20.01.2022 2020 ANZAC Day with the Le Page family this morning - what did you do to commemorate the occasion?
17.01.2022 Camping @ Home Earthhour 2020 Hello Campers, A lot can happen in a few days. Going camping seemed like the most natural thing to do a week ago, to avoid crowds. State premiers are banning border crossings and suggesting we all stay at home. This is the best thing to do at the moment for you and your family to stay safe and help flatten the curve. Earth Hour happens TONIGHT Saturday, 28th March - Celebrate it at home.... Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet. It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 187 countries and territories to raise awareness for energy consumption and effects on the environment. We have been following quite a few people on Instagram who are planning to camp out at home to celebrate the occasion. It might bring some joy to those self-isolating with their families. If you are on Instagram, we recommend checking the following Hashtags for some inspiration. #campingathome #homecamping #earthhour

15.01.2022 Tonight is Earth Hour. Here is a great opportunity to work on your Astronomers Badge> Read your scout handbook and see what you can achieve. Turn off your lights from 8.30pm for an hour and star gaze. Would like to see who can find more than 5 constellations of stars.

09.01.2022 Last night 1st Diamond Creek Scouts, along with scouts from 2nd Eltham and Hazel Glen Venturers, presented a PowerPoint presentation to Nillumbik Mayor Karen Egan. Over the last 18months, we have been taking part in a government funded program called Street2Bay. It is a comprehensive litter audit used to find out what plastics and other rubbish are making their way from far out suburbs like Doreen and into the Port Phillip Bay. We conducted audits every 3 months, looking ...at various sites including public building, sports field, residential, industrial, retail and parkland. The litter was sorted comprehensively into different categories and sent into the Street2Bay coordinator to be entered into a database. What we found in General: Retail was by far the worst for litter. The most common litter found was cigarette butts. Following the youth presentation, they had a discussion with the Mayor about what they could do to minimise the litter in retail spaces. The youth members also asked some really great questions and offered some suggestions to the Mayor. Mayor Egan commended the effort and dedication of the scouts and venturers involved and is going to have another meeting in a few weeks to follow up on the questions and suggestions put forward to her. Well done to the Youth involved, the Street2Bay team, the Baymaster and all leaders who helped with this activity.

02.01.2022 Last night our Joey Scouts met with 1st Eltham Joey Scouts at Eltham North and went for a possum prowl along the bike track, and stopped at the bridge to see if we could see the platypuses. Not sure if it was the water running quickly or the 7 noisy six year olds but no platypuses! Thank you for having me along Ringa and Koala. See you all again really soon! #dcsg #joeyscouts #ScOutandAbout
