22.01.2022 Based on the current New Zealand government policies and international border restrictions in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Cha...mpionship cannot take place as planned on 28 - 29 November 2020. The decision was made after careful consideration with our local partners and authorities to assess the feasibility of hosting the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship this November in accordance with the guidance on mass gatherings and border and travel restrictions, as well as athlete qualification opportunities and other issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic beyond our control. Based on the information we have to date, and to provide sufficient notice to our athletes and the community of Taup, it is clear the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship cannot proceed as originally planned. We are continuing to work diligently with all stakeholders to secure a new race date for early 2021. Updates on a decision will be shared as soon as possible. Athletes that are registered for the event will be receiving an email with further information. If you have additional questions, please contact [email protected]. Although these are challenging times, our team looks forward to delivering the exceptional IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship race experience our athletes deserve.

Over the past few months, triathletes across the country have shown their resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity, and Triathlon Australia have put together a video showing the strength of those people to reflect on the road we've travelled, as well as looking ahead to the future. The decision was made after careful consideration with our local partners and authorities to assess the feasibility of hosting the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship this October in accordance with the recommendations on mass gatherings and border and travel restrictions, as well as athlete qualification opportunities and other issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic beyond our control. Based on the information we have to date coupled with our mission to host a truly competitive world championship and establish a timeline that gives our athletes and the community as much preparation time as possible, the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship cannot proceed as originally planned. 03.01.2022 Sadly, over the weekend we received news from the International Triathlon Union and the Edmonton Local Organising Committee that the World Triathlon Grand Final... in Edmonton will not be taking place in 2020. Due to the cancellation of this event, Triathlon Australia is therefore unable to select a team to attend this 2020 International Triathlon Union Age Group World Triathlon Championships. We truly understand the perseverance and the sacrifice each of our applicants have made across the 2019-2020 triathlon domestic season. Although we are heavyhearted that we won't be able to witness your greatness out on the course in Edmonton this year, we understand this was the right decision for the health and safety of all involved. So while we won't be going to Edmonton this year - we look forward to seeing what lies ahead and hope to see you in Bermuda for 2021!
