23.01.2022 Fast Track Assessments The NSW Government’s new Planning System Acceleration Programme announced the first 24 projects to undergo the fast-tracked assessment process on 28 April 2020. It is one of several responses to keep the economy moving in the challenging COVID-19 pandemic environment. Projects must meet three essential criteria:... Does the project create jobs during construction and ongoing? Can decision on the project be made quickly? Can the project commence within six months, if DA approval is received or if a planning proposal is successful? Can the project strongly deliver or support public benefits? The process does not only work for ‘big projects’ such as State Significant Developments and Infrastructure projects, major projects, and planning proposals, but for any project that fits the above criteria. Dickson Rothschild are actively working on accessing the Planning System Acceleration Programme for a number of clients including in Hurstville and on the Central Coast, and for projects ranging from $20m to $200m in construction build. If you want to discuss your project, please contact our Urban Planning team on 02 8540 8720. #projectmanagement #construction #projectmanager #developments #infrastructureprojects #urbanplanning #projects

22.01.2022 Brick Lane construction complete Set amongst the edgy urban street setting of Inner West Sydney, Brick Lane is hard to miss. Its design is conscious of the creative, work-live character of the neighbourhood and it is built on sustainably-minded feature. An asset that includes cafes, bars and retail spaces amongst the landscaped open space, celebrating the best of our harbour city. The legible connection from east to west provides an opportunity for Sydneysiders and tourists to take a looping walk across the Harbour Bridge, over or under the Cah...ill Express to finish in either the Royal Botanic Gardens or at the foot of the Sydney Opera House. 13.01.2022 Reclaiming the space for the people Reclaiming roads from cars and giving them back to the public is the key theme for this big Public Spaces Competition idea. By removing two lanes of vehicles from the Cahill Expressway, a major new pedestrian and cycle link are created allowing cyclists to avoid the treacherous ride amongst traffic through the CBD and instead offers a leisurely ride overlooking Sydney’s picturesque harbour. The wide pedestrian way will add around 4,0...00 m2 of new public space to Sydney. 07.01.2022 Sydney from a new perspective Dickson Rothschild and Millers Point community members Anne Warr and John McInerney, prepared this entry to the Public Space Ideas Competition. The Cahill Expressway is currently devoted to giving cars a spectacular journey across Circular Quay and is largely undesirable for pedestrians. The pop-up high-line creates a temporary dedicated cycleway alongside the current pedestrian path. It is part of a 4-stage vision to transform the Cahill Expre...ssway into a dynamic pedestrian and cycleway, joining together the best of Sydney’s public spaces and giving a new dimension to the harbour city. #urbandesign #designcompetition, #circularquay, #highline, #dicksonrothschild, #urbandesign, #cahillexpressway
05.01.2022 Successfully Challenging Planning Controls Hill Thalis Architects designed this attractive alterations and additions to an existing shop and residence in Randwick. Our Associate, Urban Planning Phillip Bull provided the planning support resulting in a consent in 2018 for improvements to the ground floor space and two apartments in an R2 low Density Residential zone. 03.01.2022 Congratulations on a successful Marsden Park subdivision approval Congratulations to the project team for a newly consented neighbourhood subdivision in Sydney’s north west growth centre. The subdivision comprises of 80+ much needed residential lots with a wide range of lot sizes to achieve housing diversity large lot detached housing coupled with environmental conservation land, small lot detached housing and attached housing. The masterplan achieves a relatively compact ...urban form within a low-density zone while managing an important environmental conservation area very near a growing town centre and planned metro rail station. Infrastructure development has been carefully considered with temporary and permanent solutions so authorities can finalise their road widening and drainage upgrades without relying on the subdivision and visa versa. The proposal was fast-tracked through the Land and Environment Court with the full court hearing being adjourned to a S34 hearing when the experts resolved all contentions just days prior to the hearing, resulting in a speedy consent that arrived prior to developer contributions being increased dramatically from 1 July. Dickson Rothschild were the Urban Designers and Planners for the project. #consentsuccess, #subdivisionapprovals, #planningapproval, #lowdensity, #courtsuccess, #urbandesign, #planning
03.01.2022 Complying Development Planning Advice As the planner for this 2-storey warehouse and commercial building, designed by Akin Atelier Architects in Rosebery, Dickson Rothschild was instrumental in gaining approval without need for a development application. Rather approval was coordinated via a Complying Development Certificate in about three months from the first design through to release of the application to commence construction.
