25.01.2022 Malangenna participated in Genes for Jeans Day on the 7th of August. We found some old jeans and decided to decorate with bits and pieces from our art area then hung them on display.



25.01.2022 On Friday the 4th of September, Mick our Executive Director, came into the Little Tassie Devils Room and the Children flocked to him asking read book!. Mick sat down and read Dizzy Dinosaur with the Children, engaging in lots of laughing and chatter.

This not only helps support in identifying our feelings but also how to self regulate when we feel big emotions we dont always understand. 24.01.2022 Today Laughing Kookaburra's Room from Malangenna went on the Devonport Child Care bus for a community drive and visit to the mall to see the Christmas tree and panel Malangenna designed. Children travelled in small groups driving past familiar areas before walking through the mall to see the Christmas tree. Children were excited for the bus trip and were very vocal as they saw familiar places they visit with their families.

24.01.2022 At Malangenna our Bee Me children are learning to cope with change and process when something is going to finish with both visual and adult supports. By participating in 'station jobs' which is a series of set up activities, children are timed for three minutes at each station, supported by both a visual schedule and a sand timer which reinforces their understanding of when each activity is going to finish.

23.01.2022 ***DAY FOR DANIEL*** Today at Malangenna, children and educators participated in Day for Daniel. Creating awareness about keeping kids safe. ... Wearing RED and walking along Valley Road with Mini Mouse we created lots of attention from the community who were tooting horns and waving to us all.

23.01.2022 The Little Nippers Room at Elanora have been busy creating a new Winter display. The children have been exploring their sensory skills as they use their fine motor skills whilst using the paint brush to paint both their hands and paper. We made a beautiful snow man and have rugged him up with a beanie and scarf picked by the children. ... Making the snowflakes were a lot of fun as the children participated through a lot of guidance to use scissors to cut and make wonderful shapes.

22.01.2022 Super Ted One of our friends from Meercroft kindly made us a very special teddy bear who the children excitedly named Super Ted. Super Ted waved good-bye to his teddy bear friends at Meercroft and began his journey to Elanora, where he was warmly welcomed. ... Super Ted will have weekly adventures here at Elanora, which will be shared with the residents at Meercroft. Super Ted has bought the Dancing Dolphins Room lots of joy and helps keep the connection between Meercroft and Elanora.

21.01.2022 Over the past months the Little Tassi Devils have been learning cooking skills. Children turn taking, measuring, mixing and using our 5 senses, creating lots of conversations.We've developed our own cookbook,with families are sharing their recipes as well

20.01.2022 *** School Holiday Program *** Science is an important part of children's learning. Children often show educators their shining rocks they find outside or on the beach, so educators gave the children an opportunity to extend on this letting them make their own geodes using egg cartons, glue, Epsom salts and food colouring. Upon cracking open their egg carton it revealed the bright colours of their geodes.

20.01.2022 *** School Holiday Program *** Monday was a Lego Challenge Day, Educators asked the children to build a person, then a tower as high as themselves. Wow what great creations were constructed.... Lego brings creativity, team work and imagination to children with the added bonus of calmness.

17.01.2022 **Port Sorell OSHC** program have been constructing items out of wood that has kindly been donated. Car tracks and cubby houses have been the main projects. A lot of collaborative play has been involved and lots of interesting ideas. Great job by all involved.

17.01.2022 Autumn Fun at Malangenna with our Little Tassie Devils

16.01.2022 Malangenna had a special visit from Helen, who helped us celebrate NAIDOC week with sharing her knowledge and skills to teach children how to make kelp baskets. First we washed the kelp in warm water to soften. We noticed it smelt like the ocean. Once dried we chose a piece of kelp to cut into a circle, made holes and used twine to thread all the way around. We then pulled the twine tight and it turned into a basket.

16.01.2022 A busy start to the Winter School Holiday Program! Weve had Lego challenges, box work challenges, arts and crafts and outdoor time. We have added yoga to our daily program and the children have been enthusiastic to participate.... The children also have had the opportunity to decorate a mug for a Mug Cake. Here is the recipe if youd like to try at home- let us know how you go! Chocolate Mug Cake Ingredients 1/8 of a cup of flour 1 tablespoon cocoa powder 1/8 teaspoon baking powder 1 tablespoon sugar cup of milk 1 tablespoon veg oil tablespoon of chocolate chips Pinch of salt Method *Mix all your dry ingredients together *Whisk your wet ingredients together with a fork *Mix everything together making sure there are no clumps *Pour your batter into your mug and cook in the microwave for 70 seconds.enjoy!

16.01.2022 **School Holiday Program** During the program some children had the opportunity to pull apart (tinker) with old dvd players, keyboards etc. This gives the children a chance to use real tools and look at how things look on the inside of technology.... If you have anything at home in a cupboard or garage that doesn't work and you could donate, the children would appreciate it.

14.01.2022 On Friday the 31st of July we celebrated National Tree day at Malangenna. The Baby and Toddler Rooms had a pot each where they planted a herb garden that consisted of mint, parsley and coriander. The Big Room planted a tree in the bottom playground that the Children said looked like a Christmas tree

12.01.2022 The Toddler yard has now been completed and the children are enjoying the new environment , exploring the area and new equipment being the train, slide balance beams and stepping stones, helping the children grow confidence and enhance their gross motor and social skills

12.01.2022 Recently in the Little Nippers Room at Elanora we have been spending a lot of time outdoors enjoying the lovely weather. The children love to spend their time playing in the sand pit, playing in the water and exploring the cubby house. We have also in small groups been visiting our garden bed that is located in the service yard at Elanora. The children have helped dig, plant seeds and water the garden. We have planted sun flower seeds for everyone to enjoy. We all love going to visit and watch the progress our sunflowers are making.

12.01.2022 This morning at the Holiday Program a few of the older girls wanted to do some origami so Tom showed them all how to make little paper butterflies and they all loved it. All they needed were lots of paper squares and away they went, making butterflies for hours! After making so many butterflies that they covered the table they decided to go and find some small sticks to glue them to, they all looked fantastic. Great job girls

12.01.2022 Within the past few weeks the Toddler Room at Elanora have been exploring their senses through arts. They have had lots of fun getting hands on in different sensory tubs; feeling, touching and smelling. We have also seen many masterpieces created through paint, pasting, cutting and glittering. ... What creative little people we have!

11.01.2022 At Malangenna, The Laughing Kookaburras have been exploring lots of science activities. This one is called " Lava Lamp", this experiment consisted of oil, water, food colouring and Alka-Seltzer tablets. The experiment focusses on the chemical reactions and changes of the fluid. This lead to lots of inquisitive questions and conversations!!!

11.01.2022 At Elanora Babies and playdough what a fun combination. Tracey (our Certificate 111 student) introduced this today as a spontaneous activity with the group. The natural materials added a variety of textures, so much more fun than the plastic cutters.

11.01.2022 This week at Elanora we have been celebrating NAIDOC Week. The children have been involved in a number of activities and one of our families has kindly provided two didgeridoo's for our display in the centre.

11.01.2022 On Friday the 4th of December, the Elanora’s Toddler Room went on an excursion to the Pioneer park. It was very exciting getting on the bus, spotting many things along the way; The spirit, diggers, fire truck and mini boats. During our time at the park, we had a play on the pirate playground and explored the bike track. ... We took our new balance bikes from Elanora to have a turn on. We followed the arrows around, learning different road rules and which way to go. Many bikes were filled up at the petrol bowsers and washed in the car wash. What a wonderful day out exploring our community.

10.01.2022 At Malangenna, our Little Tassie Devils room children have been cooking Damper. They had lots of fun helping Educator Karen put in the ingredients, mix, knead and cut out the mixture. A learning experience that has a yummy end to enjoy!

10.01.2022 Hillcrest OSHC children have been taste testing unusual fruits. So far they have tried Papaya, grapefruit and coconut. The squeals, laughter, oohs and aahs have been very entertaining. ... Great effort from all for having a go!!

08.01.2022 *Bee Me Excursions to the Hairdressers* Bee Me Children (Malangenna and St.Giles Autism Specific Program) have been participating in excursions to Melissa Hair Artiste in Valley Road. Children are learning about road safety, being out in the community and visiting the hairdressers to say hello while exploring the environment watching clients have their hair done. ... Children have an opportunity to sit in the chairs, hear the different sounds and build relationships to support children feeling comfortable getting their haircuts.

08.01.2022 Who would of thought old tyres could be so much fun. Nixon St OSHC have had two tyres for a couple of weeks now and the children love them! They use them for all sorts of activities, including games, rolling and as seats. If anyone has a couple of larger tyres they no longer need or use, we would appreciate the donation.

08.01.2022 At Elanora, we are supporting the Devonport City Councils initiative for Seniors Week. We are asking you our families as part of the community to support their initiative by donating non-perishable food items or toiletries throughout the month of September. The donations can be made at a variety of locations around Devonport (please see notice attached) or at Elanora and we will pass these on. As you can see, we have already had a fantastic response. ... Thank you in advance.

08.01.2022 Rocks have always been an important part of a child’s life, picking them up from a garden or beach putting them in pockets so they can be washed in the washing machine, breaking them open to see the inside, painting them, Rocks have so many uses. Spreyton OSHC have started to trial their new rock tumbler machine. This process can take up to 5 days to produce polished rocks. The children were very excited to get the process started and now it’s a wait and see!!

08.01.2022 At Elanora, our Dancing Dolphins had just started visiting Meercroft when the restrictions came into place for COVID 19. To help with our children remembering our new friends at Easter time, the children did a very large Easter Bunny and took it to the residents. Last week we received a beautiful green frog painting and many letters from the residents.... For Mothers Day, our Dancing Dolphins tied ribbon around some fresh flowers. The flowers were then taken to the wonderful Mums, Grandmas and Nans. Fingers crossed it will not be much longer and we can visit again.

07.01.2022 What does winter look like to you? That was the question posed to Port Sorell OSHC children, so using their creative imagination they painted winter. Lots of concentration and chatter made for some amazing pictures.

07.01.2022 Last week our Dancing Dolphins room at Elanora was busy with a variety of Science Experiments as part of National Science Week. The children look with uncertainty as they started to mix ingredients together to form volcanoes, then surprised with the results. Oil, water and dye mixed together was mesmerising. Painting was fun in an altered format witnessing the mixing of colours. Science is in everywhere and so much fun.

06.01.2022 *** School Holiday Program*** Wednesday 11th January we were lucky to learn about Indian Culture from our Educator Rekha. Rekha bought in Indian clothes and jewellery for the children to try on and Rekha also cooked Batata Vada (potato balls) for the children to try. Rekha explained that this is a traditional street food in Mumbai.... The children also were able to have a henna tattoo on their hand or arm. A wonderful day was had by all!!

04.01.2022 Spring has sprung in the Wee Possum's Room at Malangenna with lots of creative art work exploring different mediums. We investigated our creativity with the help of sponges, brushes, fingers and hands. Flowers painted and displayed within room and a Bumblebee room collaboration displayed in hallway.

04.01.2022 A big part of the Elanora program revolves around eating! Our cook Simone is amazing! Some of the meals she prepares are the bomb. In addition, Simone goes out of her way to prepare meals for children who may require a little further support with their eating. ... What would we do without you, thank you for everything you do.

03.01.2022 At Malangenna in the Wee Possums Room our Book of the month is Wheels on the Bus. The children have been involved in role playing in the room, a display with the children and of course the learning process of song and actions.

03.01.2022 **End of an Era - Aileen's Retirement** Aileen has worked at Elanora for the past 25 1/2 years in a variety of roles from being an educator on the floor, completing administration tasks and most recently Director. Aileen is going to be missed terribly by her work colleagues (family), the children and their families.... During her time at Elanora Aileen has demonstrated amazing commitment and dedication and success in achieving many goals. She offers wonderful support to all the educators and has been successful in obtaining grants to help fund renovations to the Dancing Dolphin and Toddler's yards as well as the Kitchen. Aileen's door is always open and she always greets you with a beautiful smile on her face. We wish her all the happiness in her retirement with her family and holidays to look forward to. 03.01.2022 This week is Superhero Week at Elanora. We have focused on the real superheros in our community. Fire fighters, doctors, nurses, Mums, Dads, police and Teachers (that includes our Educators). During this Superhero week, we are collecting funds for Muscular Dystrophy. 02.01.2022 At Malangenna, the Laughing Kookaburra Room have been engaging in lots of cooking experiences. They helped make lemon cake ( using our lemons), and watermelon icypoles.

02.01.2022 Investigation and exploration within the Dancing Dolphin Room recently as we found ourselves cooking, making mini volcanos, as well as some down time during the week as we relaxed in our new lounge area where we read books and talked with our friends. We also did some sketching of the sunflowers that were grown in the garden and used our smell and touch senses to explore as we transferred them onto paper.

01.01.2022 The Babies room at Elanora celebrated world bee day yesterday (20th of May) by doing some black and yellow paintings. The children loved getting the paints out and using their fine motor skills as they used stoking motions and circles to create wonderful art. We had a small group of two, painting together communicating both verbally and non-verbally. This activity was spontaneous but child directed as the children were pointing to the paint cupboard.
