23.01.2022 Tasmanian Architecture Awards 2020 Entries Category: Educational Architecture Parklands High School Redevelopment by ARTAS Architects... Parklands High School is one of two public high schools in Burnie, North West Tasmania. There was significant scope to improve and repurpose spaces in existing buildings across the campus, and adaptive reuse and refurbishment forms a major part of the works alongside new buildings to support the schools vision for specialist offerings. Our design looked at creating a series of ‘Hub’ spaces with flexible and integrated functions. These include the Social Hub, the Arts Hub, the Learning Hub which also functions as the major circulation route across the school and individual hubs for each year group. The school’s administration and entry was also reconfigured to improve functionality and redress the front of the school. Principal Magella Dudley said at completion ‘...as students moved into the ‘State of the Art’ auditorium they were blown away with the high quality of the physical space and reality of the investment in them’ Photos: Aaron Jones Photography

05.01.2022 Thanks to the amazing fundraising efforts of the Holman Clinic Auxiliary, sky ceilings will be installed in both radiation treatment rooms at the Launceston Gen...eral Hospital. These ceilings act as a virtual window, creating an illusion of looking through to the sky. Access to nature or nature imagery can support healing, reduce stress and anxiety and provide a positive distraction to improve the patient’s experience. Our Auxiliaries play such an important role in supporting our community, thank you for all you do!!! . See more

03.01.2022 : Trees intercept and slow storm water, decreasing the likelihood of flooding and erosion, and improving water quality La...rge trees have a greater benefit in terms of reducing pollution than small trees Trees, shrubs, hedges and grasses have a positive effect on the environment by the transpiration of water and the emission of oxygen by photosynthesis Plantings around buildings are a proven method of reducing the demand for artificial heating and cooling with a resultant, and important, lower use of fossil fuels. Greenery provides ‘white noise’ reducing the effects of man-made sounds. Haven’t we all driven around looking for that shady spot to park on a hot summer day! Trees and other plantings can reduce asphalt temperatures of carparks by as much as 13C, and cabin temperatures by 17C. 500 trees are required to absorb the 5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emitted by a 4 cylinder car driven 20,000 kilometres. 30 to 40 mature trees are required to store the carbon produced by one person. Tree canopy on private land is declining at a rate of 5% per year.

02.01.2022 Design Intent is exited to be working with Latrobe Council in redeveloping the Camp Banksia Site. Revitalizing the existing cabin accommodation , expanding the multipurpose Centre and creating new destination play grounds. We are looking forward to construction commencing in 2021.
