13.01.2022 Llyod Morey's tribute-"Des Noble was a founding member of the Suzuki Trailbike Club, which was later renamed the Trail and Enduro MCC. Sadly Des Noble was killed at Claremont Speedway on December 17th. 1971, event 5, Heat 1, Mortlocks Solo Handicap, about 9 months after forming the club. Oddly Des’s racing colours were Red and Gold, the same as the T & E’s club colours. The Des Noble Two Day is not run each year because he was a founding member but because he was such a great person. He helped many people into the sport of motorcycle racing in different forms, he helped with mechanical problems and he helped with advice. A lot of riders owe their success to this man. I have never met anybody who did not like him and the Two Day was a way of ensuring he will always be remembered."
12.01.2022 With thanks to Mike Thorpe here is some information on the riders you will see on the ABC Byford Trial video at the Club's 40th Anniversary on 14th November. Bi...ll Young was a motorcycle dealer and father of Geoff (a State Championship Winner). He was the oldest trials rider when Mike joined the club in 1965. In those days he rode a 500T Norton and had ridden trials in England. While there was supported by the Norton factory. Mike always considered Bill to be the father of trials in WA. Dave Hurst was the current Australian Trials Champion at the time. He won the title in 1969 at Byford. It was the first time the National Trials Championships had been held in WA. Dave came first on a BSA, Bill was second on his Norton and Mike was third on his Triumph Tiger Cub. Together they won the team award. Dave was a founding member of Pathfinders and now into his eighties, he lives in Coolgardie. Des Noble was a very respected speedway rider who road trials in the speedway off season. Sadly he was killed while competing at a Friday night speedway meeting at Claremont Showground. Des was also a member of the Trail and Enduro club. After he died the T & E started an enduro named The Des Noble Two Day. It is still being run today. Des was inducted into the MWA Hall of Fame in 2014. Kevin Russell was a great all rounder - Moto Cross first, Speedway, Enduro and Trials. He rode at the Australian Classic Moto Cross Championships down south last month and did very well in his class. He is 76 years old. Terry Oakes was only 14 when he competed at Byford riding a 250cc Royal Enfield. His latest ride was at this year's Charity Trial. Come and meet and greet old friends, competitors and members at the Club's 40th Anniversary Lunch at Tumbulgum Park, South West Highway, Byford on Saturday 14th November - BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL AND CLOSE 15th OCTOBER (to Steve Scragg). 11.30am start Saturday 14th November. 2015 Members free entry and BBQ lunch. Guests $25 each - kids under 8 free!
