24.01.2022 Challenges for parents of premature babies. From the article: "Around a year after my baby was home - just as he came off his oxygen support - I had a very powe...rful, vivid and crippling flashback that made me realise that I had been suppressing many symptoms of PTSD." New research by the charity Bliss has found that 62% of parents of premature babies reported they had no access to formal psychological support, such as counselling or talking therapies, while their baby was on a neonatal unit. Of the survey of 589 parents, 16% of parents were diagnosed with PTSD after their time on the neonatal unit." It can be so hard for parents of premmies to access support amidst the whirlwind they can find themselves in. In light of this, it is so good to see the emotional impact of a premature birth be acknowledged. We have a section in our book How to Heal a Bad Birth - making sense, making peace & moving on specifically for mothers whose baby was premature. There is so much that can impact families in this situation, from the initial shock and worry in finding out they will be birthing early, to dealing with health carers in an emergency situation, to the aftermath and going home alone, and the ongoing effects of all this on their emotional well-being. Glad to see this being brought to light, and thank you to Bliss for undertaking this vital research. #birthtrauma is real. #itispossibletoheal Read more about our book at http://howtohealabadbirth.com

We searched for something to encourage speech and found Gemiini! She adores all the signs & animal sounds. And we are even seeing her copying the sounds of the words she is learning. She is blooming right before our eyes. We are excited to see how far this program will take her." Learn more at Gemiini.org

12.01.2022 Can you heal from a traumatic birth without having another baby? That's a great question, and so important. The short answer is YES...and here's why : H...ealing from a bad birth is about : 1 making sense of what happened in the birth 2 developing a new understanding about birth and what makes a birth good or bad 3 learning about how a bad birth can impact a woman. It's also about making peace with what happened, which is only really possible once you have made sense of the experience. And we’ve found that making peace involves processing the various emotions that often accompany a bad birth including : sadness guilt feelings of failure isolation anger. Making peace can involve exploring relationship issues with your partner as a result of the birth, too. And then it's about moving on, and coming to a new place. Importantly : NONE OF THESE STEPS INVOLVE BIRTHING AGAIN. We have supported many women who were not having more babies, and they have gone back to their families more at peace, feeling more connected to their children and their family, and more present and complete. We even have a chapter in our book called " Do I need to have another baby to heal the previous birth?" (and the short answer is : No!). Our book is divided into sections designed to guide you through the above process of *making sense * making peace and * moving on. And there is also a section on birthing again for women who are considering another child, but that is not the focus of the book - HEALING is the focus And healing is possible. @Birthtalk.org Our book How to Heal a Bad Birth is available in paperback and ebook at http://howtohealabadbirth.com #birthtrauma #howtohealabadbirth #doula #caesarean #cesarean #women #mums #moms #birthing #PTSD #PPD #PND #VBAC #birth #childbirth #psychology #psychologist #mentalhealth #womensmentalhealth #postpartum #postpartumrecovery #postnatal #postnatalrecovery #perinatal #perinatalmentalhealth
