17.01.2022 This is a woman's embroidered mull cap with puffed crown and ruffled lace edge and dates to ca.1815. It has a floral pattern embroidered at top of crown with ...lace insertions in blossoms and eyelets, seven diamond-shaped puffed net inserts around crown, and a band of eyelets with leaf motifs within overall pattern of V-shaped motifs. 15.01.2022 Humans of Gero. "I feel like I get on better with horses than I do with people, Christy Poulsen says. Christy’s mum rode racehorses, so Christy grew up around... them. "I got my first pony when I was four, and by the time I was fifteen Mum said I needed a job, so she sent me to the racing stables. Growing up in Waikouaiti, New Zealand, Christy has been living in Geraldton for six years as a track rider. "We basically exercise the horses, she says with a smile. "I get up around 3 o'clock in the morning and I ride track with the horses, then finish the day off at the beach. "Swimming is really good for their muscles and it's relaxing for them. It's a different atmosphere for them, away from the track and I enjoy going for a swim with them too." Christy says she would've liked to race horses but she can't. "I lost my eye when I was four, so I'm completely blind in one eye. I got a piece of fencing wire in my face but it hasn't really prevented me from doing anything in life. Christy hopes to eventually get a horse of her own one day.

12.01.2022 Melbourne Cup - a national tragedy. I'm over it. The Melbourne Cup is no longer about which horse won but which horse died. In 2019, Theguardian.com described 5 ways to make horse racing more humane:... 1. Ban whips 2. Fully ban jumps racing 3. End 2 year old racing 4. Improve racing retirement 5. Ban tongue ties I have a few more: 6. Ban FIFO foreign horses 7. Reduce the number of horses in the field 8. Make veterinary records public 9. Ensure all entries are scrutinised by an animal ethics committee prior to the race 10. Non compliance to the above = A life time ban The horse racing industry needs to improve its animal welfare practices or be shutdown.
