12.01.2022 We unfortunately see a lot of clients with existing exposed aggregate concrete that is cracking, popping, fading, stained etc. With the correct installation this disappointment can be avoided. Cracking is usually a sign of no reinforcement steel being used or reinforcement steel that has been used incorrectly. If your concreter is not using bar chairs to raise the steel to properly reinforce the concrete then you should be asking why?! Bar chairs help position the steel in t...he concrete, they lift the steel off the ground to a particular height which then allows the steel to provide the proper reinforcement and stability it is designed for. Pitting and inconsistent finishes are mostly caused by incorrect washing methods, this part of the process is very important when wanting to achieve an attractive, consistent finish. Fading and staining is usually caused when the finished exposed concrete is not sealed properly. Applying the correct concrete sealer blocks the pores in the concrete, it helps to protect from weather, dirt and stains and provides a more vibrant finish, ultimately extending the life of your concrete. Pigments are added to the concrete during the batch process and are UV stable, non-fading and weather resistant. Coloured concrete is also easy to clean, keeping maintenance costs low.
