25.01.2022 Have you ever bought a garment off the peg, on sale (actually at a huge reduction) and loved it so much you want another one - perhaps in another colour? I picked up this blue and white pin stripped linen frock for a ridiculous price last week. I just loved the cut, the simple lines, the cool comfort and effortless style so decided I needed to make another. I folded the dress in half down the centre front then pinned the side seams and armholes together. I cut the new dress ...from some amazing orange checked gingham linen that I purchased last September while I was at Ace Drapers in Roma. The minute I clapped my eyes on the fabric I knew it was destined for something special. I included the same zip closure on the upper back but made my dress a tad longer, included some top stitching AND added pockets....... because every dress is better with pockets. I’m thinking this dress will transition well across seasons with the addition of a light weight T-shirt underneath or a little cardigan on top. I did cut a paper pattern as well - as I think I might be making a few more of these...... might also be nice in chambray or even a light weight denim. #ilovetosew #imadeitmyself #mytwohands #getcreative #linendress #draftapattern #sewunique #pocketsplease #makemineorange #sewing #sewtime #bernina #lookwhatimade #mynewdress #gingham #mydesign #orangecheck #ginghamlinen #topstitching

22.01.2022 TBT - a few favourites from the archives. Basket coiling can be rather time consuming BUT the results are fabulous. The benefits can’t be underestimated either - it’s such a wonderful slow mindful craft - it can’t be hurried and I find I’m transported to a place where I can ponder, contemplate, relax and unwind. Hoping to have some spare time over the coming weeks where I can indulge in this favourite pastime! #basket #basketcoiling #raffia #raffiabasket #mybusyhands #getcreative #imadeitmyself #textileart #passmyneedle #coilingtime #metime #slowmindful

21.01.2022 Lino blocks are very versatile - they can be just as fun to use creating unique cards and gift tags as they are for fabric printing. The only limitation is your imagination. More workshops coming in 2021 .... watch this space for dates and locations. #lino #linoblock #printing #workshop #brisbaneworkshops #letmeteachyou #imadeitmyself #learnnewthings #getcreative #busyhands #paintandpaper #handmade #handmadecards

20.01.2022 Promise of a fruitful new year. While life has been busy with unexpected family commitments, Mother Nature just keeps quietly doing her thing. The passion fruit vines that lay dormant through the winter months have come alive and are bursting with new growth. An abundance of flowers suggests a bumper crop over the coming weeks. Sometimes it’s these little reminders that make us realise that the simple things in life are usually the best. ... #mygarden #keepitsimple #metime #goodriddance2020 #newlife #newgrowth #vine #passionfruit #homegrown #fruit #bounty #watchitgrow #greenisgood

17.01.2022 Do you sign and date your work? I’ve always included my name and date on my pieces - whether it’s a patchwork quilt, an embroidery or a cross stitch. These 2 framed pieces caught my eye this morning and I realised I lovingly stitched them 30 years ago! I remember seeing the cross stitch patterns and falling in love with them immediately. I made these to hang in my baby girl’s bedroom (@louisewrightphoto recently turned 31) and they’ve been hanging in my home ever since. I wa...s drawn to the colour, the intricate design and the fun little characters. Seems like my taste hasn’t changed much over the years - the mat board I chose when they were professionally framed in 1991 is nearly identical to my current living room feature wall. I hope someone else will gaze at these in another 30 years and think nice work Karen! #lookehatimade #passmemyneedle #getcreative #ilovetomakestuff #embroidery #crossstitch #framedart #mydesign #stitchit #aidacloth #dmcthreads #myhome #wallart #imadeitmyself #busyhands #formygirl

16.01.2022 Mission Completed! My most recent punch needle project is finished. I’m happy with the results and I just need to find a special spot in my home for it to hang or sit. For those interested, here’s the process:... 1. I purchased a cheap canvas (the appropriate square size to accommodate the embroidery) from the $2 shop 2. Removed the canvas and used the canvas as my template 3. Chose a complimentary cotton duck cloth and cut out the template size 4. Measured and cut out another piece of fabric slightly larger than the embroidery hoop ring 5. Centred the fabric circle face down on the square fabric template 6. Pinned and stitched the fabric together 7. Trimmed away the centre 2 panels of fabric (inside my stitching) 8. Nicked the edges then turned through the fabric circle which acts as a facing 9. Press and then position and pin the punch needle embroidery in place 10. Stitch - I used upholstery thread and a denim machine needle 11. Position frame and staple fabric on all@sides ensuring even tension Voila...... job done! #punchneedle #embroidery #punchneedleembroidery #lookehatimade #ilovetomakestuff #handmade #mytwohands #getcrafty #amyoxfordpunchneedle #wallart #mydesign #passmemyneedle #textile #sewunique #woolembroidery #whatwillimakenext #imadeitmyself

12.01.2022 Today was all about my gorgeous girl @louisewrightphoto ..... we enjoyed a fabulous lino block printing session to celebrate her birthday tomorrow. With the aircon on and @oceanalleyband tunes playing in the background, we had a very relaxed but productive afternoon. Thanks to the lovely @ashley.watling for joining us - we all got creative and the girls printed up some amazing tea towels while I got busy with some recycled denim. I’ll be teaching this fun craft again in 202...1 - watch this space for workshop dates! #metime #mytwohands #getcreative #lino #linoblock #linen #linenteatowel #recycledfabric #whatwillicarve #crafternoon #imadeitmyself

05.01.2022 Well it’s certainly been an interesting year - full of challenges, set backs, some forced changes, new learnings and some triumphs. There’s been a few firsts with mastering Zoom workshopping - teaching people near, far and even overseas. I’ve become the master of pick, pack and post with an increase in on line sales and I’ve learned to adapt and be ready for what might come next.... I’d like to thank everyone who supported my small business, the like minded creatives who workshopped with me (virtually or in person), the peeps who purchased my wares and for every social media like and follow - this truly makes me smile I’ll be taking a break until the end of January and look forward to more creative goodness in 2021. I’m finishing up 2020 with an awesome secondhand purchase (you all know I love to recycle, reuse, repurpose) - I scored a replacement sewing tray for my Bernina 801 (much loved since 1979) which was looking well used and very worn. I’ll be kicking back like the little Elf - spending a few weeks with family and friends and maybe doing a little sewing and lazing around with a book on my face! Merry Christmas everyone!

03.01.2022 STOCK DROP ALERT I’m very pleased to announce a new collaboration with @khdesignsau in Brendale.
