25.01.2022 QUIRKY QUESTION: If you could only describe your dream hair using food or drink descriptions, what would yours be? This indulgent dessert by Jacky would be whipped vanilla cream ... Come on, Make us hungry!

25.01.2022 Would you believe that we have rescued this beautiful hair not once, but twice? We first met Kaycee when she had just come out of #isolife and had multiple bands of over processed (blue) and underdeveloped (yellow) blonde. One big stint to even it out (plus a blow dry in our storage room in the middle of winter thanks to quarantine restrictions ) and we we're back on track... ....Only to have it go green after a relaxing spa session with friends #horrorstory Anothe...r jam session (and another back room blow dry, you poor thing) and we have healthy, beautiful hair. Don't worry we made up for the cold finish, by getting Kaycee in for a complimentary blow dry so we could snap that creamy goodness. Thanks for trusting us Kaycee! Colour and cut by Jacky See more

24.01.2022 Not all balayage has to be blonde...but it should always be big and bouncy. Rocking it again @karenmaree1969 Colour and cut by @nicehairyeah

23.01.2022 Why is it that whenever you get a cute photo where you like your outfit, your skin looks great and your hair is actually sitting the way you want it....you have a hairband on your wrist??? Seriously...Every time. Am I right? Colour by Tracy @tracydoak _de_stijl_hair ... Cut by Jacky @basecolour_byjax See more

21.01.2022 HELLO 007 This beautiful client came in with an inspo picture of Olga Kurylenko from James Bond. Did Tracy nail it or what? We love when you guys come in with pictures and visuals of what you want to achieve! This helps both of us know exactly what direction we're going in -> even if its not achievable on the first day!... Comment below and tell us which celebrity hair you'd love to have at the moment

21.01.2022 Nothing quite captures what we're all about like this transformation here. Adele came to us with a very brassy balayage-attempt that didn't quite have the wow-factor she was looking for. The lighten ends hadn't really gone passed the orange phase, all the underneath was actually coloured back to black and there was no money piece is sight. This meant we had to treat every section of her hair differently: lightening some areas to remove brass and add pop, darkening other...s where there wasnt any contrast and toning it all to look cohesive. Two major sessions of corrective colour work and a lot of laughs later , we resurrected this gorgeous gal just before she had to return to Melbourne! What do you love most about this colour by @basecolour_byjax ? See more

20.01.2022 Angie @angiewasclaridge came in for a mammoth session to create this bronde balayage just 10 days before welcoming her daughter Sylvia Jane into the world With two beautiful girls at home and a couple of businesses, she doesn't have time for a high maintenance colour, so we designed a look that can be updated within small 2 hour appointments. We love the challenge of creating looks that work with your lifestyle or budget while making you feel amazing in the process.... Lets face it, we know you love us but that doesnt mean you have to feel like you live here. Congratulations of your new arrival Ange and we cant wait to meet her! Colour and cut by Jacky

20.01.2022 HANDS UP: Who looks forward to the down time of the salon? A few hours of lattes, magazines, social catch ups, massages and sitting down - knowing there's no where else you should be. The hair is just the bonus!

20.01.2022 PRECISION BLUES Check out Isobel's steady hand as she creates a geometric dream of purple, pink and blue. Fashion colours like these usually take 4-5 hours in the salon to create and come with homework - yes, you heard that right! We teach you how to wash it, rinse it, style it and generally how to care for it so its lasts. For example, did you know that the heat from your shower is the biggest killer of these vibrant tones?... Hope your keeping up with your studies, because there will be a test at your next appointment, Annette!

20.01.2022 Things made of magic: Unicorns, Christmas, New Years Dreams ....and @ailishdavison #pastelpink hair. Colour by @basecolour_byjax... See more

20.01.2022 This is what we call a "glazed blonde" - We use this technique when you want to look naturally, bright blonde with very minimal variation in tones. For those that really hate to see "stripes". You cant see where the foils come from and your can't see any of your natural depth but you don't have to worry about having a strong regrowth line when you grow it out either. Sound too good to be true? The base breaker, where we lift and warm up your natural hair to remove the flatnes...s and depth, also allows for a quick 15 minute basin service in between appointments! Full proof. Colour and cut by Jacky

19.01.2022 TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY >>> SWIPE FOR THE BEFORE With her birthday on the following week, Danielle came in for the ultimate glow up! A creamy lived in blonde on a power bob is the best present to give yourself. Plus hanging with us for four hours isn't a bad way to get in some girl time too, right? ... We loved spending the day with her so much, we got her back in the day before her birthday for a complimentary blow-dry just to make sure she looked like the icing on the cake Hope it was a great weekend, Danielle #hairgamestrong #destijlhairsalon #destijlthatselfie #awardwinningsalon #avedaaustralia #crueltyfreehaircare #avedahairsalon #olaplex #hobarthairsalon #Blondesofhobart #platinumhair #platinumhaircolour #blondehairspecialist #blondehairspecialisthobart See more

19.01.2022 WE have a question for YOU! As a client, what would be one thing that could make your hair appointment even better? Let us know in the comments!... We vote for lolly bags that match the colour of your hair when you leave! Lara here would leave with Fairy floss obviously....are you down for that??!! 18.01.2022 PEEK-A-BOO! How much does this hair cut suit Molly? The micro fringe, the shaved panel, the blunt bob and THAT SHINE. Great job, Isobel!

18.01.2022 HOW TO SHAMPOO: Part 2 We know, we know....hot showers and Tasmanian winters are a match made in heaven but your hair - and skin- will thank you for turning the heat down just a tad! Heat activates the cuticle layer of the hair, opening it up so moisture can get in. This is great on days you're doing an intense moisture mask or really need to clean the hair, but constantly subjecting your hair to high temperatures breaks the gate so it wont close again - letting all that moi...sture out! BUT what about that final rinse with the cold water you hear all about? OK, yes it works... Is it necessary? Not really with good pH balanced professional products. Save it for summer!

17.01.2022 HOW TO SHAMPOO PART 3: Once your hair is saturated, use your index finger to draw a line down the back of you head - dividing the hair into two separate halves. Place the correct amount of shampoo (see PART 1) to the tips of your fingers and distribute it evenly on either side at the roots. Working from the nape to the front and from the centre-line out toward your ears This ensures that you are getting the shampoo where you need it - not just at the top where its... easier to reach. You'll find you'll need half as much too because its not being wasted. Now remember, this won't lather - its just about counteracting the oil and dirt (notice the lack of bubbles in Isobel's hair?) Comb it through with your fingers for a minute, scrub from the inside to the outside, then rinse but be gentle. Your hair is at its most vulnerable when wet. Keeping the middle part means the hair can flow easily with the water while rinsing and wont get tangled. NOW GET READY FOR ROUND TWO! See more

17.01.2022 HOW TO SHAMPOO PART 5: How often should I shampoo? We hear it all the time and the truth is...how ever much you like! But there's a catch! Its all about what you do when you wash it and how you treat your hair after! The De stijl team all like to stretch their routine out to ONCE A WEEK. Yes, you heard that right!... Over cleansing can create more oil, irritation and damage. If you have fine hair and wash it daily, your hair will weaken from increased stimulation when wet and become depleted of natural protective oils and proteins. This means your hair will look even oiler as it tries to feed itself moisture and will most likely appear thinner. This goes for everyone. The more you wash, the more you need to! Lets not forget, that your hair is also at its weakest when wet, so why push your luck? You also shouldn't put heat from a blow-dryer on it more than twice a week and only straighten/curl it once a week (with a heat protectant of course). So if you like to style it straight after washing, try stretching it out one more day with dry shampoo instead. Lets take a poll: How often do you shampoo? See more

17.01.2022 HOW TO SHAMPOO PART 4: Now we're on to the step that does aaaaaallll the work.... the one that bubbles... the hero of the process...SHAMPOO NUMBER TWO and the sulfates that make it work. Just in case you missed it in parts 1 through 3 - WASH. YOUR HAIR. TWICE. Please? ... So what are sulfates? They are what makes your hair lather and bubble removing dirt and oil and they soften the cuticle layer of your hair so active ingredients in your products can penetrate better. We stock both versions because we believe that there isn't a "one-size-fits-all". For example, did you know oily hair can be caused by using a sulfate-based shampoo (because its too stimulating) or because its sulfate-free (and too heavy)? When we choose to use sulfate-based surfactants derived from tropical oils like coconut oil, we believe they are the best choice to provide the product’s desired end benefit. Aveda only uses gentle sulfate-based surfactants, and Aveda does not use sodium lauryl sulfate. We recommend these cleansers for thick hair, straight hair, those who gym or play sports, teenagers or people who shampoo every three days or more. Sulfate free is better suited to curly hair, damaged or dry hair, those who suffer from contact dermatitis, daily scrubbers and children. Confused? Don't worry, just ask us at your neext appointment. Which one do you prefer? Do you struggle to find the right products?

17.01.2022 1 HOUR DOWN >>> 3 TO GO We hear it all the time: "It will only take 2 hours, right?" Ahhhh, wrong. As much as we try to get our clients back to their normal lives quickly, sometimes giving you your dream hair takes a bit of time. In fact, because Aveda is chock full of so much goodness, it processes just a little slower than colours with harsh chemicals. ... As a general guide, if you havent been to see us since pre-COVID, looking for a fabulous change, its your first time or you're wanting to be blonde or balayaged, allow up to 4 hours. We want your hair to be the best its ever been, so we dont rush or skip over anything like treatments and toners. But don't worry, Uber Eats delivers and the coffee is always hot See more

17.01.2022 Its the remix... We posted this beauty already but from another angle...can you guess which one and who did it? The first correct answer gets....um....hmmm...

13.01.2022 TO FLIP OR SWIPE New year...New magazine subscriptions! You've been asking us for your daily dose of gossip and fashion to be returned. Would you rather be able to flick through the pages as you have your hair done OR online copies where you can swipe to your hearts content? ... 13.01.2022 Its time turn that volume up! The @GHDhair rise hot brush delivers kind-to-hair styling and enviable volume from root to tip. 12.01.2022 No that's not a Christmas bauble you see there... But it might just be your New Years Eve resolution! At De Stijl, we place huge emphasis on your body being the most important tool you have as a hairdresser and as a woman. This is why all our staff have access to education, training and the equipment needed to strengthen and stretch our bodies to handle the busy days on our feet. We recently filmed an instructional video with @when.australia and @3degreespilates so we ...could get our message of safe movement out to the wider hairdressing community. What exercises do you do at the end of a busy day to make sure you can keep going back? Is this something your workplace encourages? See more

12.01.2022 WELCOME TO OUR "HOW TO SHAMPOO" Series. Every week we will take you through another step of the process and blow your mind as you discovery you've been doing it WRONG all these years... On the left is how much shampoo you SHOULD use - regardless of your hair density, length or type. On the right is what most people use. One of the first things we teach clients on their first appointment is how to shampoo properly. Did you know two small shampoos are better than one big c...leanse? The first shampoo will dislodge old skin, dissolve oil, remove product and WONT LATHER! The second shampoo will do all the work actually cleaning the hair. If you shampoo only once, all the product and oil stick together - getting stuck in the hair during rinsing and leaving you hair to get oily faster. Most importantly, leave any hair longer than your neckline, SHAMPOO FREE - the combination of water and bubbles running down your lengths as you rinse is enough to clean it! This stops tangles from happening and drying out your fragile ends too much. Did you already know this or did it surprise you? Are you going to check in weekly to find out more? Let us know!

12.01.2022 Is anyone setting goals this year? Or are we all just skipping that this time, since it worked out SOOOO well for us this year In all seriousness, we had goal to get our social media looking in 2020. It goes to show you that even in a year with so much unpredictability, when you’re working hard, you can still achieve what you put your mind to!... What do you guys think of how our online portfolio looks (<- sounds so fancy, right?) Colour and cut by @basecolour_byjax See more

12.01.2022 A DIFFERENT KIND OF BEFORE AND AFTER: Rosalie recently came out of quarantine and had a major change -> beautiful mix of pinks, reds and peaches. She loved it, we loved it...but Rosalie has decided to start moving into blonde hair with her natural hair in between um...what? Don't worry, we are all for it! Why? Because Rosalie loves playing with colour, enjoys the journey and trusts us to deliver great hair no matter what (And we know she'll look great no matter wh...at shade she rocks!) So stage one, was getting rid of the red - one of the hardest tones to remove from hair! We cooled down the root colour and started lifting the ends up as light as we could but there was a lot of residual warmth. To tie the old with the new, the warmth with the cool tones, we glossed it with a pastel peach just for fun - This fashion colour will fade over the next few weeks ready to go for round two. Which colour do you prefer? Colour and cut by Jacky

11.01.2022 You’ve never worked unless you’ve worked as a hairdresser in DECEMBER It’s true, it can get a little crazy in the salon during the holidays, but we also enjoy the thrill of digging deep and seeing how much you appreciate us!... This year has shown us how lucky we are to be able to do our job and serve our clients, especially when so many hairdressers nationally were not able to do so. We couldnt image how Northern Beaches businesses, staff and clients must feel right now. What has this year made you appreciate about your work life? See more

11.01.2022 It’s that time of year where everyone wants to go brighter and lighter. We feel the summer coming (well I'm sure its JUST AROUND the corner....) and want to get rid of the winter blues by literally colouring over it! We are right there with you...However... What we're finding at the moment is that you're not letting us know when you book in that you want to shake things up...or that your hair is down to your waist...or you haven't been in 6 months. AHHHH! We are curr...ently booked out until end of January so every minute counts and we just don't have the time at the moment to fit in that extra pop of blonde. We hate to leave people disappointed, so please give us as much information as you can when you book so we can give you, and other clients booked in on the day, the best service possible! 09.01.2022 Whenever we are in the salon you can bet there's a scented candle alight somewhere. We like it for the peaceful ambience it brings our clients at the basin, as Shampure's signature scent washing over them during our calming head massage (did we set up the perfect scene or what?) Did you know there's more to burning a candle than just decoration? They can also trigger memories, help you focus (>> try our Rosemary and Mint Candle <<), improve your mood, stabilise sleep and alleviate stress. 09.01.2022 Move over french-inspired curtain fringe, the micro fringe is back. This full but textured look is best styled to the side and with soft edges. Think Emma Watson and Zoë Kravitz.... 09.01.2022 When a client asks us to be blonde, we ask them if they want to whisper, speak or shout it from the roof tops! Shannon wanted to go for the full marching parade because why the hell not?! We love doing all over scalp lighteners like this because, if we're being honest, we're just really good at it. Can you believe that Shannon used to have waist length, copper hair?
