21.01.2022 Any of these symptoms of a cracked tooth sound familiar? Cracked teeth can be difficult to diagnose as cracks can be microscopic and don't show up on x-rays. Some patients put up with these niggly pains until it is too late - by this point severe pain can occur from the crack spreading into the nerve of the tooth or down below the gum-line.... Good news is that when caught early, cracks can be treated and further advice or treatment can be given to prevent other teeth from cracking. 19.01.2022 Cracked teeth can be a pain! Literally painful for the patient and challenging to diagnose for the dentist. Symptoms include: - Pain or discomfort when biting - Pain to hot or cold... - Pain that comes and goes & is short lasting and sharp. This patient was experiencing all these symptoms. Once the crack was diagnosed, a lovely all-ceramic crown was placed. This not only treats the symptoms, but protects the tooth from further cracks. If cracks in teeth are left untreated, they can get bigger and then the tooth can break - either small pieces breaking off or, worst case, the crack can travel down into the nerve of the tooth or under the gum, leading to the need for root canal or extraction of the tooth. *Treatment for cracked teeth will vary from patient to patient. Individual results will vary.
