25.01.2022 Inspired by some of our childrens interest in @hamishandandy s @legomastersau , this week we set up Dernancourt kindergarten LEGO Masters! Some of our excited engineers painstakingly built following the step by step instruction booklets, whilst others freestyled, creativity flowing as they built towers and boats to the pictures in their mind. Reading, analysing, testing, persisting, and experiencing intellectual stretch.

23.01.2022 Fire-one of the natural elements. Gathering around a fire creates a sense of community. Developing a healthy respect and knowledge of fire is a life skill. Better this be done in a supervised environment! And of course what better way to enjoy cooking marshmallows, damper or jacket potatoes.

22.01.2022 We started out following @muddlypuddly s recipe for chalk paint, using language involving quantity and ratio. Of course we invited the children to mix up the recipe... we had teeth marks in our tongues as the children experimented using trial and error, playing with viscosity, solubles and texture. The end result was probably not what we expected, but the child-led learning, of course, exceeded expectations!

22.01.2022 Clay’s three dimensional qualities encourages the children to think about structure, shape and form.

21.01.2022 Discoveries along the way spark rich conversations, intrigue, joy and wonder

21.01.2022 The teddies have taken over kindy for our final playgroup sessions for term 3 today. Thank you to all our families for being so understanding with our booking system in place and being flexible by coming along to our additional afternoon session. Playgroup will resume again term 4, 23rd October.

20.01.2022 Kindy working bee this morning. Come and join us Natalie needs all the help she can get

18.01.2022 Mud week done well! Goopy, oozy, slimy, sticky, icky, glorious mud.

18.01.2022 Unable to make our usual visit to the residents living at Highercombe in Hope Valley this year, we decided to send some beautifully painted pictures from the kindergarten children. So glad to see how this small gesture brought so much joy. #KindnessChangesEverything #KindnessPandemic

17.01.2022 Clays three dimensional qualities encourages the children to think about structure, shape and form.

17.01.2022 Learning by doing! Today's tinkerers are also tomorrow's inventors and entrepreneurs.

17.01.2022 Is anybody out there? Elevated hideouts, eye spy windows - a place for the imagination to run free

16.01.2022 Preparations begin in the veggie patch. This is going to take a bit of work as we devise a way to keep those chickens out of the beds!

16.01.2022 We wish all our mums and mother-figures an extra special day today. Thank you for all you do (and have done, especially in recent months).

15.01.2022 Curiosity, creative expression, physical activity, and appreciation of music from diverse cultures.

15.01.2022 Id love to answer the phone but...Im a little tied up at the moment!

14.01.2022 The Tuff Tray lived up to it’s name as the children enjoyed this sensory play experience. Lux flakes, a little colouring, and water were mixed to create these great blobs of colour. From one corner of the tray to the other, colours were swirled together as little hands squished, squashed and scooped. Bubbles were discovered with potato mashers and thick satisfying mountains of goo were poured from jugs. Descriptive language was a plenty as the children delighted in sharing their discoveries.

14.01.2022 So special to receive this photo from the medical team at the COVID-19 testing unit at Lyell MacEwin hospital. Unable to make our usual deliveries during Harmony Day this year, we sent our best wishes to these amazing workers. So great to see this display celebrating and honouring harmony and International Nurses Day

14.01.2022 Our resident pastry chefs whipped up a wide array of desserts in our mud kitchen this week. Sourcing ingredients from our yard, they foraged for natural resources, thoughtfully designing and creating sweet treats such as Lilly Pilly cupcakes, and a $100 pie with thoughtfulness and precision.

14.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. NAIDOC week 2020. Inspired by Aboriginal symbols, the children shared their own stories of family, culture and ways of being.

11.01.2022 Dernancourt Kindergarten acknowledges this day, this week, and our First Peoples. We look to a future where we all know our history, acknowledge the past, share stories, create opportunity for healing and journey forward together in peace and truth.

11.01.2022 Adding in spices to make the teacher stew spicy! This excerpt from one of our 4 year old authors who today penned Teacher Stew, inspired by Wombat Stew. Playful Literacy: engaging with texts, creatively composing language, expressing ideas, developing confidence as a reader and writer.

10.01.2022 In heavy winds last week, a limb from our tree cracked and dangled precariously in our yard. Once the area was secured, the children sourced hard hats and traffic signs as they excitedly watched tree management bring in the cherry picker and cut down the branch. We are happy to report that our yard is once again ship shape!

10.01.2022 Composing language to communicate wants and needs and collaborating toward a shared goal. Building identity, belonging and connection. So much more than a simple water pump!

09.01.2022 Time for the gumboots and wet weather gear to come out!

09.01.2022 This amazing cake was an industrious collaboration between a busy group of boys. Pictures don’t quite capture the rich conversations in this process or the extensive time that passed. This learning experience involved the discussion of ideas, experimentation, trial and error, sharing discoveries & prior experiences... just to name a few!

08.01.2022 Always happy to meet the latest recruits for SAPOL. Visits like these help build vital connections with our community and broadens our childrens understanding of safety networks.

07.01.2022 How about some bush tucker? The children have been harvesting Lilly Pillies at kindergarten. They have been a popular ingredient in mud kitchen mixtures, crushed and dissected at our apothecary, and some brave people even had a taste!

02.01.2022 Thank you to all those who were able to help out this morning at our working bee. There was a buzz in the air (no pun intended) as children and parents generously gave us their time and efforts. The kindy yard has had an overhaul and looks amazing. What a great community to be part of! Thanks everyone

02.01.2022 Being in nature, in a quiet and reflective way, listening, watching, touching, and feeling, allows children to witness the interdependence of all things.
