14.01.2022 What a fabulous visual solution by BBDO Dusseldorf.

11.01.2022 And I swore I'd never go back into publishing! These were such fun times! The three of us working days at Melbourne Theatre Company and evenings setting up Purple Egg. Getting that first diary out was a real labour of love and a great bonding experience for a partnership that lasted many years. So many recipes to test and taste. Wines to match. And as a designer, discovering the joy of creating books.

11.01.2022 3.5 years and 2,000 pages later, our encyclopaedia of Australian aviation, Volume 2, hits the shelves. I can still remember the call from Gino, a printer friend, asking if I’d be interested in helping a 90 year old war ace finish a book he was working on. With a love for book design and a teenage fascination for aircraft, I agreed to meet this renowned aviator. We got on well. Keith had a keen, but dry sense of humour, a compelling, intense passion for his subject and severa...l gongs to his name. Because of the subject matter and this fascinating author, I took the project on. I’d recently had the odd quiet period and this would also fill in some gaps between regular client projects. Little did I know I would become Keith’s part-time carer, as he ping-ponged between his home, hospitals and rehab centres with various physical and mental ailments. As his faculties started dwindling it became trickier to get the answers I needed and the project slowed. Getting to understand his expectations and way of thinking, enabled us to keep going. Our weekly meetings initially at his home, were being convened in hospital facilities across Melbourne’s inner-South. In July this year after a final edit by one of Keith’s sons, this extensive compendium was packaged up and off to print. My work was complete! 3 months later, it is printed, bound and boxed. Keith received the first copy off the press and sounds very happy with it, though he has requested a meeting to rearrange the content for the next edition. I’m sure his shiny-new copy is already covered in red biro! ‘And there’s also Volumes 3 and 4 to produce’, he sparks up. Because of COVID lockdown, I haven’t seen Keith for 3 months now, though we talk on the phone most weeks. He’s been planning different ways to escape from his aged-care penitentiary. His current scheme is to 'marry one of the lovely nurses and move in with her. It may come with added benefits’, he tells me with a cheeky grin. If you know of anyone interested in the books, email: [email protected] Tell them I sent you!
