If you fall into either of the following -over 65 years old... - have a chronic condition that puts you in the high risk category - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged six months and older -and pregnant (at any stage of pregnancy) please call the centre and we will gladly book you into the next available spot in our flu clinics. All children aged six months to younger than five years are eligible for a government funded flu vaccine as well. Remember that they need to recieve 2 flu vaccines 4 weeks apart if it's their first time getting the vaccine. Please ring the centre and we will gladly book them in with their GP. Stay safe everyone.

21.01.2022 Currently there are no flu vaccinations australia wide so please be mindful of that when booking an appointment for a flu script. The stock we have here are issued by the government for Over 65 years, children under 5 and people with a chronic illness e.g. Asthma etc. This is out of our control sorry

20.01.2022 Good news! We have some of our GPs home from Holidays. Please note that we are looking after the community the best we can and remember If you have transferred your medical file to another surgery you will be classed as a new patient. At this stage please return to your primary GP. At present we are not accepting any new patients until end of December so we can look after our Community and Primary Patients. Thank you for your understanding.

17.01.2022 Hello to the Derwent Valley Community. As Dr. M.Sweet and Dr. R. Peters have both resigned, our surgery is trying our best to service the whole of the Derwent Valley Region. If your medical concern is urgent, please attend the RHH. We are recruiting new Doctors and trying to source Locums to help the community but there is a GP shortage nationwide. If you are presenting to the clinic as 1 of Dr Sweets or Dr Peters patient you will need a current Health summary from your Dr. Thank you for your understanding at this time and we will get through this great loss in service to the valley.

15.01.2022 We are holding script clinics on most days if you are wanting a script only. Please keep up to date with your scripts as running out and expecting an appointment on the day is difficult when all doctors are fully booked. Thank you for your understanding.

13.01.2022 Please note our Doctors normally finish earlier on a Friday so there will be no late appointments.

12.01.2022 Please be advised our HotDoc sends out reminder appointments automatically if you receive one of these it is just a confirmation only of your app. We only require you to phone the clinic if unable to make that app. You will not lose your app. by not responding.

11.01.2022 While we do understand that not being able to see your Doctor for your condition maybe frustrating, we are not an Emergency Department. We are doing our very best to help the community at this stressful time. The Derwent Valley Medical Centre has a zero tolerance for abusive and/or threatening behavior against all staff and Doctors.... Abusers will be required to leave the clinic, to transfer their medical care to another practice and may result in police intervention.

11.01.2022 Derwent Valley Medical Centre is under new ownership. Gonzalo and myself (Lester) have been working hard in the background to meet the changing healthcare needs of the Valley. We just want to let our community know what we are working on: 1. Shorter waiting times and more doctors... We have confirmed 5 more locally trained, Aussie doctors to join us in the next few months and new year! Our waiting times are down to within a few days and with more doctors joining our team we expect this improvement to continue. 2. Renovations We have taken over Dr Peters old rooms and have put in an application with the Crown to renovate this area for more consulting rooms. Once complete, this area will be named Peter's Wing out of an abundance of respect to Dr Ralph's enormous contribution to the community. 3. Skin Cancer Clinic As some of you know, I hold post graduate qualifications to diagnose and treat skin cancers. So far all of my patients have been word of mouth. We are aware of the ever-growing concern and need for specialist skin cancer services in the Derwent Valley and are responding by a large personal investment in equipment to facilitate an skin cancer clinic. We will get this up an running soon and let you know. We have appreciated all the feedback so far and will do our best to serve the community through the medical centre and district Hospital. Best regards, Lester and Gonzalo
