for their daughter’s future within a loving circle of highly respected friends. Happy days all around.

10.01.2022 The guests, along with the Herefords, celebrated the marriage of Lyn Staggard and Danny Burke at their home in Noorat East yesterday. Rain arrived about 15 minutes before the nuptials were to begin, but obediently continued on its way south before Lyn arrived. Lyn’s son, Liam, read a poem and Danny’s daughter, Josie, read an excerpt from ‘The Alchemist’ which highlights the changes that occur in your life once you commit to another. The role of coffee, football, patience, generosity and perseverance were highlighted in the story of Lyn and Danny’s path to marriage. Their 50 acres symbolise a grand future for both the extended families and the generations of Herefords to come. What a joy it was to be their celebrant; a thousand thanks, Mr and Mrs Burke.

09.01.2022 Tall white gumtrees, green ferns and lush undergrowth provided a tranquil backdrop for the wedding of Maegen Potter and Billy Berends at Brucknell yesterday. This delightful young couple chose a setting that reflected their love of the outdoors and camping, a love that was nurtured by their parents as youngsters. The bush theme even featured in the colourful ties Billy, Josh, Eric and Alex wore. Maegen and Billy’s devotion to each other, their siblings and parents shone b...rightly throughout the ceremony and all present enjoyed the story of the cheese gremlin and her Macca’s latte fixated champion. Broad smiles and laughter dominated the proceedings on this memorable day. However, the added highlight for yours truly was a visit from Billy and Maegen on their way home the next day, to thank me for the ceremony I crafted for them. I am blown away by such kindness; they also gave me some preserves they had as gifts for their guests, along with a lovely note of thanks. A true gift on so many levels. See more

09.01.2022 Glenn Roberts and Phil Hitchins tied the knot at Camperdown Botanic Gardens yesterday afternoon. Friends Jenny and Daniel were there to help them celebrate the culmination of their 7 years together. Like all those couples marrying in the time of Lockdown, a celebration with family and friends will be enjoyed at a later date, after all, being married is what’s important to these lovelies; parties are negotiable. Purple and violet were the colours chosen by the wedding party, complimenting the silver foliage in the garden, and as the culmination to my early 2020 wedding season, I could not be happier.

05.01.2022 A lovely surprise today: a visit from Claire and Davey Hill to thank me for marrying them last week. To be thinking of their celebrant in the first week of their newly married life tells you all you need to know about this delightful couple. Thanks Davey and Claire for your kind words and friendship; I am a very fortunate woman.

05.01.2022 Funerals in the time of COVID-19 are doubly hard for families because they cannot farewell their loved one with the celebration of life they would wish. Numbers at the service are restricted to immediate family only, and even then, in some cases not all family members can attend. But the Rooke family was more fortunate than many, as their immediate family is small, therefore they were all able to farewell patriarch Les yesterday; only the great-grandchildren were absent. His ...wife of 69 years, Marj, was supported by their children Anne and Greg, along with their children and so the family was able to bid Les adieu quietly, yet lovingly. A larger celebration of Les’ character, idiosyncrasies and history is planned for the future, when community life returns to the new normal and his brothers and friends can share their memories with the family. But there was love, laughter and a few tears yesterday, and as Marj said to her brood, Pop would be proud of you all. See more

04.01.2022 Saturday morning saw Rhikki-Lee Henderson and Matthew Coverdale marry at the Coverdale family home in Bostocks Creek. Knowing Matthew as a neighbour, former student and now my trusty electrician, the morning was a special one for me and I was thrilled to be their celebrant. The sun was out, the boots and hats were on and the ceremony was exactly what Matthew and Rhikki wanted. The limit of 10 for regional ceremonies did not faze them too much, as they had always wanted a sho...rt ceremony, however they definitely missed their extended family and close friends on the day. Nonetheless, there were chuckles aplenty as Matthew’s first cautious text to Rhikki was read; the one that culminated in their wedding ceremony 3.5 years after their first meeting. Along with the joy of the ceremony itself, there was a surprise for me at its conclusion: Rhikki and Matthew gave me a lovely gift of wine, a wine glass and a generous note of thanks. The formalities were concluded by 10.30 am, but the next 60 years of married life lay ahead for these two lovelies. See more

03.01.2022 Cobden turned on the sunshine for Jeffrey Hutchinson today as his family bid him farewell after a long illness. His daughter Nicole and her family, daughter Jennifer, sister Robyn and a multitude of cousins and lifelong friends paid tribute to their friend who had been a farmer, truck driver, speedway racer, lover of Aunt Marge’s scones and 8-year old firebug. There were plenty of shared moments and laughs as Jeffrey’s life story was told. He had been in palliative care for a... few months and so took the opportunity to tell his story, his way, over our three meetings. Cousin Kate delivered a loving tribute and grandsons Elijah and Caleb each presented a reading. But youngest grand-daughter Jorja lit up the civic hall when she joyfully thanked all for attending her Pa’s funeral. His eldest child, Jennifer, spoke at the graveside, reminding us all that her father and his adored wife, Christine, were together again therefore we could be happy for them both. It was a fine day, one I am confident Jeffrey would had approved of, given his desire to please everyone. See more

02.01.2022 The latest restrictions of COVID-19 did not stop Jodie Cole and Robby Simpson celebrating their wedding with their family on Tuesday afternoon. They were due to marry on 15th August, by which time the new restrictions for regional Victoria meant they would only be able to have 5 present at the ceremony: themselves, 2 witnesses and yours truly. So, on Monday we organised for a Tuesday ceremony with mothers Janet and Lyndell; children Enya, Wylie and Xavier; bestman Travice; bridesmaid Christina; page boy Travice and sleeping toddler TJ, all present. The bridal party wore white and purple, with the dining room decorated in the same colours too. The brief ceremony was a great success, with a celebratory dinner that night to cap off a challenging few weeks for Jodie and Robby. Mr and Mrs Simpson are in the house!!

01.01.2022 The matriarch of the Tobruk Street Sullivans, Christina, was farewelled by her family and friends this morning. Daughters Debbie, Vikki, Tracey, Colleen and Wendy ensured their love and admiration for their feisty mum was celebrated in the story of Christina’s battles and adventures down the years. A stroke at 41 years of age did not hinder this resilient woman; she stayed her course, becoming an even finer role model to all who knew her. Christina and husband Allan provided a home, dignity and support to many whose lives were troubled for a while, ensuring that second chances were possible. A mattress in the lounge room for those in need symbolised all Christina stood for and her family is justifiably proud of the mark she left on their lives. Tenacious women are indeed a force to be reckoned with.

01.01.2022 Rodeos are where it all began for Stevie-Lea Chapman and Marty O’Leary 14 years ago and it culminated in their marriage in Camperdown yesterday. The Chapman and O’Leary clans celebrated with their friends at the Camperdown Botanic Gardens as these two lovelies vowed to be with each other, always. Blake and Blair were included in the ceremony too, when Marty promised to always look after them, sealing his pledge with a ring for each of them; a ring for each family member at the start of their new life together. The rain of Friday stayed away and the clouds parted at the right time, so all was well. The relaxed garden setting was the perfect backdrop for this young couple as it reflected their personalities and quiet joy. Marrying them was a distinct pleasure.
