25.01.2022 Shearing rams today. Well it had to happen sometime, the old fella has chucked the towel in and we have a new shearer in the shed. Many thanks Ash Rumler for a job well done. Rams have come out of the wool well and will be ready for your inspection from October 1st.

25.01.2022 Champion Suffolk Ewe Royal Geelong Show Deppeler 8 sired by Rangatira

25.01.2022 Deppeler 50 - "Jubilee", sired by Magnum and out of our show ewe Alice. Compact, thick and deep, and virtually faultless. To be retained in the stud.

24.01.2022 Lot 90 Bendigo Elite Online Sale. One of the better ewes we have bred and without a doubt the best we have ever offered for sale. A standout from birth and topped on property scanning early this year. Only offered now to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the stud.

24.01.2022 By 1990 we had increased our Suffolk ewe numbers to 75 and in 1992 we had kept almost all, our ewe lambs. In September 1993, after much persuasion from "friends" (? - former Suffolk breeders!) we registered a White Suffolk stud. For the 1994 lambing - 60 of our Suffolk ewes were mated to a White Suffolk ram. Our foundation sire, kindly provided on lease, from Geoff & Jill Gale was their proven sire Galaxy Park 289

23.01.2022 Had hoped this young May drop ewe may have created some interest this year, at least we can enjoy looking at her in the paddock.

23.01.2022 Home again from Adelaide, a very satisfying trip. Many thanks to James and Chantelle for your support, and just as importantly our thanks to the underbidders - I wish there was two of him as well! We do have some very good rams for private sale and most importantly a great drop of lambs this year which promise to be our best yet. Unfortunately we are not able to be part of the "Elite" in Bendigo this year, but we sincerely wish all those involved the very best and hope this proves to be a great event once again.

21.01.2022 I was honoured to receive Life Menbership of the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association, Victorian Branch, during the Geelong Show. Some people do not rate personal accolades such as this, and I can honestly say everything that I have ever done within and around the stud sheep industry has been because I wanted to, and because of the enjoyment and satisfaction obtained. Nevertheless it is extremely gratifying to be recognised by ones peers and I accept this recognition ...with pride and humility. An involvement (for most of a lifetime) in the this industry has only been possible with, and because of the support from Lorelle, whose shared involvement and passion has made this possible, and so I see this honour as an acknowledgement of our shared involvement. In receiving this honour I join a special group of people whom I respect and admire, and whose company I enjoy. A sincere thankyou to all involved. Doug D> See more

21.01.2022 Through 1970 to 1975 the stud grew quickly with many additions. Four seperate buying trips to the "Stonehaven" stud of Richard Shipp @ Kerang, Vic - founded in 1936 and a leading Australian stud virtually throughout its entire life - saw the purchase of 18 ewes and a ram ($275). November 1972 at a multi vendor sale at the Gawler showgrounds (SA) and the ram "Gumdale" 167/71 ($160) and two "Gumdale" ewes were purchased from R.E. Shanahan.... Through this period ewes were also purchased from Kenneth G. Rook, "Karook" stud at Pakenham Vic., a leading Victorian stud at that time, from the "Gregdavid" stud, Wagga NSW and the "Burwood" stud S.A. In August 1974 purchased the entire "Karook" stud and in January 1975 purchased the entire "Nhilldandee", the home of our foundation ewes. At the 1975 Royal Melbourne Show, the ram Allendale 1225/74 was purchased for $600 ! Throughout this rams lifetime 1225 was known within the family as - "Expensive"! Pictured are Gumdale 167/71 and Allendale 1225/74

20.01.2022 Some more photos of "our mount" - or at least where it usually is! A combination of smoke from bushfires, south west of us and to the east and north east, combined on occasion with fog and these are the results.

20.01.2022 During the foundation years of our White Suffolks, apart from a little A.I., all sires were sourced from the Gale family, Monarto South, S.A. In 1994 we purchased a half share in the Adelaide Champion - Fingerpost 16/93 (pictured). We continued to use proven sires, by lease, Galaxy Park 1109, Galaxy Park 429, Lochstock 570 and Galaxy Park 1340 "Awesome" (pictured). We are very proud of the quality and evenness of our White Suffolks, no doubt a direct result of the quality sires used in our formative years.

20.01.2022 Our 2018 drop keeper White Suffolk. Scanned really well as a lamb and has surpassed all our in flock selection criteria. Has run with our flock rams all year and is entirely grass reared!

15.01.2022 Deppeler 190008 - Bendigo Elite Online Sale. N.B. our rams had normal show preparation till June 1st and since then no hard feed!

15.01.2022 On April 19, 1970, the Deppeler family visited the "Nhilldandee" Suffolk stud of Brian Dickinson at Tooradin, where Doug purchased 6 mated Suffolk ewes @ $40 each. These ewes were in lamb to "Pinery" H434, a former Adelaide Champion, bred by Mr Ern Sharrad from Arthurton S.A., a leading breeder at that time. The ewes were transferred to the Deppeler family farm, "Corrumbene", at Modewarre, near Geelong where Suffolk stud 560 was registered to Mr Douglas A. Deppeler under the ...Corrumbene prefix. In 1977 the Deppeler family relocated to Derrinallum, where they called the new property - "Narambah". Doug and Mike Deppeler joined their parents Alan and Yvonne in the family partnership trading as Narambah Partnership. The Suffolk stud was formerly transferred to Narambah Partnership with Doug as manager. In 1993 the family started a White Suffolk stud "Narambah" under Dougs management. in 2002 following on from the deaths of both parents Doug and Mike dissolved Narambah Partnership, with Doug retaining both Suffolk and White Suffolk studs. Lorelle and Doug started a new partnership, trading as Deppeler Suffolks, and the prefixes of both studs were changed to "Deppeler" (although ASSBA in their wisdom decreed the Suffolk flock number had also to change!) And now there was only one name to remember!!! See more

06.01.2022 We are very excited to introduce our new sire - "Sunnybanks" 190111. This young ram, born late August, was sired by a ram lamb and is from a ewe lamb. There is no doubt in our minds, that "111" will breed well and take our Whites to the next level.

06.01.2022 We have exhibited our Suffolks right from the beginning, starting at the Geelong Show in 1970, exhibiting best Novice Suffolk ewe. Geelong 1971 and that became Champion Suffolk ewe. We have shown continously in Geelong ever since - the 2019 Geelong Show - our 50th showing at that event. 1972 exhibited two ewes at the Royal Melbourne Show and gained two place ribbons. This also was the start of something - the 2019 Melbourne Show was the 48th consecutive showing of our sheep at that show. Pictured are two early winners the Reserve Champion ewe at the Albury Sheep Show in 1973 and the Champion Ewe at the old Melbourne Sheep Show in 1974. The judge is Mr Richard Shipp of the Stonehaven stud.

03.01.2022 Deppeler 190058 - Bendigo Elite Online Sale.

03.01.2022 Many thanks to the team at Silk Southdowns for their efforts and initiative in staging the 2020 Rona Show. Our lamb successful as Champion Lamb of the Show continues to impress, weighing 50 kgs @ 12 weeks.

02.01.2022 The AWSA have been doing a series of flashback show champions through their magazine, so we thought we might do the same. At the Royal Melbourne Show in 2015 - a White Suffolk Feature, our ewe "Lady" was judged Champion Ewe. This ewe weighed 124.5 kgs in Melbourne (@ 3 year old) and scanned 7 MLS fat and with an eye muscle 52 MLS deep by 102 MLS wide, giving an EMA of 40.8 sq. CMS - and all with over 100 kgs of lambs at foot. These figures putting "Lady" ahead of many rams exhibited. "Lady" died December 2018 after producing 6 sets of twins, of which 7 ewes and 1 ram have been retained in our stud.

02.01.2022 Deppeler 7 was entered in the Elite Sales in Adelaide, but due to a minor leg injury incurred in transit to Adelaide was withdrawn from competition. Now completely sound again this ram has been exhibited in Melbourne with success. Weighing in at 124 kgs with 8 mls fat. Eye muscle scan of 55 mls deep by 104 mls wide giving an EMA of 44 sq. cms, making 7 the largest EMA Suffolk in Melbourne. Deppeler 7 - James placed fourth in the Interbreed Stockscan Performance Class and will now be retained in the stud.

02.01.2022 Deppeler "9" sold Royal Adelaide Elite Sale for $5,500. Thanks to new owners James and Chantelle Cassebaum SA
