16.01.2022 On Monday 27th April 2020 we will be open under Level 2 restrictions. The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) the key decision making committee for health emergencies comprised of all State and Territory Chief Health Officers and chaired by the Chief Medical Officer has now advised that as of Monday 27 April 2020 that Level 2 restrictions be applied. Level 2 objectives of the restrictions include:... 1) to prevent further spread COVID-19 in the community, 2) the restriction of dental services to reduce transmission risks for COVID-19 3) to reduce the burden on medical primary care and emergency services. To help you understand what this means for you, we are listing some of the situations in which we can serve you (unless you are COVID-19 positive or unwell with any of the symptoms i.e. cough, shortness of breath, fever) Provision of dental treatments that are unlikely to generate aerosols or where aerosols generated have the presence of minimal saliva/blood due to the use of rubber dam. This includes: - Examinations - Simple non-invasive fillings without use of high-speed handpieces - Restorative procedures using high speed handpieces only provided with the use of rubber dam - Non-surgical extractions - Hand scaling (no use of ultrasonic scalers) - Medical management of soft tissue presentations (such as ulcers) - Temporomandibular dysfunction management - Denture procedures - Preventative procedures such as the application of topical remineralising agents e.g. fluoride - Orthodontic treatment We have to defer all routine dental treatment. all routine examinations (check-ups), scale and clean appointments (including using an ultrasonic or hand scaler), dental implant placement or restoration of an implant, preparations for crowns and bridges For patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection we will refer you to your local hospital for dental care. The AHPPC agreed at its meeting on 7 May that ‘moving dental practice to level 1 restrictions was appropriate in the current epidemiology and with the restoration of supply of surgical masks’.
