24.01.2022 The subject of swingers and consequences are the main theme of this thriller. Low is a teenage misfit, longing for a connection to anyone that will understand her. She starts pottery classes and meets Freya, a once popular Instagram influencer, and her husband Max. Low delights in having a friend and starts to develop an unhealthy fixation on Freya. Freya befriends another couple and manipulates them into having a wife swap in the guise of being free spirited, which Low wit...nesses. Freya ends up pregnant, which causes rifts between all parties. I wont say anymore otherwise the plot is given away, but I did enjoy the building up of the layers of angst, longing, jealously, insecurities of the parties and the slyness of Freya. One does feel sympathy for some of the characters in the book, especially Low, who just needs some normality in her life after living with very different parents. I loved this so much I am going to try her other books, The Party and The Arrangement. - Rachel See more

23.01.2022 Beautifully illustrated novel about Freddy’s relationship with her on/off girlfriend Laura Dean. Freddy loves Laura Dean but she keeps finding Laura in other girls’ arms and getting her heart broken again and again. During the relationship Freddy becomes a worse and worse friend to Doodle, her best friend, as she becomes more consumed by Laura’s orbit. I really enjoyed seeing a fictional gay relationship where the focus wasn’t on the sexual orientation of the couple but on the relationship’s effect on the main character. I finished it in one reading and would definitely recommend this to others. Crystal

21.01.2022 I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Its geared towards Young Adults but certainly was a lot of fun. Written in 1978, it won a Newberry medal ( a childrens literature award). The plot is very similar to the game of Cluedo or the film Clue. Sam Westing, a game loving millionaire has been found dead. The inhabitants of the newly constructed Sunset Towers apartment block are summoned to his property with the chance to inherit his millions as long as they are willing to play his las...t game. They are issued with random words and have to work in pairs to solve the puzzle. There are bombs, robberies and newly formed friendships all within the apartments, and it certainly makes ones head spin with the red herrings, twists and turns. I couldnt put this down. In the end you do have to admire the author, Ellen Raskin, as she wrote this with no particular ending in mind, the plot unfolded before her as she wrote it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loved Tim Curry in the film of Clue or loves a good puzzle. - Rachel See more

19.01.2022 What does a British ambassador, a Harley street doctor, and a Bangladeshi refugee camp have in common? Illegal surrogacy in this case. This fictional novel delves into the underbelly of surrogacy. A journalist finds cryptic messages in clothes made in Bangladesh and British parents who will do anything to have a child even if someone else’s life is at stake. This book talks about current surrogacy laws around the world and touches upon baby Gammy, an Australian surrogacy baby with Down Syndrome who was left overseas. This book is jam packed with edge of your-seat-plots and moments. I highly recommend this novel. - Rachel

15.01.2022 This is such an enjoyable film. Im a big fan of Wes Anderson and this one is a classic. A former lobby boy from the famous Grand Budapest Hotel recounts the adventures he had with the hotels entertaining and flamboyant concierge, Monsieur Gustav H. The death of a frequent hotel visitor embroils Zero and Monsieur Gustav in a fight over a giant family fortune and a priceless painting (Boy With Apple). Throw into the mix some murder, romance and comedy and you have a great film for the weekend! - Phoebe
