19.01.2022 Manya is a widow and was already feeling isolated and alone, but quarantine restrictions led to hopelessness and depression. She developed a cough and was afraid she might die of COVID-19. Suhanya, one of our Community Health Workers, reached out to Manya, visiting regularly bringing food, personally paying medical bills to investigate the cough, and providing medicine. Now Manya is doing so much better! She has recovered from her cough, but most importantly she has hope and ...a friend! Manya’s story is common in India. Severe depression and isolation have followed the Covid outbreak. Friendship and support are a blessing during these times of struggle. Register today for our live-streamed dinners THIS Saturday. 19.01.2022 Janitta, is one of our Community Health Workers, and does not allow fear of contracting COVID-19 to interfere with her calling. The people in the villages where she works had no information about COVID-19 or anyone providing simple health checks that can save lives. Along with a team of doctors and nurses, she works in 7 villages, providing immunisations for non-communicable diseases. She also helps with antenatal check-ups during lockdown. BP and diabetes checks are part of... her routine work each day. She refers people to the Government Hospital for testing when she finds positive symptoms of COVID-19. She is brave, courageous, and full of compassion, treating people who are overlooked and forgotten with dignity and respect. People in this village receive better healthcare than ever. And, because they trust Janitta, they go to the hospital when needed. This is a huge step for village folk who have never been given a reason to trust government hospitals. Hear more inspirational stories of hope by registering for one of our on-line dinners THIS weekend. 16.01.2022 India has just overtaken Brazil to become the second-worst affected country in terms of coronavirus cases, according to an AFP tally. Many experts, however, say it is not testing enough people and not properly recording many deaths, meaning the real numbers may be much higher.

13.01.2022 Javita is one of our amazing Community Health Workers. Recently she saw 53 patients in just one week! She treated high blood pressure, anaemia, diabetes, and pregnancy check-ups. She also worked alongside Government Health workers raising awareness about COVID-19 and the importance of hygiene. She identifies those who do not have enough to eat and connects them with our food distribution program. Javita is trusted by her community and cares deeply for the villagers she serves. Our upcoming dinners will support the work of Community Health Workers and Jogini Village Leaders seeking to serve their communities, and ending the heinous Jogini practice. www.dfn.org.au/dinners

11.01.2022 "The death of a second Dalit woman in a few days after an alleged gang rape has shocked and angered India." It shocks and angers us too. We long to see these attacks cease, women protected, and dreams restored. Will you stand with us? www.dfn.org.au

05.01.2022 "Rape and sexual violence have been under the spotlight in India since the 2012 Delhi attack, which led to huge protests and changes to the country's rape laws. But there has been no sign of crimes against women and girls abating." So many vulnerable women and girls... we cry with them, we advocate for them, we stand with them. :( https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-54335895
