25.01.2022 Do you feel like you should be focussing on slightly different things in your career? Not sure what it is or where to start but have this nagging feeling that keeps re-surfacing? If this is you, you have two choices. Brush it off or EXPLORE IT!!! You get to choose if the light is red or green. The green is you choosing to be open to opportunities - to knowing what you value most, what interests you most and identifying what it is you want to do more of. Align these or... some of these in your working life and you will be humming more - trust me. The current world of work is wanting you to adapt, explore and grow. It wants you to be creative. What's stopping you from creating something new for yourself? It doesn't have to mean vision boards (although it can and I find these exciting), massive changes or long and expensive assessments. It can start with a discussion. When did you last do this? I have these discussions with clients and they identify small steps they can take, that work for them, to move towards what it is they want in their career. 11.01.2022 NEED A NEW RESUME? FREE RESUME REVIEW. A lot of people are surprised when I suggest doing a new resume for every single job you are going for. But you need to TAILOR IT PEOPLE!! Every role wants something different and every advert will have unique selection criteria to address, and specific key words to include. Want to stand out from the pile and have a kick-arse resume? Here's a couple of tips to get you going: SPEND TIME pulling the position description apart and ident...ifying all of the essential things they want you to respond to and in what order. Also highlight the key words they use so you can include them and show them you 'sing from the same song sheet'. CREATE A TABLE. List the key selection criteria in column 1 in order of importance and add two other columns. What experiences have you had that demonstrate you using this skill successfully? In column 2 describe the situation you were in when you used this skill and why and what needed to be done. Then in column 3 list the action you took and the results of your action (e.g. better systems, happier teams, million dollar tender secured ... :). This is called the STAR method. Brilliant to remember for job applications and interviews. Situation, Task, Action, Result. Resumes take time to do. If you don't have time to spend on it call in professional help like mine. I spend hours and hours on my clients resumes and cover letters making sure they hit the target and look the part and that my clients are happy. Small investment to get the job interview right? Things have changed and there are more options now - you don't have to go into debt. Micro Credentials are like mini degrees on a very specific industry topic - they are low cost, short and online and everyone is starting to offer them.
