13.01.2022 With the hot weather upon us, one of the common risks emerging is that we become dehydrated. Being dehydrated is a risk to our overall health and places pressure on our organs, including our kidneys. Furthermore, hydration is important for bowel function and appetite control. Those particularly at risk of dehydration are people who perspire more heavily be it from working outdoors, exercising or just being a heavy perspirer. The standard approach for working out how much flu...id we require is to multiply our body weight by 0.025L/day to 0.035L/day. (If you are on a fluid restricition, then that overrides this equation). So if you weigh 100kg, then 100Kg x 0.025L/day to 0.035L/day = 2.5L to 3.5L per day is the recommended fluid intake. A further check is to look at the colour of your urine. If it is clear to straw coloured then you are likely to be hydrated. If it is yellow or a darker colour then you are probably dehydrated. If you haven't urinated for a while then there is also a significant chance you are dehydrated.
