25.01.2022 An welcome reprieve from reckless Govt policy which would have cemented in floodplain harvesting by corporates and cause ongoing depletion of river flows in northern basin.

25.01.2022 The Basin is big. The Darling-Baaka River is amazing, and unique. An array of tributary rivers from the Paroo in the west around to the Macquarie and Bogan in... the East all contribute flows to the Darling-Baaka in their own season. The northern tributary rivers are fed by summer monsoon rain, while the Macquarie tended to be a winter/spring fed system - providing cool water cleaned by the incredible reed beds of the iconic Macquarie Marshes. This diversity of seasonal flows has meant that there were always flows entering the Darling-Baaka from some river or another. Now there is too much water extracted from the tributary rivers, or diverted from floodplains. Now the Darling-Baaka is dying. See more

24.01.2022 We have just received advice that Walgett Shire Council has switched our town's drinking water source back to the river supply today. There is some river water being held back by the Barwon Weir that the town can pump. Congratulations to the Council's hardworking water team for fixing the pump problem! We look forward to receiving results from water quality tests soon to show improvements in the sodium levels.... For how long can our town source its drinking water from the Barwon and Namoi River? #WaterIsLife #PublicHealth #FloodPlainHarvesting

22.01.2022 Dharriwaa Elders Group congratulates Paresh Patel and his hardworking team on the opening of the new Walgett IGA this morning. DEG Elders Virginia Robinson and Lewis Beale were honoured to open the store, with another Walgett leader - Di Kelly. #foodandwaterforlife

20.01.2022 Statements made today by Dharriwaa Elders Group. "We are devastated re @IPC_NSW approval of #NarrabriGas #CSG. We are deeply worried about project impacts on surface & groundwaters, #biodiversity, air quality & greenhouse gas emissions. We'll join actions to fight this project". "Against overwhelming evidence the @IPC_NSW & NSW Govt. approved this destructive project. We live downstream from the project & will feel & see the effects. Does this mean we will have to leave our ...Country?" "Approval by @IPC for 850 #CSG wells in Pilliga - lots of environmental damage, flames & methane emissions. Many risks to our water. Now is the time for Santos to be honest with us in Walgett & reveal how the project will be rolled out so we know what to REALLY expect." "The NSW Govt is getting greedy for money & they don't care about other people down the river from #NarrabriGas project approved this morning by @IPC . They are not helping the country. They couldn't run a bingo school". Clem Dodd. #ProtectPilliga #NoGas #fundourfuturenotgas

19.01.2022 https://www.theguardian.com//plans-for-the-plains-the-figh This story speaks of the environment only being given teaspoons of water. Irrigators being handed multi million $ assett. No time to despair - there is work to do. Come in to Dharriwaa Elders Group to let us know if you are interested in this issue and want to be invited to our strategy workshops.

15.01.2022 A sighting of gumbulgaban - Ardeotis australis (Australian Bustard) at Dharriwaa (Narran Lakes) yesterday. Would this likely be the same individual we saw 2 weeks ago approx. 10kms away from this location? Or the same one we saw 50kms from this location a few weeks earlier? Or are there suddenly more about north west NSW now? DEG would like to be funded to support breeding and protection of the gumbulgaban where we know it has been so prolific in past years.

15.01.2022 DEG's Speaker Clem Dodd and Elders Councillor Lewis Beale travelled to Narrabri on Friday to support the Gamilaraay action to Protect the Pilliga from the Santos Narrabri Coal Seam Gas Project. They joined Gamilaraay young people and their supporters who were countering the Santos sponsored propaganda event facilitated by NSW Rugby in Narrabri, with messaging about the fears we have for Country and Climate Change from the impacts of this project. They were joined by the Pill...iga Mouse - which is threatened by the project, and courageous, hardy protestors. The events were very well organised. We arrived at the same time as the NSW Police Riot Squad who we presume must have been there to protect us against possible rugby-supporter violence. #NoCSG #WaterIsLife #nonarrabrigas
