25.01.2022 Family traditions ; Making spiders was one of my favourite recollections I had with my siblings. It was so theatrical and combined my two favourite things... ice-cream and creaming soda. Fast forward to today and it warms the heart to see things havent changed too much. Kids are still playing with food combos and making a mess. My business has grown exponentially when my true identity speaks - sometimes with gusto and sometimes with gentle nudges. I don’t have a name for the little devil voice, but I’m warming to Fucktitty Fuckface!



25.01.2022 What have I learned in the first 2.5 years in business? That 21 years in the industry never prepared me for failure in business. When I was in a 'job', the failure became the problem of the boss' and they would sort it out, with a reprimand of course. Adaptability is so important and coming from a perfectionist upbringing, I struggled a lot with failure. Now, I get excited by the lesson (okay, I still have a little trepidation) but now I understand I'm learning to become a better business woman and constantly adding more value to my clients - things happen for you, not to you (thanks Steve Newman). Assess, pivot and look forward to the next failure. :)

You can do this in Online groups but the power of in person networks like BNI - when utilised to its full potential - is pretty amazing. I simply reached out to a business owner in need and recommended one of my chapter members whom I like, trust and use and he was able to solve her problem and put some serious moola in his back pocket. This reflects positively on me for both, even though Im not expec...ting to get any exchange. Its a givers gain value, paying it forward is something I truly believe in. 20.01.2022 What I love about my business is that I can’t be pigeon holed. My style adapts to the needs of the client/project, What their story is and how design plays a role in visually communicating that. I’m excited to revisit a project close to my heart. The story starts when I was at a Cultured Deserts workshop by @gutsyferments @buchikombuchaustralia when I overheard they were bringing out a book on Connection to gut health, family and food. I thought, what’s the harm in asking if... they had a designer. Just so happens they hadn’t gotten that far. I was already a customer of Gutsy and Buchi . Add in the amazing talents of @thehinterlandphotography and Creative Direction from Angela Grayson, all of whom ferment, and it was a match made in heaven. One the biggest design projects I’ve done - 356 page Bible - found my limit that 20hours straight on finished art is crazy. But I had a lot of fun, challenged myself and Forged new friendships. All egos were left at the door which was part of the success. I’m looking forward to sharing some of this project with you. 19.01.2022 Understanding how people read is vital when designing. HEADLINE, Sub-headline, body copy and Notes have a hierarchy as to placement on the page so that the reader is guided. Not all designs have to be composed this way, but recipe books... most definitely. There were more than 80 in this book. Knowing when to use a double page spread image, single recipe with an image or no image is just another layer in the design process... not to mention colour, flow, font size, typeface, paragraph, recipe verses instructions... you get my drift. My personal belief is; Its not who you are now, but who you want to become. So my strategy for this design was to reinforce movement... (of course) and inspire young dancers; take them on the same journey from Oz to L.A. that GDP take their students, where they can reach their full potential. Design... This project used a lot of image layering, colour overlays, animations on the imagery as you roll over etc... and always use the KISS theory. Considering the target market were also teens, the imagery has to stop them scrolling and to speak to their dreams of being on the global stage. 16.01.2022 Premium Pools and Gardens Logo - Rebrand. We created 3 sub-brands for the various services they offer so this parent logo needed to be super clean, simple and a referent to All brands. I always consider a logos application- watermark, marketing, digital, vehicles and print. Not many people associate black with Pools or Gardens but when you want to elevate and make a big statement, then say it with conviction. #KISS #simplicityofdesign #brandidentity #logo

Sure, no problem. The answers are always in the pain points - referring to Kreepy Krauly owners wanting a product that actually cleans the pool, doesn't get debris caught in it or leave it behind, cleans walls and stairs, reduces ...carbon footprint, is less hassle, takes less time, uses less chemicals etc...wow, KK really getting a bum deal here. We used the KISS theory... Keep It Simple Silly... and effectively created a brand around Smart technology for Smart people.

The technique needs to be natural yet deliberate; From Variety of angles, highlighting colour and movement and always with the brand story in mind. Our professional and creative photographer was thinking on her feet, many times aware of and inspired by her surrounds including climbing on top of cabinets to grab this shot of food coming out of the oven with a cute mother and child moment that cou...ld never have been curated. I think our shortlist for this book was over 500 shots. Editing alone was mammoth, and working into the book layout so that the pages flowed took a lot of consideration... and loony days. As well as The importance of a healthy #microbiome, why organic, the impact and sustainability of food and a the story, passion and life work of Dr Sarah Lanz and Weier Higgs - Local Brisbane Boss Babes that are inspirational women, mothers, authors and leaders in their fields. With the focus today around buying local, supporting local and understanding where your food ...comes from, I figured this is a good time to showcase this amazing book. This is not your average recipe book about fermenting, so the design emphasis was to differentiate from other recipe books and elevate to a luxurious statement piece youd be proud to display. Somewhat contrast to the natural, earthy styles around you shove in the cupboard. As any budding chef would know, oily fingers prints on he pages are inevitable but the embossed and foil finish of the cover alone is so stunning, youll want to buy two. The biggest design challenge was to find the common thread that could be visually communicated in two or three ways, that keep the reader engaged whilst still staying true to the authors. If you think 100 page books are hard to design, try 365!!! Ill share a few inside pages and styled photography in the coming weeks. Not all bad if the staff understand the brand and objectives, but in my experience, if you involve the 'frontline' in your brand refinement from the get go, you're going to get the best intel into what your customers and clients' want to see changed for a better experience.

05.01.2022 Simplifying the complexities of Branding... If you're still wondering why, this is a great article. From a designers perspective, the logo itself can take between 4-12 hours, but just like getting to know a person, the multifaceted creative research for the branding takes a lottttt longer. Thankfully I've had a couple of decades working with many industries and affords me to work intuitively, and because branding is based around people's emotive buying behaviour, not much h...as really changed in the last two decades. I started in a time that graphic designers had to be artists who could visually communicate ANY style for any market. Today, there are a many graphic designers that only specialise in a style they're comfortable with. But does this do your business justice? How do you know that the logo style you've picked is right for your business? Being on trend is great, but it's a bit like fashion, eventually those high pants are going to go out of fashion. Investing in branding takes priority over logo development.

04.01.2022 Goal... to make Premium Pools and Gardens (PPG) a highly sought after Landscaping and Horticulturist Business in the Western Suburbs and Brisbane City. (TICK). This amazing team had copious amounts of talent, expertise and knowledge, but their brand was 10 years old and no longer reflected the quality of workmanship they now produce and want to attract. Strategy was important to assure the narrative, tone and imagery was new and on point, whilst still giving the nod to their original brand colours of green and gold.
