24.01.2022 My watercolour art students will be painting Magnolias. @leanne.gillam has very kindly sent two images of Magnolias I painting quite a few years ago. The magnolias were painted from life at Tosari on a full sheet of watercolour paper - it took many days to capture these and the lemony perfume was heavenly. I was setting up the next Ranunculas and Anemones still life and all the Anemones decided to close up for the day. So, maybe call it a day at 3pm! Windsor and Newton have several specific pink watercolours - Opera Rose is spin sugar pink and Permanent Rose is sedate and infinitely ...useful for making exquisite mauves and purples. 08.01.2022 It was all about the magnificent trees in Queens Park, Toowoomba. Plein air painting is a must if you want to improve your painting skills. 07.01.2022 Memories of Tosari in November. For many years we opened our garden in November. Everything was in flower and the perfume was wonderful. Jacaranda and oleander avenues flowered in unison. Cape chestnut trees and silky oaks. Arches and tunnels of honeysuckle and jasmine. Then over 1,000 roses interspersed with salvias of every colour. Huge swathes of Sally Holmes roses, David Austin roses and Peter Frankenfeld were part of my garden room planting schemes (20-30) and other colo...urs were always in groups of five in beds of pink, red, yellow and orange with complimentary salvias. Not an annual anywhere.
