19.01.2022 ~CLOSING IN ONE WEEK~ Home Is Where The 'Art Is An exhibition of works created through the Devonport Regional Gallery's 2020 online art program Showing in the Little Gallery until Saturday 13 March 2021... Home Is Where the ‘Art Is is an initiative from the Devonport Regional Gallery that was born out of the pandemic lockdown and restrictions that saw the gallery’s Creative Space shut down and participants confined to their homes. No longer able to meet for creative workshops, the gallery took its art activities online with a different activity posted weekly and participants encouraged to share pictures of their work. Aimed to cater for a wide range of age groups the Home Is Where the ‘Art Is activities were a way of maintaining our creative community via the digital realm, at a time when separation and isolation were a necessity. Participants were encouraged to keep creating and sharing pictures of their work throughout lockdown as the benefits of creating and making are widely known for their positive therapeutic effect and influence on maintaining wellbeing. As the months wore on, free art packs containing materials for each activity were made available to pick up from the gallery when it reopened in July 2020. Art packs were also delivered to the Devonport Community House and the Devonport Library with an aim for inclusivity and access. Home Is Where the ‘Art Is activities were included in the Children’s University Tasmania program allowing participants to continue to fill out their passports and were also posted to the Tasmanian Arts for Wellbeing newsletter publication. Home Is Where the ‘Art Is continues as an online art learning platform for the gallery’s Creative Space. You can register to receive email links to the regular art activities via the website or by signing the registration form: https://www.paranapleartscentre.com.au//public-programs-c/ #devonportregionalgallery #paranapleartscentre #devonportcitycouncil #devonporttas #homeiswheretheartis

04.01.2022 ~EXTENDED~ Terra Incognita: A duck-billed what? Milan Milojevic 2020 Solo Commission... Now showing until 27 March 2021 Main Gallery, Devonport Regional Gallery Terra Incognita: A duck-billed what? is an exhibition of prints and 3 dimensional objects that continues to explore contemporary cultural identity and the complexities of a cross-cultural position. Milojevic is a first-generation Australian of German/Serbian parents, and for four decades he has engaged with the dilemma of growing up and belonging to three countries and finding a space ‘in-between’, an imagined and unknown place constructed from collected stories of a homeland he never witnessed and is based instead upon memory, myth, fiction and fact. The synthesis of fact and fiction play a pivotal role in his practice, content that is informed and inspired by the aesthetics and visual language developed by18th and 19th century engravers and naturalist artists.
