01.01.2022 Step into our hometown of Great Western and meet the locals with Best’s Wines special series honouring some of our local heroes. As bushfire season officially starts this month it is a timely reminder of the hard work our local CFA volunteers put in to keep us safe. Both Ben and Hamish Thomson are volunteers and pictured here is Dustin Barry Captain of the Great Western #cfavic . Dusty was born and raised in Great Western, he first joined the CFA in 1999 and worked his way th...rough the ranks becoming Captain in 2014. Dusty is a member of the Great Western Racing Club committee and volunteers every year at the Rodeo. He is also a #bestswines Magnum Club member who married his beautiful wife Ash at Best’s in 2009. At this time we’d also like to take this opportunity to honour CFA members, Vern and Chris who have been vital to the operations of the Great Western CFA for more than 50 years. Vern has been a brigade member for 50 years and the region’s spotter for 28 years. He sits on Big Hill in Stawell every day and every night during the summer months ensuring any bushfires are sighted and reported to the local brigade captains. Chris has been a brigade member for 45 years and the secretary/treasurer for 35 years and integral to the operations of our local CFA branch. #destinationgreatwestern @BestsWines See more
