25.01.2022 Feels like a lifetime ago but ... remember this? Perth Festival’s 2020 Highway to Hell. More than 150,000 people attended the event which rocked it down Canning Highway. Last night they won Best cultural, arts or music event in Australia. This is what can happen when you get behind our incredibly talented creative arts sector and fund them properly to thrive. Congratulations to the champions behind the event @iaingrandage @nathanbennett @perthfestival @tourismwa

23.01.2022 When a crane is required to place decorations - you know you’ve nailed it. Christmas is around the corner. Very excited about the expansion of the Christmas Lights Trail this year - approved by Council last Tuesday night - it is the most magical time to be in the city.

23.01.2022 Never before has there been so much money sitting in the Perth Parking Fund - yet our City is struggling economically and staring down a $17m budget deficit. This unfair levy, which is only paid by owners of parking bays in the City of Perth, must either be spent on what it was intended for (CAT Buses and CBD transport needs) or returned to ratepayers. Today's budget shows that the Perth Parking Licensing Account has ballooned to a history-breaking $153 million. There's an ex...pectation that the State will collect a further $59 million next year and $60 million following year. Clearly the State is collecting more money than it needs - so why isn't it giving Perth ratepayers a break? This money could be used immediately to expand the free CAT bus service to UWA, develop a coherent City cycle route (no dead-ends), a comprehensive walking plan and a significant improvement to public transport. If elected Lord Mayor, I will fight to ensure every dollar in that account is audited and reported publicly to Perth ratepayers. 21.01.2022 After nearly three years with @activateperth it’s with a huge amount of reluctance that I’m stepping away from the board. But in the interests of good governance it is the appropriate thing to do now I’m on Council. A huge thank you to @johncareyperth for randomly reaching out to me in 2017 and asking if I was interested in getting involved in a positive, doing organisation. Thank you to my fellow board members, especially my deputy @rachaelcochrane for getting behind the cause and to Ragen (@felicitousthings ) and Kylie @mskyliejtaylor for your hard work. Thank you to our sponsors for your unwavering support. Thanks to @poynton.john for empowering me to pursue my passions.

19.01.2022 Our City of Perth businesses are incredible - I've been lucky to get to know so many over this campaign journey. Small businesses deserve a Lord Mayor that has commercial acumen, understands best-practice governance and will respond to the needs of our business community. If elected Lord Mayor, I will work with City of Perth businesses and the new Council to: Introduce one hour of free parking across Perth, as well as free on-street parking after 6pm and on weekends Fight... to axe the parking levy or, at the very least, ensure transparency around how the money is spent Establish a business-led red tape reduction committee to troubleshoot the many roadblocks to progress and encourage redevelopments, laneway activations and art installations Cut excessive costs, review rates and demonstrate fiscal responsibility Read my full plan to for Perth here: www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

18.01.2022 The Petroleum Club of Perth is looking to change its name to better reflect the evolution of the energy sector and the impact of climate change. If elected Lord Mayor I want to ensure the City of Perth is at the leading edge of energy shifts and responding to climate change. We need bolder carbon reduction targets and can be trialling local battery storage, installing solar-powered streetlights and adopting aggressive renewable energy targets. In December 2019 the Commissioners committed to buying green power (renewable energy) for 25% of its electricity consumption for a three year term commencing 1 January 2020. In the interests of the hearts and lungs of residents and ratepayers of Perth we should strive to do better. Read my full plan for Perth here: https://www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

18.01.2022 The other day Lord Mayor Zempilas asked me for a fun fact - something that not many other people know. I forgot about this one - John’s grandfather JJ Poynton was the Lord Mayor of Perth in 1935. If anyone out there remembers his tenure - I’d love to meet you. His painting is hanging on the wall at Council House.

17.01.2022 "Living as a family in East Perth, I'll be voting for Di Bain for Perth Lord Mayor. With more residents, and specifically families, moving into the City, safety and security are important issues. I want to feel safe when I walk down my street, visit the local shops, or send my child to school. Di Bain is the candidate I trust to improve safety on our streets. She wants better amenities for residents, more street lights, more City of Perth security guards, and a coordinated ef...fort to support WA Police. Di doesn't just talk the talk. As a Commissioner of Tourism WA and Chair of Activate Perth, I believe she will take a measured, strategic and long term approach to improving our City. I'm voting for Di Bain to make our City safer." - Carolyn Hamilton, East Perth If you want safer streets and a Lord Mayor with the right credentials to deliver, make a plan to fill out your ballot, vote Di Bain, and pop it in your nearest post box! If you can't get to a post box this week, you can return your voting papers to the ballot box at Council House during work hours or come along on Saturday, 17 October to return your ballot on election day.

16.01.2022 I've been hearing it everywhere I go: one of the biggest issues facing our City is the growing number of rough sleepers presenting on our streets. As a community, we must do more to support those in need. As a City, we also need to support businesses and residents that are impacted by homelessness. Addressing homelessness will take an unrelenting and diligent effort.... If you want to take action to address homelessness, the most important thing you can do is to elect a full-time Lord Mayor with a comprehensive plan to tackle this responsibility. Make a plan to return your ballot! And read my practical plan to address homelessness here: www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

16.01.2022 East Perth is home to the City of Perth’s biggest residential population. Whether you’re a new family, long-term resident or local business, you deserve a safer community, better services and to be consulted over any new developments or events proposed for East Perth. I have a plan for each of the unique neighbourhoods that make up our City. To restore trust and integrity to the Council, the next Lord Mayor needs to engage with each of our neighbourhoods and work with the com...munity to find lasting solutions to local challenges. My plan for East Perth forms part of my full plan for Perth, which includes: Restoring trust, transparency and integrity A practical plan to address homelessness Activating our City for the future Pump priming tourism, culture & the arts A cleaner, greener and safer Perth Take a look at my plan for Perth here: www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

15.01.2022 Where would we be without volunteers? Thank you to my solid group of friends who’ve been the backbone of my campaign. Perth is full of passionate people who care about their city and its future. Ballots have been issued and there’s one week to get them in. It’s now over to you the residents and ratepayers - inform yourselves and choose wisely!

14.01.2022 Skyworks 2021 CANCELLED The health advice said no. Might be an opportunity for something new (my personal opinion) read the release https://bit.ly/36wSsNp Cath Coeur

13.01.2022 Door knocking in my hood - Nedlands/Crawley. When I got involved with Activate Perth we championed the idea of Perth as a city of neighbourhoods. Like NYC which has its own distinct Burroughs - Perth has its own precincts with different needs and amenity requirements. It was a concept which was proposed at the 2017 Perth City Summit. Nedlands is a distinctly unique neighbourhood which should share in the city-wide benefits of a free CAT bus. Residents also want parking to be ...easier for when friends & relatives visit, better and more lighting (particularly in laneways) and some are concerned about the rezoning of their properties. All issues I will be privileged to address if elected your Lord Mayor. Voting closes 6pm this Saturday. You’ll need to walk your ballot into Council House as Australia Post can’t guarantee it will get there on time. I’ll be at Council House this Saturday if you’d like to discuss my plan for Perth. Otherwise visit www.dibain.com.au See more

11.01.2022 Perth is a City of neighbourhoods, each with unique characteristics and challenges. The residents and businesses of Crawley and Nedlands have so much to offer the City of Perth and I have a plan to ensure you receive the standard of ratepayer service you deserve. Let me know what you think of my local policies for Nedlands and Crawley. You can also take a look at my full plan for Perth here: www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

11.01.2022 A unanimous decision last night by all your Councillors at the @cityofperth to establish a diversity and inclusion advisory group. Up to 15 representatives can join. This committee will help to create a policy framework to be delivered by July 2021. If you’ve got some great ideas - get involved!!

11.01.2022 The heart-wrenching grief of a young family was on display on the steps of Parliament House tonight. The death of their 11 year old daughter and the calls for changes to bail laws should not go unnoticed. #annalieseslaw

11.01.2022 First agenda briefing complete watch this space! Lots coming up at your brand new city council ... including a consideration for free three hour parking on weekends @basil_zempilas

11.01.2022 My vision for Perth is to create a City with soul, where our artists and performers are empowered to lead a reimagination of Perth's brand. I want our City’s identity played out by artists on our streets! Perth's creative arts industry is one of our greatest strengths and the City of Perth can do so much more to help local artists thrive. I have a comprehensive plan to pump prime tourism, culture and the arts in our City. The City needs to support our artists through this cri...sis and there's no better time to prepare our City for future tourists when borders can reopen. Read my full plan for Perth here: www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

10.01.2022 Residents are the future of our City. More residents in the heart of our City means more demand for local amenities, busier and safer streets, and more foot-traffic for local businesses. The next Lord Mayor needs to make it easier for people to visit the City and easier for businesses to activate their property and the spaces around them. Increasing our residential population will take a long-term plan. It won't happen overnight, but if we start the process now, we will creat...e vibrant residential communities and support local businesses to thrive. 09.01.2022 One in five offices in Perth are empty. It's a sad truth that Perth has lost its unique selling point and its lucrative parking business has caused a huge amount of brand damage. I want to re-prioritise our city's budget to ensure ratepayers are getting value for their money. Under my leadership our artists and performers will lead a re-imagination of Perth’s brand. I want our city’s identity played out on our streets. Inspired by the success of the Fringe and Perth Festivals..., I will support a year-round program of events to give our city soul. If elected Lord Mayor this weekend I pledge to: Negotiate with the State Government and neighbouring councils to develop a new funding model for Skyworks that frees up $2 million each year for other events. Revamp and re-prioritise City funding to underwrite street performance and activation on the streets of Perth to a world-class scale. Think New Orleans. Establish The Lord Mayor’s Ministry for Sound & Sight which will pull together peak arts and music experts to curate our performance and musical calendar. Find out more about my plan at https://www.dibain.com.au/plan-for-perth

07.01.2022 A concerning number of eligible voters haven't received their ballot papers in the mail. After years of dysfunction, every enrolled City of Perth voter should have their voice heard to elect a new Lord Mayor that will restore trust and integrity to our City. If you haven't received your ballot yet, let me know at [email protected] and I'll work with you and the City to get replacement voting papers.

06.01.2022 Is it a bird? Is it a plane??? No... it’s a bird. A swan. A cygnet in fact. The latest public art addition to the city in the new pedestrian zone on the corner of Hay Street and Pier Street in the east end. Now two things: 1. Just in case you were planning on coming to the launch of the new pedestrian zone tomorrow eve it’s been postponed until Nov 20. (Due weather) 2. The Community meeting being held by your brand new Council will be at the Town Hall between 10:30 & 11:30am TOMORROW (Friday the 13th). Come and say hi if you can. Wear black maybe . I’m sure we’ll schedule future meetings at alternative times. #inclusive #accountable #committed

04.01.2022 Christmas is coming!!! Such a lovely ad from John Lewis if you want to be inspired.
