23.01.2022 IN THE NIGHT SKY It's a proud moment for Cecil Andrews College student Keira-Jayne Logue as her artwork, Night Sky, hangs in the Noongar Country 2020 exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery! Her painting, which has had fantastic feedback, moved one viewer so much that it sparked them to begin working on a book with the 13-year-old artist. By going above and beyond, students and staff felt connected in spirit during a time when they werent able to come together physically. 21.01.2022 SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE Children in the Wheatbelt have been given 'seed libraries' so they can plant, grow, harvest and eat their own vegetables. Part of the Seeds in Schools program, the aim is to help children learn about growing veggies from scratch, and to record the plant cycle process. Around 100 seed libraries, containing 4850 packets of seeds were sent out. We can't wait to see what these little horticulturalists grow.
21.01.2022 STUDENTS MAKE AIRWAYS Tune in tomorrow morning to hear Mosman Park Primary School's star radio students read poems inspired by Indigenous culture and language. The students will be on-air on 100.9fm Noongar Radio as part of their Koolangakas Takeover Week, which features Indigenous authors talking about what inspired them to become writers. The poems, written and voiced by the Year 2 and 4 students, were recorded by Noongar Radio's Bernadette Little and Josephine Baron-Hay Ford, to celebrate Noongar language and allow students to reflect on what Indigenous culture means to them. Tune in from 10:15am tomorrow to hear their little voices!
21.01.2022 ZERO2HERO Students and teachers from 21 of our schools attended zero2hero's 'In Your Head' youth mental health forum at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre today to learn ways of maintaining good mental health. Students and staff heard from inspiring keynote speakers, participated in several workshops including yoga and mindfulness, social media and self care, building resilience, nutrition and mental health, and a Beyoncé dance class! 17.01.2022 WHEN POETRY AND MUSIC COLLIDE Denmark Senior High School student Tyler Hartfield has a disability that affects his speech, but in his music class he shines as a songwriter, composer and director. Tyler's journey into music began with writing poems in English class before collaborating with his classmates to write and produce a powerful song titled 'The One You Feed'. 17.01.2022 MARVELLING AT THIS MELVILLE MURAL Applecross Senior High School's Year 8, 9 and 10 Gifted and Talented Visual Arts students have completed this incredible mural at Westfield Booragoon. ‘Our Melville, a view from Booragoon’ shows the story of the City of Melville and the suburb of Booragoon bringing to life the personality of the neighbourhood. 17.01.2022 WALKING FOR A CAUSE Students and staff from Newdegate Primary School and Lake Grace District High School walked alongside the inspiring Ann Mcleish while she was en route to complete her 200km walk to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia - WA. Students and their local school communities also helped out with fundraising efforts. What a lovely way to show support for such an important cause!

12.01.2022 LOOKING TO THE STARS Alana Dooley - Warwick Senior High School student, and CSIRO's 2019 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Secondary Student STEM Achievement Award winner - has been fascinated with space since she was a child. Growing up, she wanted to be an astronaut. Now, she has shifted her focus to understanding space, and is studying STEM subjects to realise her goal of becoming an astronomer. Alana encourages all Aboriginal students to take up STEM learning and embrace the opportunities it provides. "We have this really lucky thing where we have the knowledge of over 60,000 years that we can bring into STEM, because we were the world's first scientists." 07.01.2022 A FIN-TASTIC EXPERIENCE Students at Lathlain Primary School dived right into an epic immersive ocean experience for National Science Week! Students got involved in ocean origami, ships and aquarium virtual tours, lightbox sand art and robotic sea coding, among many more activities. They were also lucky enough to have visits from Australian Institute of Marine Science Spatial and Ecological Data Scientist Dr Marji Puotinen, who ran incursions learning about coral, and the Marine Safety WA's Junior Crew, who provided free boating safety incursions. 07.01.2022 PLANTING HISTORY Two new Aleppo pines propagated from the Aleppo pine at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra were planted in a ceremony yesterday at Bob Hawke College. They sit among original Aleppo pines sown from seeds brought from Gallipoli in the 1920s in remembrance of those who fought for us. The local community, City of Subiaco, DevelopmentWA and the College came together to source and plant the new pines in time for #RemembranceDay. Students were asked to look after these trees, because they are special, and one day return and see them tower above you. #WeRememberThem

07.01.2022 MASCOT MAKING Midvale Primary School have upped the game for team mascots! As part of the Deadly Arts Program run by The Song Room, students sculpted three native Australian animals out of cardboard, polystyrene, pool noodles and chicken wire, before using papier mache and paint to decorate them with Indigenous designs. Students also learned the symbols used in Indigenous art, how to incorporate them, and the Noongar name for each mascot: Norne (snake), Maali (swan) and Yarkan (turtle). The mascots will be paraded and displayed at school sporting events in the future. What a wonderful project!

05.01.2022 Year 6 students from Banksia Grove Primary School performed the Fremantle Dockers club song in Noongar, English, and Auslan at half time during the Sir Doug Nicholls Round last Friday. After performing to their school community during NAIDOC Week, they were ready to take on the large crowd at Optus Stadium. What a great way to honour the AFL's annual Indigenous round which recognises and celebrates Indigenous players and culture!

02.01.2022 A NOVEL IDEA Year 3-6 and Year 9 students at the School of Isolated and Distance Education - SIDE had the opportunity to practice their drawing skills over Webex with graphic novelist Cambell Whyte recently. During the session, students learned how to draw characters from his graphic novel series, Home Time, an Australian fantasy set in Perth. They also heard how he developed the book and where he drew inspiration from. So cool!
