25.01.2022 What a great opening Day! Thank you to everyone who came out for the race, and thank you to our wonderful volunteers in the race box, in the canteen and bar, and in the rescue boats.
23.01.2022 Just 21 sleeps until opening day! We are pleased to release our calendar for the 2020/2021 sailing season. We would also like to remind everyone that while we are all very excited to start sailing again, it is absolutely crucial that we all do our part to keep Tassie’s COVID-19 cases at 0. The club will be taking multiple sanitisation measures, but we can only do so much. Please remember to continue to keep 1.5 metres between yourself and others in public. If you are experie...ncing any cold or flu symptoms, please stay home and get tested. We can’t wait to see you all back on the water! See more

22.01.2022 We are very pleased to be (finally!) hosting the Mirror State Titles of 2020. We will be hosting a Sabre regatta in conjunction with these titles, please see below the Notice of Race for the regatta. Anyone intending on participating in the Sabre regatta may register at the link below, however Mirror entries need to be done through the International Mirror Dinghy Class Tasmania. See you all this weekend!

19.01.2022 Opening day is TOMORROW! We can’t wait to have you all back at the club From this season onwards, we will be asking that all members and visitors of the club follow the attached Code of Conduct. This is in an effort to ensure that our club environment is safe and welcoming to all individuals. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message us!
19.01.2022 THE GEORGE TOWN TO DEVIOT SAFARI IS HERE Starting times will be staggered from approximately 12pm, to ensure we all arrive at Deviot at approximately the same time. Send us a message if you need a hand organising a lift or trailer transportation! Please see the Notice of Race and online entry here: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/deviotsc/events/79927/
19.01.2022 Ahoy mateys! It would appear as though we are land-bound for the next little while, and DSC social nights are off. We plan to have the annual dinner as soon as such a gathering is allowed, but it is highly unlikely that it will go ahead on the planned date (31st of May). There are a few upcoming projects we are looking at, mainly some maintenance on the lower boat shed roofing, as well as the installation of a bollard in front of the roller door to prevent boat theft. We ma...y do some fundraising for these if we are able to, but we would appreciate any and all (tax deductable!) donations made, don't forget the end of the financial year is coming up! Donations can be made here: https://asf.org.au/projects/deviot-sailing-club/ See more
18.01.2022 Good morning everyone! Happy opening day

15.01.2022 Newsflash! Mirror Class Legends David and Jenny Graney to compete in 2020 Mirror States at DSC. The fleet at the Mirror State Championship to be held at Deviot SC this weekend may be small in number but will contain at least two bona fide Tasmanian class legends. Jenny Graney and Zoe Cowles from KBSC will compete for the championship in Carpe Diem and David Graney also from KBSC will compete in the new Single Handed Categogy sailing Moya, a beautifully preserved classic Mirror currently owned by Caitlin Clippingdale. This Regatta represents a rare opportunity for Northern Mirror sailors to compete with and learn from such great sailors! End
15.01.2022 As opening Day is almost upon us, we would like to remind everyone of the necessary steps we must take to reduce the risk of the possible spread of coronavirus. EFTPOS is now available at the club! This is now the preferred method of payment, however we still accept cash. If you are paying cash we ask you to please keep a tab of your purchases and make one payment at the end of the day. Markers are now clearly visible inside the club to indicate where to stand when que...uing at the canteen or sitting at the bar. Please keep 1.5 meters between yourself and others at all times, inside and outside of the club. Please sanitise your hands regularly, as you enter the club, and before you sign on or off for racing. If you are feeling unwell, or exhibiting ANY cold or flu symptoms, please stay home, a sail certainly won’t make you feel any better! We are very much looking forward to having you all back!
13.01.2022 ATTENTION DSC MEMBERS Don't forget about our Annual General Meeting this Saturday, 1400 hrs, at the club! Notice has been sent out via email. See you all there! Due to the current restrictions in place, the meeting will be held outdoors to allow for sufficient social distancing, so don't forget a jacket!
12.01.2022 MIRROR STATES RESULTS And here they are! It was a tough weekend for all sailors, with light conditions yesterday countered with whatever the wind was doing today, to say it was shifty would be an understatement. Speed machine and Mirror legend Jenny Graney seized the weekend and took home the title of Mirror State Champion for 2020 with her crew Zoe Cowles, in Carpe Diem. Despite battling some tricky conditions and plain old bad luck on Sunday, Caitlin Cliplingdale and R...ose Landon came second overall and as well as first in the Junior division, in All Fired Up. New to the helm, Leelah Jacobs managed to secure third overall, and first in the Youth division. Leelah showed great perseverance, battling the strongest conditions she's helmed in so far. Leelah was in Kamikaze, with Johanna Cameron as crew, and we can't wait to see her getting stronger and more confident at the helm! Congratulations to Aiden Tripathi and Rob Bastick for their resilience and improvement over the weekend, which led to them taking out the win on Handicap in Dual Force. First Classic Mirror went to Crikey!, helmed by Connor O'Sign and Belinda Fisher on Saturday and Sunday respectively, and crewed by Millie O'Sign and Anika Tripathi on each day, respectively. There was some fierce competition between Andrew Cliplingdale, in Hunny, and David Graney, in Moya, in the single-handed division. Andrew took the win in this division. Sadly, due to a breakage on his boat David was unable to finish racing on Sunday, but Andrew was winning before this happened, anyway . Thank you very, very much to the incredible volunteers from both DSC and the International Mirror Association of Tasmania for running this event, and for all the advice the more experienced sailors in this class have offered our younger sailors over the years, there's definitely one now ex-Mirror sailor who's extremely grateful for everything she's learned from this class. 12.01.2022 POINT RAPID TROPHY RACE Tomorrow we have our annual race up the river to Point Rapid, and back to the club. The wind is forecast to be a lovely North/North Westerly light to moderate breeze. See you all on the water!
12.01.2022 Happy Tuesday! Fun fact: On the 9th of January, 1956, two Enterprise dinghies sailed across the English Channel from Dover (England) to Calais (France) in the middle of the night! The approximately 33 kilometre journey brought worldwide attention to designer Jack Holt, and the class remains popular to this day. Thank you to Andrew Clippingdale for the below images taken by Bob Woolhouse at the Deviot Sailing Club Enterprise championships of 1979. Sail # 11959 is believed to be sailed by our very own Roger Orr!
11.01.2022 A light day today provided our Mirror sailors with the opportunity to display their technical finesse in the water, with two races held in the morning session and all other sailing abandoned for the afternoon, as Andy sadly failed to bring in the breeze. Currently Jenny Graney, in Carpe Diem, is sitting at the top of the leaderboard in the two-handed division, with Leelah Jacobs in Kamikaze two points behind in second, and Caitlin Clippingdale in All Fired Up a further two points behind in third. David Graney is currently taking out the one-handed mirror division in Moira, with Andrew Clippingdale hot on his heels in Hunny. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the water bright and early tomorrow morning, hopefully with a bit more breeze!
11.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone! Don’t forget we have our AGM this afternoon at 2:00pm!

10.01.2022 Opening day is just 5 days away! Don’t forget to RSVP by Wednesday for the 2019-20 season trophy presentation after the official opening! RSVP to 0418 378 928 or [email protected]
07.01.2022 It's time to put the fun in Friday, and what better way than with a fun fact? All sailors (we hope) are well aware of the terms 'port' and 'starboard', but did you know that 'larboard' was actually the word originally used before 'port' replaced it? It is believed that the word 'larboard' comes from the words 'loading' and 'board', as ships were traditionally docked on their left side for loading. 'Port' is thought to have a similar meaning, but it is much easier to distinguish from 'starboard' than 'larboard'!
06.01.2022 We are so grateful for all of his work Rest In Peace.

05.01.2022 Do you know any sailors with ancraophobia? Ancraophobia (also known as anemophobia) is a fear of wind. People with this phobia also tend to fear strong weather changes, such as storms and hurricanes, as they might contain strong winds.
05.01.2022 A huge thank you to everyone who came to our working bee last Saturday. Thanks to everyone’s work, the club is now looking nice and tidy, ready for opening day this Saturday!
