24.01.2022 Thanks Mel at Indigo Shire for making it all a little bit clearer. Looks like going to the movies at the Cinema Centre is out
23.01.2022 Just a few changes for us in #indigoshire #sigh
23.01.2022 We thought it was still important to have community members represented on the grants committee - for transparency, community involvement, local knowledge and accountability. Want to join?
21.01.2022 Here’s the newly elected council From left to right Jenny O'Connor, me, Bernie Gaffney, Sophie Price(with Jack) Larry Goldsworthy, Peter Croucher and Roberta Horne (absent) Thanks for your support and your votes- I’m excited to be re-elected and am looking forward to working collaboratively with the newly elected and last term councillors. Commiserations to some great candidates who stood but weren’t elected. It’s tough to put yourself out there for consideration - to be vulnerable, to be judged - I’m sure we’ll see their names in other leadership roles within the Shire.
20.01.2022 If you’re interested in sustainable development I recommend the recent Sustainable Development Framework Launch https://youtu.be/wN9rSSSPvnc
20.01.2022 At our last council meeting we passed the Local Food Policy outlining the importance of agriculture, horticulture, food producers, networks and food security in our Shire. There’s more work to be done in this area but we have taken the first step. Thankyou to all our Indigo Shire food producers and networks - who have worked tirelessly during CoVid lockdown to get their produce out to the community - even delivering it personally to customers. Congratulations to the community who have gone out of their way to support our local producers. Great work steering committee community members Peter Kenyon, Sue Brunskill, Anna McKinlay, Jade Miles and Jane Roots and staff members Guy Wilkinson and Carlene Lamana. Next step is to include the actions in the next council plan The policy will soon be available on the Indigo Shire webpage.
19.01.2022 Want to register as a local producer on the Mountains to Murray Local Produce Guide or find a local food producer? CoVid lockdown showed us even more, how important it is to support and eat locally produced food.
19.01.2022 Great story about using recycled plastic pellets for concrete mix. - I'm looking forward to hearing more about it!
18.01.2022 Big Shire - diverse landscapes and communities with so much in common #indigoshire #candidatehandbook #localgovernmentelections
18.01.2022 A group of dynamic young people have created Indigo Shire Youth for Climate Action and have approached council with opportunities to engage, collaborate and take action - great initiative!
18.01.2022 Good opportunity to zoom in and interact with Helen Haines MP Federal member for Indi and Jaclyn Symes State Member for Northern Victoria without having to leave your home.
18.01.2022 Happy 64th wedding anniversary to my parents today. This photo was on their 62nd - heading home on the train from Albury. Feeling for our aged community members who can feel time ticking away and have missed family gatherings, milestones and celebrations. Looking forward to catching up soon. xx
17.01.2022 A very clear and precise outline of the council elections voting dates and procedure. Only need to watch until 2.23 - the rest is about Melbourne voting. Democracy in action!
16.01.2022 So my flyers match my kitchen cupboards- I must like yellow?! #indigoshire #councilelections2020 #womeninlocalgovernment
14.01.2022 Wouldn’t it be good to have a farm gate trail in the Indigo Shire? - #indigoshire #farmgate
12.01.2022 Plenty to think about and discuss in this snapshot of gender statistics in Indigo Shire. It’s a short read - take a look. https://www.whealth.com.au//Indigo-Gender-Equity-Snapshot.
11.01.2022 As regional travellers start heading our way, local businesses are going to need a hand to conduct CoVid safe business. Are you eligible for any of these grants?
11.01.2022 Just nominated for another term on Council. It’s a good feeling! I’m proud of the work we’ve done together- community, councillors and staff - looking forward to the next four years if you’ll have me.
09.01.2022 I chose this song for my interview with Indigo FM - sadly they couldn’t use this version. I love singing with the Yackandandah Community Coir and the Vital Voices - something powerful and moving in massed voices- here’s Patti Smith and Choir Choir Choir for your enjoyment. https://youtu.be/y6Wz3i_BYUc
08.01.2022 Here’s the list of candidates as they’ll appear on the ballot sheet - I’m 4th from the bottom - keep your eye out for me!
08.01.2022 An anonymous act of kindness delivered into our letterboxes- so appreciated! Thankyou
07.01.2022 It’s hard working out who to vote for when we can’t have face to face Town Hall meetings. Here I am being interviewed by Joss from Indigo FM - I appreciate the opportunity to answer some important questions (and a few lighter ones - what makes me smile?). Thanks Indigo FM for the interview opportunity and for supporting the democratic process. https://www.podomatic.com//episo/2020-10-06T14_16_04-07_00
07.01.2022 Interesting article in the BM from Wodonga Historical Society reflecting the importance of community initiative, generosity and action. Indigo Shire has one of the highest volunteer rates in Vic and many of our events and amenities are a result of their initiative and support. #indigoshire #wodongahistoricalsociety #volunteers #communityinitiative
07.01.2022 Waiting in the breakout room for our last mammoth 3.5 hour Council meeting for this term. We didn’t look quite so perky at 10pm.
06.01.2022 Please support and encourage youth involvement in this new group. The future is theirs - we need their input and leadership.
05.01.2022 I'm passionate about sustainable development and planning and am pleased that Indigo Shire Council has joined the 18 month Sustainable Subdivisions Framework Trial. "The Creation of a subdivision is the creation of a community. Subdivision design commences with a relatively blank canvas, setting up the life of the community that will extend over hundreds of years. The initial subdivision design presents an enormous opportunity to create the fundamental conditions for a sustainable and resilient community." Take a look at the framework here https://www.casbe.org.au/what-we-/sustainable-subdivisions/
04.01.2022 Lovely tribute to country living in Chiltern during CoVid
04.01.2022 Money available for youth projects "there will be a particular focus on employment, mental health, transportation, and the impacts of COVID-19 and the Australian Bushfires" The projects must support young people aged 15-24, not be commercial and should conclude by June 18, 2021.
03.01.2022 We need diverse voices around the decision making table but it's hard to put yourself forward when you're in a minority.
02.01.2022 Here’s an opportunity to have your say about tackling climate change in the Nth-East.
