22.01.2022 Meet Cathy - Credentialed Diabetes Educator @ Diabetes Complete Care. Cathy is an experienced registered nurse and credentialed diabetes educator who brings extensive chronic disease nursing experience and knowledge to the team. She has worked in several areas of health including paediatrics, palliative care and general practice. Cathy has specialized in the area of chronic disease management and completed her Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management in 2012.... Cathy decided to become a Credentialed Diabetes Educator (CDE) because of her interest in chronic disease and at the time there were few private CDEs on the Sunshine Coast, particularly in the hinterland. She felt that people living in rural areas should have ease of access to diabetes education equally with urban areas. She teaches people that diabetes does not mean that you are sick but in fact it can mean a state of health if managed well and therefore should be managed outside of a hospital setting. Something personal - I live in the hinterland and I love my alpacas and peacocks . Something professional I try very hard to apply the same approach to my life that I ask people living with diabetes to adopt. Special interest Type 2 diabetes and helping people live their best lives. See more

16.01.2022 Lets Discuss - The LCHF Way of Life There are many different eating regimes people subscribe to in order to help manage their glucose levels. Those who follow ...the LCHF or Low Carb, High Fat way of living are passionate advocates and are very vocal about the positive impact it has had on both their lives and those they love. Today we wanted to open up the discussion about LCHF which originated in Sweden for those living with T2D - but many believe it is helpful for those living with T1D as well. What have been your personal experiences with this way of living? What would you say to someone interested in trying it? Have you tried it but found it didnt work for you? What other kind of eating plans do people find work? Please note: As we understand subjects of this nature are about personal experiences and can be quite emotive, we therefore ask that - whether you are for or against - comments & responses to those comments are kept respectful. Our community is meant to be a safe place for people to share their personal thoughts - abusive language and personal attacks on other members will not be tolerated.

15.01.2022 There is so much information about Covid 19 and the importance of protecting yourself from being infected. The most important protection is good handwashing technique, coughing or sneezing into a tissue, and then discarding it appropriately, and being aware of the symptoms to watch out for. This in fact should be practised to protect yourself from the common cold or flu anyway! Even though there is no vaccine for Covid-19, people with Diabetes should have the flu vaccine a...nd have a sick day management plan as part of usual diabetes self management. Your Diabetes Educator can help you with documenting your sick day management plan and you should have contact details for your GP or diabetes care team for assistance if you need specific advice. Remember being prepared is paramount. Further information can be found at http://ow.ly/mcB750yMM8x See more

14.01.2022 Diabetes Complete Care - Event - https://mailchi.mp/017d832672aa/diabetes-complete-care-event

14.01.2022 Who would have thought when we were celebrating all the potential and possibilities for 2020 that in March we would be limiting social contact, closing business doors and going into hibernation to protect ourselves and others so that we can survive this year of 2020! A positive note is that innovation in healthcare delivery has been accelerated due to a global health crisis. All the technology that has always been available to us has suddenly become a new innovative way of h...ealthcare delivery. All our information technology experts have been encouraging even begging us to use the technology available, yet suddenly all the lame roadblocks we have placed in the way to avoid progress has suddenly been overcome and miraculously it is the new way forward. What a new way of healthcare a crisis brings! We have put the appropriate infection control practices in place in our clinic to continue face to face consultations, but we have also embraced our new world of healthcare and we are providing telehealth video and telephone consultations too. Book an appointment to see a nurse practitioner or credentialed diabetes educator through our website on the telehealth page at http://ow.ly/MY1B50zgHIg #diabetescompletecare #telehealth #embracing change See more

07.01.2022 TIPS to help you on sick days All people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes should have a Sick Day Management Plan. The current situation with COVID 19 has highlighted the importance of having a personalised sick day plan. Your BGLs may rise with an infection and you may need an increase in your medicatioin or insulin doses during this time. A sick day plan will assist you to make decisions about how to increase your medication or insulin doses safely. Always seek assistance fr...om your Diabetes team, GP or Diabetes Educator if you are unsure of what to do. Please speak with your diabetes educator about your plan. Tip 1 This is not just for people with diabetes, but it is more important for people with diabetes to be vigilant. Diabetes Queensland advise: To help stop the virus spreading everyone should practice good hygiene including washing your hands regularly, using a tissue and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze and avoiding close contact with others. People are strongly encouraged to participate in social distancing behaviours to help minimise the spread of the virus. Tip 2 It is tempting to stop checking your BGLs when you are feeling unwell. However, it is even more important to monitor your BGL when you are unwell so that you can make decisions about your medicines. If you are on insulin, please do not stop your insulin. Please speak to your GP or see your Diabetes Educator to discuss your sick day plan. Tip 3 Some medicines may need to be stopped if you are sick and/or not eating your usual diet. Please speak to your GP urgently if you are unwell and on tablets for diabetes and see your Diabetes Educator for a sick day plan. See more
