25.01.2022 We are very pleased to report that the Victorian State government has informed Hepburn Shire Council that it has awarded a $30,000 grant toward the development of an Aquatics Strategy for the Shire. The Council has allocated an additional $50,000 in the 2020-2021 Council Budget for this strategy development. https://thewombatpost.com.au//funding-boost-for-shire-aqu/

21.01.2022 Natasha Herbert, the Daylesford Olympic Pool was made for you! https://www.theage.com.au//the-ocean-is-saving-me-how-nata

17.01.2022 Yesterday I had a swim at the Bendigo East swimming pool. It was wonderful to be back in the water! It's a long drive from Daylesford just for a swim but worth it for me because I love the water. The pool is a hidden gem: outdoor 50m, 8 lanes. The main pool is open year round but the smaller splash pools are only open in summer months. It's a community-managed pool operated by the East Bendigo Swimming Club. They've installed gas and solar hot water heating and efficient po...ol blankets so to enable year-round operation. The pool was busy mid-afternoon yesterday with two or three swimmers per lane, in line with COVID restrictions, so clearly they have a supportive and active community. I'm passing the word along for two reasons. One is that you might be longing to get back in the pool and the opportunity will outweigh the one hour drive. The other reason is to stimulate discussion about what we might be able to do with the Daylesford pool. If you want more information, check out the website: https://www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/T/bendigo-east-swimming-pool or check their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bendigoeastpool/

08.01.2022 Did you know that there are about 500 local primary school children that face a 75min return bus trip just to attend a school swimming lesson? This limits the number of lessons that can be provided every year and also means an alarming number of our locals kids simply don’t have adequate water safety skills. Please support DIAC & protect our children. Like, follow, share & join.

07.01.2022 Being kind to yourself and others during Covid lockdown isn't always easy. Although we don't have access to an indoor pool at the moment, any regular exercise is proven to reduce anxiety and also improve sleep. Please join DIAC to support the future well being of Daylesford.

06.01.2022 We all know swimming is good for us. Sometimes it’s just the effort in getting to the pool that’s difficult. Imagine a heated pool in Daylesford. Quick dip with kids after school, morning laps, aqua aerobics, just floating on a Sunday arvo. Let’s make it happen!!! Sign up & join DIAC today.

04.01.2022 Wouldn’t it be great to have a local affordable heated hydrotherapy pool? Hydrotherapy is a brilliant treatment for sporting injuries and arthritis. Warm water takes the weight off swollen joints, providing pain relief and improving joint mobility. Join DIAC to get our local pool built. Tap the Sign Up button.

01.01.2022 Members of the DIAC committee met with representatives of Council and the Dept of Sports and Recreation to discuss the processes governing the upcoming Hepburn Shire Aquatic Strategy. Council confirmed a commitment of $80K to be spent on the Aquatic Strategy ($30K from a Sports and Rec grant plus $50K from Council). DIAC has been identified by council as a key stakeholder and will remain close to the consultation process. The Aquatic Strategy is intended to provide a strateg...y to provide guidance to Council and all Shire communities for the next 10 years. DIAC will continue to promote the benefits and virtues of an indoor aquatic facility in Daylesford. Timelines will be determined by Council once consultants are appointed. It is DIAC’s hope that the strategy will be available in the second half of 2021. All interested community members are encouraged to join DIAC to ensure their collective voice is counted in this process
