24.01.2022 As mentioned in our press conference this afternoon, our staff and volunteers are working to strengthen containment lines and bolster asset protection. Bulldoze...rs and other heavy machinery create boundaries around vital assets which help to slow down the pace of active fires and offer protection. Photos below show plant machinery enhancing what are already very sound containment lines around some important assets. In the map below: - The blues line is an access trail to allow firefighters to get to the fire - The black crosses are implemented containment lines to slow the fire spread - The black dotted line is the ACT

23.01.2022 WATCH AND ACT - ORRORAL VALLEY FIRE This is a WATCH AND ACT level bushfire warning. You need to keep up to date and decide what actions you will take because b...ushfire conditions are changing. The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) advises that people in the remote areas of Orroral Valley and surrounding areas could be affected by a bushfire near Boboyan Road, Apollo Road, Top Naas Road, conditions are changing and could get worse. You need to be ready to follow your Bushfire Survival Plan. If you do not have a plan you should start preparing now because the situation could get worse. No properties are under threat at this time. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you or your property is under threat. Begin your preparations now. Do not wait to see firefighters or signs of fire to act. What you should do: Activate your Bushfire Survival Plan if you have one: > If you do not have a Bushfire Survival Plan identify where you will go if you need to leave > Go to esa.act.gov.au for regular bushfire updates > Listen to your local radio station > Bring your pets inside, close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure > Locate important documents, emergency kit, medication, animals, and family members > Inform your family, friends, and neighbours of your plans and see if they need help preparing > Moving your car outside if you have an electric garage door > Arrange alternative transport in case of evacuation if you do not have access to a car > Taking any additional action to protect your livestock and property. Current situation: The fire is travelling in a south east direction. The fire is out of control and firefighters are responding to the fire. People in the area may be affected by smoke, which could reduce visibility and air quality. If conditions change, firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door or in your street. 16.01.2022 Two new urban fire trucks have arrived to the ACT Emergency Services Agency to help keep Canberrans safe. There’s a new pumper equipped with a 25 metre ladder a...nd rescue platform. It's named after former F&R Chief Officer Mark Brown in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the ACT Community. And a second impressive new larger truck with a 42 metre aerial platform for accessing multi-story buildings. This delivers on our $4.2 million commitment to the vehicles to help ensure ACT Fire & Rescue firefighters are well equipped and prepared. 15.01.2022 ACT Fire & Rescue Chief Officer Mark Brown is retiring tomorrow after four decades of remarkable service. Thanks Mark for your dedication and service to firefig...hters and the Canberra community. Mark's experience was on display during the 2019-20 bushfire season. He led an effective response to several urban fires including the Beard Fire that threatened lives and property. Mark has passionately advocated for greater inclusion and diversity in the ACT Emergency Services Agency by breaking down barriers to Indigenous and female recruitment. I wish you all the best in retirement.

08.01.2022 Keen observers might have noticed some additions to the Canberra firefighting fleet. With the current heightened fire risk, Canberra has secured the use of 2 av...iation Panther Ultra Large Fire Vehicles (ULFVs), for at least a week. The vehicles were secured through the cooperation of ACT Fire and Rescue, Airservices Australia and the United Firefighters Union of Australia. They arrived from Avalon (Victoria) on the weekend. The Panther ULFVs are designed for fighting aircraft fires, but obviously provide an additional level of attack for a large fire front. They have been strategically placed in Canberra, along with their crews from Avalon (Victoria), Hobart and Brisbane. We welcome our aviation firefighter colleagues. A speed of up to 120 kmh, and water capacity of 10,000 litres makes the Panther ULFVs a welcome enhancement to our current capability.
