25.01.2022 "Open it... it may lead you someplace you never expected." ~ Anonymous When you open your @magic_abalone gift boxes, get ready to be transported into beautiful and wild coastal waters of South-Western Australia, where a prized delicacy awaits. With two products Dried Greenlip and Wild Roei Abalone - Magic Abalone sought to impress upon the global market their superior quality.... Packaging and presenting their products in luxurious gift boxes that not only tells a story but also showcase the Abalone's size and quality was the way to impress! So our @dessein_graphics team designed and brought into life a gift box that not only contains the Abalone but also lead customers to a new place, a world where all the magic of diving, finding and packaging this highly prized shellfish happens. Each gift box has a two or three layered element to it, so that customers can enjoy the experience of opening one, two and three surprises when they open their box. Each box also opens differently. One begins with a slipcover and the other opens like a book both revealing the full image of the wild, pristine coastline before opening once more to reach the abalone. The boxes all feature gold foil to extend that feeling of luxury that is associated with @magic_abalone and UV finishes to allow for a smooth, opulent overall look and finish. 21.01.2022 One hundred years ago, in the western suburbs of Perth, an independent day and boarding school for girls opened its doors to the community. Fast forward to present day 2021, @stmarysanglicangirlsschool is celebrating a centenary of history, adventures, and stories. The @dessein_graphics team had the honour to design and produce the St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School Centenary Book - A Place to Grow. ... Capturing the spirit of the school, historian and author Richard Offen with support of Archivist, Stephanie Neille, bring the stories of the students, staff and School to life with 333 pages representing 100 years of educating girls and young women since 1921. The book shares the stories of @stmarysanglicangirlsschool progress with snapshots in time of the people, their experiences and the places which have made it happen. It was written to be easy to read and our @dessein_graphics team have followed that approach by highlighting the text with imagery, snapshots, quotes and fun snippets dispersed through the text - concentrating on enhancing the story visually. This is the final piece - beautifully printed here in Perth by Advance Press, bound and ready for reminiscing by teachers, students, alumnis, parents and the wider WA community. 20.01.2022 "Packaging can be theatre, it can create a story," ~ Steve Jobs. @magic_abalone - a highly prized product - demanded a branded package solution, one which wears its heart on its sleeve to illustrate the dedication and depths the @magic_abalone divers themselves must endure to collect them, by hand from the ocean's floor. So, our @dessein_graphics team wanted to tell the story of the Abalone's natural, wild environmenrs - it's Australian original - and the sustainable and car...eful process of collecting one of the world's best delicacies. To do that, we designed this Wild Roei Abalone box with two components that use the same layering principles of our three layer Dried Brownlip Abalone (see previous two post). Another unique drone image of the beautiful yet turbulent waters - that is home to @magic_abalone products and team members - as they pound the ancient granite rocks is used throughout this packaging. The outer unit has been designed to lock into the side and hinges from the left to open - similar to a book - to reveal the full nature image before opening once more to reach the Abalone. 19.01.2022 "The ocean, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever" ~ Jacques Cousteau There is over 6,000 km of open ocean between Cape Leeuwin and the Antarctic - where the experienced @magic_abalone specialised diving team select the abalone straight from the ocean floor - which makes the waters in the region some of the cleanest and pristine in the world. Showcasing where the magic happens - where the waters of the Oceans meet - the home of the Abalone, and the ...perils of deep diving to hand pick this ancient delicacy was something that our team knew would be a must to draw in customers to the wondrous spell of the ocean. Using drone photography, our very own Joshua Bickford was able to capture the wild coastal waters and are used throughout the @magic_abalone packaging to hero the South-Western Australian origins. The natural colour palette of the ocean are also at the forefront of the design across the range of three luxurious packaged products one for each of the three @magic_abalone varieties of Brownlip, Greenlip and Roe. When we were designing the gift range packaging for @magic_abalone - from the boxes through to this jar of Abalone Salt - we wanted to illustrate that these Abalone are a gift from not only the heart of nature but also from the dedicated deep divers, who hand pick and harvest the wild and organic Abalone. Drone imagery of the wild coastal waters unique to the region is used throughout the jar to emphas...ise "where it all begins" for @magic_abalone. Each gift package design tells Magic Abalone’s proud story and commitment to sustainable fishing, projecting their customer to experience the world beneath the turquoise waters where nature is delivering a delicacy worth waiting for. It also shows the depth of service that the team has when it comes to making Abalone accessible to all. 16.01.2022 Finding your way in the nearly 4000 hectares of Whiteman Park is a breeze, thanks to the new way finding and information signage we've proudly designed throughout the park. Want to visit Mussel Pool East and discover life below the water? Follow the light blue fingerboard sign attached to the lollipop post with the etching of the birds on a branch to get you there easily. While you're there, read fun facts about this important wetland habitat, such as... "Freshwat...er mussels which were once prolific in the area are found in the waterbody, and so it was named Mussel Pool." We've used a combination of typeface to highlight informational headings, capturing visitors' attention quickly before using an easy to read font to further engage. If you're too busy enjoying the beautiful nature that is Whiteman Park and forgot where your parked or where you've visited, don't worry! We've got you. Information maps are placed throughout the Park - look up to see the tall lollipop bright colours attached to a jarrah sign post to get your bearings. Or, why not play a fun game with friends and family members to remember the etched images of our native flora and fauna - like kangaroo paws here -that you can associate with where you've parked or visited? We've designed big, easy to read, colour-coded signs to guide you in and around the park, each with memorable graphics to help you navigate yourself and associate with where you've parked. ... The signs include everything you need to know to start off your Whiteman Park experience perfectly. At a glance you will know where you are and which amenities - toilets, BBQ area, picnic spots - are close by. Plenty of arrows to show you the way to the many attractions, and the distance to reach them. We think Whiteman Park is a Perth gem. If you're short on time and can't travel far from the city this is the ultimate day trip for families. 07.01.2022 News!! We're excited to announce that our way finding signage for Whiteman Park has won a Silver in the Graphic Design Annual 2021 Awards. Whiteman Park is a Perth institution - where countless generations of Western Australians and their families, tourists and visitors have enjoyed picnics, bush trail walks and discovered Western Australia's unique native wildlife. Our challenge was to design clearer way-finding signage which engaged visitors to make full use of the ...facilities and attractions available to them. Our creative solutions: Assigning a colour to each of the four main areas of Whiteman Park - based on their key attractions and east / west location. a series of numbered sign posts combining Jarrah bases (local hard wood) with bright, lollipop coloured tops to quickly identify car parks, its location within the park and surrounding attractions. pictorial references - of native flora, fauna and special attractions are graphically etched into the timber bases to serve as a visual reminder for children and adults alike as to where they have parked.
