01.01.2022 NovaTears Eyedrops. - Dry Eye Relief from Meibomium Gland Dysfunction (MGD Novatears is a bit different to most other eyedrops in that it is a "waterless" eyedrop. It is still liquid, but does not have water added to it. It uses a smaller drop size that also spreads and helps substitute the oily layer of the tear film that the Meibomium glands secrete. As it has no water added, it is preservative free as well! Once opened it can be used up to 6 months. Novatears also contains Perfluorohexyloctane which has a known ability to dissolve lipids, meaning it may be able to dissolve plugs of solidified meibum in meibomian gland orifices, which has the potential to improve meibomian gland expressibility. Studies have shown this to occur with regular use in some patients.
