25.01.2022 KITCHEN SKETCH: This project required some clever design technique as the kitchen is located in a Multi-Unit complex which meant it was impossible to move services. While maintaining the location of the existing services, we managed to double the storage capacity within the new kitchen and provide substantially more bench space for a relatively small kitchen.... Clean Simple colour pallet to integrate harmoniously in with the existing finishes of the Unit, coupled with the durability of stone benchtops. See more

24.01.2022 I was lucky enough to be apart of the design and documentation team for the new FOXWELL STATE SCONDARY COLLEGE at Coomera that has just opened on 29th Jan this year! Its very exciting to see the Junior school precinct fully completed. Thanks to the amazing team at Open Architecture Studio https://www.openarchitecture.studio/team who lead the Design. It was a time driven project to design and complete construction for the beginning of the School year - but they did an amaz...ing job to bring it home! It looks amazing, with fantastic feedback from the principle and students! 24.01.2022 GET TO KNOW.... Marissa - Our amazing Design Director! Since we have finally have our Facebook page up and running, we thought we should probably introduce you to the one and only owner & Design Director herself, Marissa!... Did you know that Marissa was actually born and raised right here in Gladstone? Venturing off to Brisbane at the age of 17 to study Architecture at QUT. Thats right! Marissa is no stranger to Gladstone! In-fact her first Architectural job was right here in Gladstone with John Bright Architects way back in 2006 in her 2nd year of Uni, before heading back to Brisbane to complete her study. She worked full time around uni studies in several different firms, before finding the right fit for her at Liquid Blu Architects. At Liquid Blu, Marissa worked her way up through the ranks to become Senior Designer, Senior Documenter, Interior Designer, new employee trainer and Revit Manager... many roles! But her favorite part of working with this award winning Architectural firm was that she got to work on projects from her home town region! Rockhampton 2nd world war Memorial Aquatic Centre, Yeppoon Lagoon, Blackwater Aquatic Centre just to name a few. Marissas dreams of bringing clients architectural and interior designs to life was what pushed her to start her own amazing firm. And so, Design Spice was born in 2017. Her #1 passion is great design - Inside and out! For a little insider information on Marissa, weve asked her few questions that are a little more personal... We would love to see your answers too! 23.01.2022 There is something soothing about choosing colours! HINT!: When choosing colours you should always work outside or near a clear glass window in natural light! (but not direct sunlight - or you will get blinded by the reflections.. trust me!) This way you can start to see the undertones in the paint and what colours work best with other colours in your scheme. NEVER choose your colours under artificial lighting OR if its overcast!! ... If youre still having trouble choosing your colours Design Spice can definitely help you out!

21.01.2022 DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: Here is a behind the scenes look at a designer’s life! Sketches for Days!... Your designer puts a lot of time and effort into developing hand sketches of your project before it gets modelled and placed on plans for you to review. Hours are spent manipulating rooms, shapes and sizes to get a concept design to come to life because we care about what we deliver to our clients. Keep this in mind when considering a designers turn-around time on your house plans.

Its your designers job to know how to read these & can work with your engineers to make sure that you get the best outcome - both design wise & cost wise - for your project!... There is often loads of co-ordination that goes on behind the scenes of architecture and design, & working along Engineering and other design consultants is just part of the job! Some of the Engineer types weve worked with in the past include....Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Hydraulic Engineers, Landscape Architects, Interior Designers, Civil Engineers, Building Certifiers, Surveyors, Geotech Consultants, Town Planners, Heritage Architects, Horticultural engineers.... So many! So dont be afraid to talk to your designer about who you might need on your next project!

07.01.2022 WE ARE BACK!! So, there are some of you who might have known that just before Covid-19 restrictions came into play, Design Spice had just moved into their new little office in Goondoon St, Gladstone. We were so excited, that we forgot to post about it at the time... and then, well... we kinda had to go back to working from home for a while. BUT NO LONGER!... We are back in the office, and it feels great! You can now find Design Spice in the heart of Gladstones City at 172 Goondoon st, Gladstone. Right next to Fresh Fix, inside the Zone Planning office! Design Spice is a Building Design and Interior Design firm that has been in business now for almost 3 years! (Very proud!)... 04.01.2022 ROCKHAMPTON CHURCH CONVERSION: I was super excited when I was approached to work on a church conversion right here in Central Queensland, in Rockhampton. This beautiful old church is to be transformed from its former place of worship to its new owners forever home. ... Due to the Heritage listing over the site, it wasnt just a straight forward project. Both myself as a designer and the owners wanted to make sure that this historical, beautiful building maintained its history and the design (and construction) respected the fabric of the existing building. Careful, clever and creative design was needed to make sure this stunner could be transformed without loosing its soul. The project is currently in full swing, but here is a sneak peak! And as you can see, it takes hours of sketching, challenging & testing different options, different layouts and positioning, before we come to the final design that we present to you, the client.... But for me thats the fun part & a huge part of what I love most about my job! So many ideas...
