23.01.2022 Massive thank you to all of the nurses that assist our patients and staff when we are operating at St John of God Midland! It’s a wonderful hospital, run by great people!

21.01.2022 Matt from Midland Supa IGA paid us a visit yesterday for his dental check-up! Matt is not just a local business owner (his family have owned and run the Midland Supa IGA for 30 years!) but he is also a long time friend of Dr Adam Peermamode - Dental Sense. We love supporting local small businesses, which employ over 44% of Australians so they are such an important part in maintaining local jobs. ... If you haven’t been down there, stop in and check them out! Say hi to Matt when you are there, you won’t meet a more energetic and friendly person!

21.01.2022 Did you know that NIB Health Fund members can now download a digital NIB card on your smart phone! 21.01.2022 Important Update: Dental Sense is still open, and will continue to have emergency appointments available to our existing and new patients. We are however taking additional precautions to protect our patients and staff, these include:... - Patients who have been overseas in the past 2 weeks, have come in to contact with someone with Covid-19 or have cold/flu symptoms will have their appointments rescheduled for a minimum of 2 weeks - In addition to our usual high standards of infection control we are now doing hourly clean of our reception area with hospital grade disinfectant (the same that is used to clean down our surgeries) which includes chairs, tables, reception desk, door handles, pens, EFTPOS machine etc as you can see Abby doing in our attached video - All magazines, brochures and kids toys have been removed from our waiting room to try to minimise risk to our patients. Also as we are cleaning down the reception area hourly, we need to ensure it is clear - We have medical grade antibacterial hand sanitiser (minimum 70% isopropyl alcohol) available for patients as they walk in the door. We are well stocked with appropriate PPE, including masks and gloves, and will continue to offer the high level of care you expect from Dental Sense. The safety of our patients and staff is always at the forefront of every decision we make. We will continue to ensure we maintain the highest standards of infection control, especially throughout this difficult period Please do not hesitate to contact us either by phone (9250 8844), email or PM if we can be of any assistance or if you have any questions

18.01.2022 Dr Adam Peermamode has attended the annual Dental Sleep Medicine Conference in Sydney over the past couple of days. The conference covers a wide range of theoretical and practical knowledge for the fabrication of mandibular advancement devices prescribed by sleep physicians. These are often used as a treatment option for obstructive sleep apnoea Adam has a keen interest in this field of dentistry and will continue to further his education in this area.... All of our dentists spend a large number of hours each year on further education, making sure that they stay up-to-date with advancements in treatment, products and technology.

18.01.2022 Welcome back DR DAVID MAKSE! We are very excited to announce that Dr David Makse will be returning to Dental Sense as at the 25th November 2019! David previously worked at Dental Sense for around 7 years, so knows our staff and patients very well!... David is a well known and respected dentist in the Swan and Hills regions of Perth, having worked in Kalamunda for the past 6 years. His values closely align with those of Nicole and Brett (and the staff at Dental Sense), with a focus on quality family dentistry. David has always built meaningful relationships with both his patients and the staff he works with. His passion for dentistry is very clear to his long-term patients. We cannot wait to welcome David back and we know that our patients will be given the best possible care. David will be seeing both new patients and also welcomes back any of his previous long-term patients. 18.01.2022 Donation to Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre: We couldnt be more proud of our wonderful staff! One of our long serving nurses has recently been supporting her mother through cancer treatment. During treatment they noticed that she was getting quite painful mouth ulcers, and they were using Biotene mouthwash to help. ... This gave her the idea to put together some "oral hygiene" packs for the other patients who were undergoing treatment there. We absolutely loved the idea and were more than happy to donate the products and staff time to help put the packs together. She also included a wonderful hand-written note in each pack, just to let them know someone was thinking about them and wishing them the best with their recovery. The staff at St John of God were very accommodating and made it very easy for us to hand out the care packs! We see this compassion and caring nature in all of the staff we have here at Dental Sense, they all rally behind the various community initiatives we support. We are very lucky to have the amazing support and dedication of our staff, and that they care so much about our patients and the local community

17.01.2022 Abby and Brett paid a visit to Kids HQ (Yappara House) in Guildford this week to present one of our FREE dental education sessions! If your school or day care would like a visit from us, please feel free to call us on 9250 8844 or send us an email to [email protected]

15.01.2022 World Prematurity Day (November 17th) For those that don’t know Nicole and Brett’s daughters, Amelia and Imogen, were born around 2 months premature The following is a post from Nicole to help raise awareness of the challenges for the parents (and more importantly the babies)... We owe a debt of gratitude to the hard working NICU nurses, doctors and other staff at King Edward Memorial Hospital who gave the absolute best of care to our beautiful babies! The NICU is run by amazing and dedicated staff! No one prepares you for the ride as a NICU parent of a premmie (or two!) with the wires, the incubators, the constant hand sanitiser (we had that down pat before COVID), the two steps forward one step back each day, the leaving your babies at the hospital and going home, the endless acronyms for everything medical, the limited contact and cuddles BUT the reality is these tiny little babies are the toughest fighters around AND it’s hard to believe ours are nearly 4! These two are keeping us on our toes, testing our patience but most importantly making us smile each day as they grow. You’d never know they were Prem! #worldprematurityday #nicuparents #kingedwardmemorialhospital #preemietwins

04.01.2022 To keep our patients and staff as safe from COVID-19 we clean our reception area, including door handles, with Viraclean, which is now recognised by the TGA as the only hospital grade cleaning product to kill COVID-19 The best part is it is made by an Australian company Whiteley Corporation so supporting local businesses and Australian jobs, which is critical at this difficult time.

04.01.2022 Dental Sense is here to help, with the full range of dental treatments and procedures able to be performed, this includes sleep dentistry options (such as IV Sedation) The government recently reduced the restrictions on dental treatment to level 1, which allows us to do all treatment as long as patients do not have any cold or flu symptoms and are not currently in isolation (due to travel or being in contact with a potential COVID-19 positive person) We are taking additional... precautions to ensure that we provide a safe environment for our staff and patients, which includes: - Adequate supplies of PPE, such as masks and gloves - Enabling social distancing in our waiting room, by ensuring chairs are at a safe distance - We clean down our waiting room between patients with Viraclean, which is an Australian made, hospital grade, surface disinfectant. It is in fact the only disinfectant that has been approved by the TGA as able to kill COVID-19. - Our staff screen patients when booking in for COVID-19 risk factors - We use a hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse for our patients, prior to us starting any dental treatment. This should help to reduce the risk of patients passing on COVID-19 - We have clear signs at the front door to alert people who have either travelled overseas, have cold or flu symptoms or have been in contact with anyone that has had COVID-19 not to enter the building, and to call us for instructions - We also have hand sanitiser for patients as they walk in the clinic We welcome all existing and new patients, so if you would like to book an appointment either feel free to call our clinic on 9250 8844 or you can book online 24 hours a day through our online booking function: https://healthengine.com.au/webplugin/?id=34701

04.01.2022 Dr Nicole Hocek received this beautiful bunch of flowers and wonderful note from a local community organisation. She has been working with a wonderful young man who was referred to us through this community organisation. Nicole has done a significant amount of pro-bono work for this young man, to get him out of constant pain and give him back his smile! When the CEO of this organisation first called us she had been refused assistance by multiple organisations and clinics, ev...en though she was just trying to get much needed help for this young man To date we have had him in for 7 appointments, where we did fillings, a clean, some extractions and gave him a brand new set of partial dentures. We also then commit to putting our pro-bono patients on our recall list, and will bring them back each year for a free check-up and clean! We are quite strict with our criteria for doing pro-bono work, as we can then make sure we provide assistance to those who need it the most. Our criteria is as follows: - The patients must be referred to us through a reputable (preferably community based or local government run) organisation, we unfortunately dont take people who are self referred - The patients must not be eligible to have the work done in the government system, as there is options made available to them through the state government - There needs to be a compelling reason that they are deemed needing of pro-bono treatment. Often this will be young people who have been kicked out of home, women who have come out of domestic violence situations, victims of elder abuse etc. - We tend to focus on our local area, being the City of Swan, as we just dont have the resources (as a small family owned business) to help outside of this region Each case is assessed on its own merits, and we always fully commit to a case if we take it on, so we dont only get the person out of pain but we will develop a plan to get them back on track with their oral health It is very rewarding to be able to assist people in their time of need, the people in Midland and surrounding suburbs are so good to us this is part of us giving back! We have attached a copy of the letter (with any identifiable information removed) to show the difference that this type of work makes and why we are so specific about the eligibility criteria
