25.01.2022 CERAMIC CROWNS Our patient came in with a broken metal-porcelain crown and needed a replacement. We used to use the metal-porcelain type of crown a lot back when we had no other option. Unfortunately these crowns tend to chip and aren’t able to mimic the colour of natural teeth very well (as you can see in the before picture on the left). 17.01.2022 CEREC ONLAY Onlays (sometimes called partial crowns) are a great treatment option when you have a broken tooth like this one. A direct filling wouldn’t last as long as we would like, and a full crown would be too invasive. But an onlay = juuuust right. With onlays, we aim to protect as much natural tooth structure as possible, and so only remove the parts of the tooth that are damaged or weak. 02.01.2022 INTERIM TREATMENT Our patient lost his front teeth and decided to replace them with implants. Implants come in two parts: the base screw-like component that goes in to your bone, and the tooth-like crown that goes on top. Often when we place implants, we have to wait a few months for the bone to properly attach to the base part of the implant before we can attach that tooth-like crown on top.... Going many months without teeth (especially front ones!) can be a bit of a scary thought, so we like to make our patients a set of false teeth (aka dentures) so that they can smile confidently while waiting. This patient of ours is a great example of the difference a set of interim teeth can be!
