10.01.2022 It's a week since we held the biggest mtb community Ride for Forest Australia has ever seen. A big thank you to everyone who came along on the day, and the coun...tless others who've contacted us asking how they can be part of protecting the forests of north east Tasmania from their part of the world...fyi go to our website take action page for starting tips. We'd like to extend a special thanks to the businesses and organisations that have supported us, and the work we do. From @keeptassiewild who donated towards our citizen science work, @theausinstitute for research support, @weldboroughhotel for hosting our community events, including our bioblitz. And to the mtb and accommodation businesses who've actively promoted our events and Ride For Forests last week to their networks thank you! @tailoredtrailstas @tasmanianebikeadventures @bigmountain_derby @tindragoncottages Support the businesses that support keeping our forested trails intact, and building a strong and diverse local economy in north east Tasmania. #bluederby #mtbtrails #keepbluederbywild #worthmorestanding #keeptassiewild #savetassiesforests #tassiestyle #talkderbytome

05.01.2022 Mount Paris is an enormous rise (620m!) between Ringarooma, Branxholm and Derby, with a mine there owned by Fred Krushka in 1901 employing 12 people. At the tim...e it was reported that 'if the present developments continue, large capitalisation and very expensive machinery will be required for the exploitation of the mine on a proper scale'. As was often the case with mines there were acquisitions, positive projections, floats, capital raisings etc. In 1926 it was reported that 'the water race to carry water on to the Mount Paris tin mine is being well pushed on.... it is hoped that by early in the new year the mine will be connected to the race and the work of raising tin carried out'. By 1928 they were reporting little success, owing to leakage from the head race. In 1935 a new company was formed, and floated successfully, resulting in the building of the Mount Paris Dam. The mine struggled, and the dam had its problems. In October 1952 the Derby Police warned residents that the Mount Paris and Cascade Dams were in danger of breaking under the weight of flood waters.
