25.01.2022 Dear members, please help the word to your peers, colleagues and clients. The Australian Government Department of Health has made an official statement clarify...ing there are currently no national supply shortages of insulin or other diabetes-related products and medicines. Unfortunately, there has been a surge in the number of people stockpiling insulin and other diabetes-related products and medicines. Stockpiling can create local shortages. People get worried and buy more to compensate. This can lead to more local shortages and may mean other people are unable to access medicine and products. We need to come together and support each other. There are no shortages. There is enough for everyone. Together we will get through this with common sense and kindness. Now is the time for us to show how caring and resilient the diabetes community really is. Please help us stop stockpiling by sharing this post. If you do experience any issues please contact the NDSS with details so it can be investigated. You can contact the NDSS on 1800 637 700. 20.01.2022 COVID19 has changed the way people with diabetes need to access their health professionals. Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDE) require the Commonwealth Gove...rnment to urgently approve Medicare reimbursement for phone and online consultations. This is the only way the majority of people with diabetes can access their CDE during the COVID19 restrictions. Show your support by sharing this post and also signing the petition below. It may well save lives. #COVID19 #CDETelehealthNow ://www.change.org/p/health-professionals-urgently-make-telehealth-item-numbers-available-for-credentialled-diabetes-educators/u/26105092?cs_tk=AqD4kgHPBYjuAhj1fl4AAXicyyvNyQEABF8BvI4wMBQIHl-IUefWTZwXoPo%3D&utm_campaign=8acb7d14e0164c58bdd781905292a08c&utm_content=initial_v0_4_0&utm_medium=email&utm_source=petition_update&utm_term=cs See more

16.01.2022 There is no vaccine yet for COVID-19, but people can get vaccinated against the flu. Each year, it is important that people with diabetes get a flu vaccine. Thi...s is because people with diabetes are at a higher risk of serious complications from the flu. But this year, with the threat of COVID-19, having a flu shot is more important than ever. Getting the flu can make people with diabetes more susceptible to other respiratory illnesses like COVID-19. It is also important to reduce the number of people who may get very sick with the flu as this will put a bigger strain on our health system which is already under strain from COVID-19. So contact your GP or other health provider today to get a flu vaccine. The flu vaccine is free for all people with diabetes. Be sure to phone ahead ensure they are registered to provide free vaccines for people with diabetes and to find out about any special arrangements to ensure visits are safe. The vaccine for people aged 65 and over is only available from a GP.
