23.01.2022 Old tools used in wooden boat building extend beyond traditional hand tools. Here are some pictures of some of the drills we use in the workshop from a 12V Bosch through to a chuck Van Dorn. Modern drills simply aren’t suited to some of the heavy, low-speed drilling operations in boat building, which is where the older power drills from early last century absolutely shine. We have a chuck Black and Decker standard, a chuck Black and Decker heavy duty and a ch...uck Van Dorn (that would probably rotate the earth on its axis!). The larger two are unstoppable and are as good today as the day they were built. Sometimes, newer does not equal better.
