20.01.2022 PLACES TO TRAVEL IN 2021 Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, AUSTRALIA The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

18.01.2022 Just so I never forget... Easter Saturday, 11th April 2020 Scott Morrison is the Prime Minister of Australia. Steven Marshall is the Premier of South Australia.... Australia has closed its borders to the world. South Australia has closed its borders to the rest of Australia. South Australians cannot travel between regions. Today, domestic airline Virgin Australia, operated just ONE flight, between Melbourne and Sydney. The airport at Coolangatta, normally the gateway to Australia's most popular family holiday destination the Gold Coast, is now closed. For almost three weeks, pubs, cinemas, restaurants, indoor sports have been closed. Concerts, festivals and national sporting competitions like the AFL have been cancelled. Churches are closed. Only 10 people can attend funerals. Only 5 people can attend weddings. The petrol price is less than $1 per litre. Panic buying started in March and means theres no toilet paper, paracetamol, disinfecting supplies or hand sanitiser on the shelves. Pasta, rice, flour, eggs, mince, canned tomatoes have been in limited supply. Supermarkets have restricted some products to one or two per shopper. There are crosses taped on the floors of shops to help distance shoppers (1.5m) from each other. A limited number of people are allowed inside shops at a time so there are lineups outside the doors. More and more non-essential shops and businesses close down each day. Many office workers are now working from home. Many schools are closed and children are schooled at home, online. Easter holidays must be spent at home. All non-essential travel has been banned. $1000 fines are issued for breaking the rules. Police are patrolling the streets and beaches. In NSW Bondi beach has been closed down to prevent crowds of backpackers congregating. Children's playgrounds are closed. We are to 'social distance' from each other. Cruise ship passengers and international and domestic arrivals are forced into 14 day quarantine in 5-star hotels. There is a shortage of masks, gowns and gloves for our front-line health workers. Overseas in New York, Italy, Spain and the UK there is a shortage of ventilators for the critically ill and hard decisions are made. We fear it will come to that here in Australia. Manufacturers, distilleries and other businesses switch their production lines to help make protective face visors, masks, hand sanitiser and PPE. There are contingency plans to open up Arenas for the overflow of Covid-19 patients. Public and private hospitals are united in a never before seen co-operative partnership. Much of the economy has ground to a halt. Hundreds of thousands of Australians have either been stood down, or lost their jobs completely. The government throws money at businesses to try to keep the economy from imploding. Banks allow loans to be frozen for 6 months and politicians issue dire warnings to landlords that they must not evict tenants who struggle to pay their rent. The Australian government has launched a 'Job Keeper' payment of $750 a week per employee, so devastated businesses can retain employees on their books. All the while unprecedented queues outside Centrelink grow, their phone hold times blow-out and the website crashes repeatedly. There is barely anyone on the roads. You see people wearing masks and gloves when they venture outside. Essential key workers have become fearful to go to work. Health workers are afraid to go home to their families in case they bring sickness with them. Nursing homes are in lock-down and visits from loved ones are banned. The elderly and those who are immuno-compromised are told to isolate themselves for their own protection and quarantine at home. This is the impact of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic, declared 11 March, 2020. There are press conferences daily from the state and commonwealth governments, giving updates on new cases and deaths. As at 3:00pm on 11 April 2020, there have been 6,292 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia. There have been 89 new cases since 3:00pm yesterday. Of the 6,292 confirmed cases in Australia, 56 people have died from COVID-19. More than 347,000 tests have been conducted across Australia. Globally 1,677,298 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 101,579 have died. Why, you ask, did I write this status? One day it will show up in my memory feed, and it will be a yearly reminder that life is precious and not to take the things we dearly love for granted. We have so much! Be thankful. Be grateful. Be kind to each other - love one another - support your community. Photography - Daniel Purvis

18.01.2022 Just place a vote! A simple act that helps earn us a share of a $200,000 grant! Given the challenges that COVID has posed for charities, every bit counts. This is NOT a fundraiser or request for monies. Every vote helps bring us a step closer to sharing in a much needed grant.

18.01.2022 Can anyone relate to this????

17.01.2022 We are living in uncertain times with the spread of the COVID-19 virus. From all at DELA, we hope that you are taking care of your health and self isolating if you are vulnerable. As per government guidelines regarding social distancing unfortunately all of our fundraising functions this year have been postponed until further notice. We would like to thank those that have supported us in our fundraising efforts and hope that once we come out the other side you will join us once again! Stay safe and stay healthy.
